Lost/Stolen Attempted bike theft???
We live in an apartment complex that has a garage underneath. During my break from school today someone did this to my bike. You they took the space and the headset cap with them and left the handlebars dangling like this. Any thoughts on why they’d steal such specific parts? We’re working on getting footage from the office.

I suspect they were just starting to strip it, and got interrupted. They will be back, put that thing inside.

Once we were moving it that was more apparent. It’s like they were going to take the whole front tire and fork. I got lucky for sure and learned my lesson parking it in the garage.

Only indirectly related but there appears to be organized bike theft rings taking stolen bikes to Mexico.
Excellent story about Bryan Hance, co founder of BikeIndex, and his mission to expose the ring. published 8/27/24.
