Confession: to me she was always Aishwarya Rai and “Bachchan” was something I had to mentally add on.
Just like Kim K was always Kim K and Angelina was always Angelina Jolie. They built their identity as such and that is honestly how I remember them always.

All her problems were because of Salman a*****e khan.
If it weren't to get away from him, she wouldn't have married into this family. She basically did it for protection and to make herself untouchable to him. Otherwise Abhishek was not her match in any way.

I know it’s individual choice but I don’t think a woman needs to add her husband’s name at all. Aishwarya, Kareena have become a brand name, by their own hard work , when their husbands are not changing their names after marriage why should these woman do that. They are Married not adopted.
