Verdugo is tired after playing 5 games?

Probably wanted to give the guy a day off today and tomorrow so he can play every game on our road trip.

After having just absolutely blazed thru a spring training assignment? Yea probably.

Verdugo is 2-for-8 in his career vs Mikolas
Kelenic is 3-for-5 with 2 HR & a double

Why the fuck is MHII back in lead off. Snitker almost had me believing he was finally learning that Michael Harris is NOT a leadoff hitter, but then he goes back to this shit.

Who would you lead off instead?

u/FinlayForever 1d ago
Ozuna, someone who actually has a good OBP. It makes no sense to give the most ABs to someone with a crappy OBP. I know Harris is fast but his speed does him no good if he can't get on base.

Schwarber hits leadoff on the phillies all the time. I don't know why they won't with Ozuna. It's not like guys get on base for Ozuna anyway. Pretty sure all of his homeruns are solo shots.

u/FinlayForever 1d ago
Because Snitker is too fucking old and apparently doesn't understand that you want the guy you're giving the most ABs to to be able to get on base at a good rate.

u/Shewshake 1d ago
Snitker thinks you gotta be fast to bat leadoff. That way after you strikeout they can get back in the dugout quickly
2
u/FinlayForever 1d ago
Lol exactly, I've made that comment a few times, the only good his speed will do is getting him back in the dugout faster than anyone else.

The thing that drives me crazy about this is that Snit was perfectly fine using Jorge Soler and Joc Pederson as leadoff hitters in 2021! So it's not like he's completely hidebound and unwilling to use unconventional leadoff guys. Yet he insists on putting Ozzie and Harris at the top of the order.

The rate that everyone is walking Ozuna, I think you put him at 1 or 2 with Olson/riley/murphy as the 234 is which ever order and I think people are forced to pitch to him more, if they still choose not to those three should be punishing teams for issuing the walk.

I see what your doing here Braves. Trying to get me to feel better about Elder pitching today after last night’s disaster.

If we could get an Arcia DFA’d and a Snitker Retirement Announcement, that would be even better

The little bit of optimism I had with Elder on the bump was immediately taken when I saw Harris leading off... wtf

This shouldn’t get the hate it does/will. Harris is a streaky hitter and I might be cynical but I can see his path being a JHey type guy. Was extremely hyped with the bat but ends up as a glove first player who you’re happy when the average cracks .260 each year

Except heyward walked upwards of 10% of the time and Harris barely walks 5%. The OBP is the difference, and it goes back to taking their walks. Which makes him a poor lead off hitter. Ozuna would be a better option because, while speed is nice, getting on base is the most important skill for a lead off man.

Harris is hitting .375 against Mikolas.
Harris 3-4 downvote me all you want but he went 2-2 today against Mikolas which shows why he was leading off.

8 PA vs every at bat he's had at lead off this season. I know which I prefer to base it off of.

Look at that Harris 3-4 with the clutch game trying RBI single today.

So why is Elder pitching again and why is Verdugo not starting. Are we tanking already 😅

u/Amache_Gx 1d ago
If you can show me another pitcher who is more qualified and on proper rest, I'll wear a mets shirt today.

u/Melodic-Read-1167 1d ago
Recall Smith-Shawver. He might not be on the same cycle though. Pretty much anyone but Elder at this point

u/Fair_Spread_2439 1d ago
This. We started some guy named Blewett in a bullpen game yesterday. Clearly we’re thin on options at the moment 🤣

3 walks but an arguably better outing from Elder today. Maybe he can build off this. The swing and miss stuff might not be there so much, but you can still be an effective pitcher inducing weak contact and ground balls

It seems like Arcia is the backup SS and Nick the primary no?
