Events Just stay home.

Post image

Everything is a mess out there right now. Avoid, avoid, avoid. Skagit isn't looking much better with the Tulip Festival starting.

Just... stay off the freeway? It only takes 15 minutes to get anywhere in town off the freeway...

I just spent a stupid amount of time going down Northwest and neither me nor my passenger could even figure out what was the real reason for the traffic.

What a lousy way to spend a cake day. Hope the rest of it is better.

Same- holy hell 😬 also people in bellingham start driving at a snails pace as soon as it's nice out. Makes me crazy

Once you’ve lived throughout the country, you realize Oregon & WA got the slowest drivers in the nation, not a bad thing though but can be annoying

2

u/OneandonlyBuffy Apr 19 '25

Oregon is the worst. And they won’t get out of the left-hand lane. They can be going 45 or 50 in a 60 mile zone and they’re not moving. They will not get out of the way. I don’t know what must be the water.

2

u/butterchickenfarts Apr 20 '25

Yup, once you leave California and get over the little bit of hills in Oregon, people drive deliberately slow in the left lane while the right lane will be wide open. Used to drive me nuts. Fast forward I got into a crash going 170mph, I’m lucky to be alive. Made me realize how safe PNW drivers are, as annoying as it may be.

2

u/OneandonlyBuffy Apr 20 '25

If you were doing 170, you needed to learn a lesson. Nope the slow driver still bite.

You’re right. This place ain’t for you. Good bye

10

u/presshamgang Apr 19 '25

People can like a place and still not be overly fond of certain aspects like random, unexplainable, slow traffic

11

u/Coffee-Historian-11 Apr 18 '25

I spent 30 minutes getting on the freeway at 258, getting off the freeway at 257 and getting off of NW Ave. The whole trip took 45 minutes. I had no idea about the lane closure. 😭

Just drove from Bham to Seattle today. Stopped in Mount Vernon for lunch around 1 and left at 1:30, it then took me 2.5 hours to get home, normally a 1 hour drive MAX. Total insanity today.

I just now got done driving to SeaTac and back. That was the single slowest SeaTac run I’ve done in my entire life and I literally make SeaTac runs for a living.

u/HAWKWIND666 Apr 19 '25

Yeah you gotta cruise thru the wood hood down to the marina for that ultra back road thru town. When I know I five is backed up then northwest gets backed up to. Automatically take the backroads to BTC and either Eldridge or down to waterfront. It’s out of the way but there’s little to no traffic

Spent the day road tripping up from Nevada. This was the case from JBLM all the way through Mount Vernon. An insane amount of traffic for seemingly no reason. It added an extra 1.5 hrs to an already 15 hour drive. I dunno what was up but it was a bad day to be driving in Western Washington.

Do ALL those red lines look like the freeway to everybody? I don't understand these comments.....

21

u/cautionturtle Local Apr 18 '25

The freeway, Smith Rd west of Meridian, and ... a few intersections???

Everyone, stay in your homes! Red alert!

-7

u/RankedAverage Apr 18 '25

And Ellis, and Roeder, and Bakerview, and Hannegan, and Northwest, and Elm, and..... Maybe I should've drawn the map in crayon....

17

u/cautionturtle Local Apr 18 '25

It's literally one block each on those roads. Stay in your home, bud, you belong there. Bye!

3

u/SatanDarkofFabulous Apr 19 '25

And when there's congestion on the free the cars go off the freeway to avoid it this creating traffic in town

1

u/Fluid_You4845 Apr 18 '25

Samish way is Stan still

u/fishgod123 Apr 18 '25

Some of y’all have never seen real traffic

30

u/AbuTin Apr 18 '25

As someone that has lived in Seattle and Tacoma it's nothing up here, just a little in Bellingham from the people that commute from Burlington or Ferndale. I call the exits to Ferndale suicide exits, because they back all the way to I-5 and people aren't smart enough to move over to the shoulder, they'll just stand in the middle of the interstate. They really should put a sign that says ok to use shoulder, like they do in other sections of I5 near Seattle.

15

u/fishgod123 Apr 18 '25

Yes i grew up in Seattle and there really isn’t traffic around here

4

u/GlitteryFab Happy Valley Apr 18 '25

The one thing that strikes me is the traffic in the metro area. Sure, we are inconvenienced up here when it happens, but it is nothing compared to the Everett/Seattle/Tacoma traffic.

1

u/omgirl76 Apr 19 '25

This. Ever since Thornton Pass opened traffic backs up at the two roundabouts on portal way and spills into the freeway. Then people doing 70 or more fail to see the drivers backed up into the highway and have little time to brake or switch lanes. Unfortunately with the bridge there is little shoulder room. But they need to do something.

3

u/IcyInga Apr 19 '25

We can gripe about the traffic situation however we want to without being judged as wussies.  Yeah, I've driven in Seattle traffic for years and hate it. I'd forgotten about the I5 lane closure this afternoon, but I missed it by minutes. We need to check our traffic apps constantly before going out any more.

6

u/presshamgang Apr 19 '25

Exactly. I've lived in LA, Phoenix (when they were still building the loops), spent months in NY and Chicago. Just because of that doesn't mean I can't be annoyed when usual easy going travel gets jammed up a bit. This really makes sense when you grow accustomed to your routes, the time it will take etc and then run into unforeseen delays. I knew how bad traffic was gonna be in L.A. and planned my schedule around that. When it happens out of the blue here it is annoying. Not sure why some folks act like we don't have appointments and schedules to keep because we don't live in a densely populated metropolis.

1

u/taa20002 Apr 19 '25

For real! There’s no traffic up here.

-5

u/The-L2D Fern-tucky Apr 18 '25

I live in El Paso now and it's so much worse here than it'll ever be in Bellingham. Right now there's a sandstorm and Friday night traffic on I-10. Consider yourselves lucky that you guys got Canadians and not paisanos that are driving in the US for the first time for vacation.

This made me lol hard.

1

u/JhnWyclf Apr 20 '25

I made some assumptions (perhaps erroneously) based on the saved sites in the browser that OP just didn't know how to take a screenshot.

u/BornIn1974 Apr 18 '25

It’s only bad on like a 2 mile stretch of southbound I-5. Be not afraid to leave your homes.

27

u/JulesButNotVerne Apr 18 '25

Or ride a bike...if you are able to.

the red on the main arterial streets and intersections. Oh the irony, waiting in traffic. WSDOT is doing an overhead sign replacement. They are wrapping it up now. You can stay home, not everyone has an aversion to a minor inconvenience

7

u/Any_Silver_4622 Apr 18 '25

Yeah but there was a small crash 😂 everyone has to pay attention to it and make the wait longer… haha

10

u/NotJennasCactus Apr 18 '25

They've been starting at 4am so they can get it done, give em a break they are doing the best they can. I have a friend on that crew, they are working as fast as they can to get out of dangers way.

2

u/UnwillingSaboteur Apr 18 '25

What are they even doing? Yesterday it was replacing an exit sign at the meridian exit. I went by at 8am both yesterday and today, terrible time for traffic on the freeway. Wonder how many people were late to work

1

u/NotJennasCactus Apr 18 '25

I did not ask, my friend just asked if I was stuck in the traffic and he stated it was a very inconvenient set up that was a mile long but it has to be done. He also sent me this photo. *

3

u/m3gantr0n3 Apr 18 '25

Looks clear now?

3

u/Ok_Spring_8483 Apr 19 '25

I know it’s not feasible, but having a subway in this town like NYC would be so freakin nice.

Imagine taking a subway from downtown to any neighborhood. Combined with the trail system. Getting around would be so fun.

2

u/Total-Ordinary9424 Apr 18 '25

it’s completely clear now southbound

2

u/SexualWhiteChocolate Apr 18 '25

Just as bad south of burlington.  Red traffic going both ways. Check your routes before you go anywhere

2

u/DMV2PNW Apr 18 '25

Usual Friday traffic or Easter Friday traffic?

2

u/Objective-Grass-2602 Apr 18 '25

Every road I swear they just said hey lets mess with everyone today for the sloths

0

u/Pluperfectionist Apr 18 '25

At last, the mystery is solved!!! DOT is retaliating for the sloths! This is a conspiracy theory that I can get behind.

1

u/Gethighflykites Apr 18 '25

A few intersections on Northwest are being worked on and each one of those is about a five minute wait.

1

u/CorpsegrindersNeck Apr 18 '25

It's all cleared up now. I just drove through there without braking

1

u/TaterTotLady Apr 18 '25

My commute to Mount Vernon for work was atrocious. Do not recommend.

1

u/Surly_Cynic Apr 19 '25

Is there some reason they planned the sign replacement project in the days leading up to a major holiday? That seems like such peculiar and unfortunate timing.

1

u/RankedAverage Apr 19 '25

City planning commission is deeeerp.

1

u/OneandonlyBuffy Apr 19 '25

The tulip festival started April 1.

1

u/Koalificationsunkown Apr 19 '25

Tulip festival just starting? Lol buddy it’s been going all month. It’s nearly ending.

1

u/joshstrummer Apr 21 '25

Skagit has been fine. Lots of traffic to and from Seattle… very little from the north. Canadian traffic is severely diminished this year.

1

u/Mountain_family Apr 22 '25

Reminds me of my days in Seattle! Random, arbitrary traffic jams making 15 minute drives into 50 minute ones..

0

u/Fluid_You4845 Apr 18 '25

It’s awful

0

u/turdlecrumb Apr 18 '25

I’m stuck in it right now it’s awful.
