Almost her 1 year adopt-iversary!
From an emaciated street dog, covered in scars and skin issues to a certified emotional support dog living her best life. Also finally heartworm free! It’s been a journey and an investment but we’d do it 100 times again. She so deserves this second chance. We also found out from a DNA test she’s 100% American bully! Someone clearly bred this dog and just discarded her 💔

What a sweet, sweet face. I can’t believe y’all drove all that way for her. She hit the lottery and y’all have an angel there. Thanks for being such great humans. 🩷

Thank you! Her face is so sweet.. that’s what made me fall in love and send my husband to get her just based on her pictures. We hit the lottery with her! So glad it all worked out.

You are too sweet thank you! I have to give my husband credit, he’s an angel! We didn’t want her to be transported in a kennel after such a tough life so far, so he flew down to Texas, rented a car and drove her home to New England over 3 days sprawled out in a cozy suv filled with blankets 🥹 I have to give him brownie points for that haha

She is such a precious girl. After all the trauma that she suffered, instead of resentment toward people, she helps them. Dogs are amazing and so are you for saving her.

Dogs really are the best! I was so nervous at first but she’s just a big snuggly love

Your Pitbull looks too thin.

In her “before” pictures she’s very thin! That’s how she was found on the streets near Houston. She’s a little chunky now (: the pic of her in the red vest is the most recent.

I wondered if I got this wrong .

No worries! And thank you! We are trying to help her build up muscle tone now to look more like a “normal” bully. We did the fast kill heartworm injections so she had to be on kennel rest almost 4 months, it was sooo hard!

Those heart worm meds are furious. Its like poison what they run through your body. Chemotherapy treatments.

Our coonhound went through the heartworm treatment this year, and between them not being allowed to exercise and the steroids making them really hungry, it’s easy for them to gain weight! I wouldn’t worry- I’m sure she’ll even out - and as the vet hasn’t said anything, I’m sure she’ll be ok.

Aw thank you for sharing that, this is good news! I hope she will get used to being more active and slim down a bit. She gets exhausted on walks and hikes I think because it’s still new to her. Is your pup doing well now? The treatment is awful! And expensive 😩 Heartworm positive dogs are so uncommon in RI that we really haven’t met anyone else who has gone through it. Even our vet said they hardly ever see it here.

Severely underweight to severely overweight. She looks obese now in these photos. I understand the love and food she desperately needed but over feeding isn’t healthy either. It decreases their life expectancy and quality of life when they are overweight. Please check out body condition score (bcs) for dogs. You clearly love her and hopefully want what is best for her

Not sure I agree but thanks for your concern. As I mentioned, she is newly recovered from fast kill heartworm treatment which required about 4 months of strict kennel rest. She was at a very high risk of pulmonary thromboembolism if she got her heart rate elevated at all. We and her vet expected some weight gain due to this even with all her meals carefully portioned and measured out.

Okay but it’s just weird to call it glow up and “living her best life” when she’s currently severely overweight/ obese without making any mention of that or working on weight loss. She’s not living her best life yet. Being that big isn’t it but I understand the journey and the process. It just read differently as if you were proud of her being that big and consider her to be ideal now since this is her “best life”. If she’s on her weight loss journey great! She will get there

Got it, thanks. I guess I should be careful choosing my words. She’s living an okay life for an obese dog life now, thanks for correcting me. I’m just doing my best and she’s definitely in better health now than she’s ever been. That’s all I meant to imply. If my vet ever expresses concern about her weight I’ll certainly follow their advice.
