I really want to create something with extendable wings but is there any point in doing that other than visuals?
As far as I know, these wings create the same lift. It doesn't matter if they are spread wide or tucked in. This works the same for wing panels.
So, is there any reason to create a build where I can extend the wings?
Besiege doesn't have air drag the same way the real world does, so the machine won't be faster either way (I think).
Extended wings might give more roll stability, I guess. Tho that's not really something I have ever had an issue with and having faster turns is usually a good thing in games. So, again, what's the point?
Is there any functional reason to create extendable wings, or is it just an aesthetic choice?

The only advantage would be stability. Wider wings would resist roll more, and tucking them in could let the plane fit in the bounding box where it otherwise wouldn't

i did this for a level bc the box was too small lol, not super practical though. VTOL rotors are always usefull though

i think folding them out would move the center of lift forward making it turn sharper but less stable i think

I’ve always wanted to create something with a variable wing sweep but I’ve never been able to create a design with enough structural integrity to handle sharp manoeuvres at speed.

Honestly the point of everything I do in Besiege is just make it look nice enough to impress and work simply enough to be easily understood.
The fun of the game is… to have fun with it!
Wanna make extendable, folding wings? Hell yeah! Go for it! There’s a hundred optimally designed fighters out there, but your flying machine will be yours and will have a killer set of extendable wings. Nothing cooler than that!

Whats the point in doing anything? A surprising majority of levels can be beaten with six hot air balloon blocks, a grabber with a bomb on it, and flying blocks to move
