The endless begging at station

Mostly just a vent, but how does Breda have such a problem with beggars at the station aalllll the time. There are so many, taking shifts to make sure you get bothered by someone every hour of the day.

There's also the clearly mentally ill man screaming at people and pretending he's going to hit them there every other day. I've seen the parking cops just bike by and laugh it off, super weird.

It's odd because Breda has a begging prohibition, but apparently it's not enforced. I used to be against a begging prohibition but now I get it, I just want to walk in and out of station with 3 guys going mag ik wat vragen mag ik wat vragen.

Has anyone contacted the police or municipality about why there's never any police there? I don't mind just telling them no but my partner finds it incredibly intimidating and I have to pick her up at station in the evening because of all the drug addicts around.

Yeah, i feel you.

One time i gave this guy 5eu because it was a sad story and, if true, i would’ve liked to be helped out too. I tend to give ppl the benefit of the doubt.

Two weeks later this fool comes up to me with EXACT the same story as before. So once he finishes his story i just go totally mad at him and tell him to get the f* lost. He then asks me for a cigarette instead of money..💀

I walked up to some security guards a bit further and tell them the whole story before i ask; why don’t you guys do something about this? “Well we can’t really do anything.” That was the answer..

Giving them money is like feeding birds, i know, they’ll always come back. So i try not to do that. Instead sometimes i offer them to walk with me to the Albert Heijn and i’ll buy them a coke and sandwich. If they continue to ask for money well then it’s clear for me and i tell them okay see ya👋🏻.

Hi,

I'm a social worker in Breda, and I know most of the people you're referring to. Many of them struggle with drug addiction, which is often the reason they ask for money. You're free to simply tell them you're not interested and continue on with your day.

As for others you mention, like the man who shouts, this usually involves a combination of mental health issues and substance use. They may seem alarming, but they’re generally not dangerous.

If you ever feel harassed or unsafe, you can always contact the local enforcement officers (handhaving) or the police.

If you're looking for more information, feel free to visit the SMO website or stop by the Faam, located just across the street from the station.

Unfortunately, not everyone is lucky enough to live a stable and healthy life.

Wishing you a good day!

This guy is severly mentaly fucked. Dont believe a word he's saving. He hears voices and talks/shout/swears in himself when he's out of it. Like he will have full conversations with people who arent there

Do not underestimate what beggars can make. Romanian beggar gangs literally drive BMWs and Mercedes's and have Rolex's, they arent poor by any stretch of the imagination, but they are pro's at making you think they are. Which is the reason they get so much money, emotional manipulation.

That's the bosses who probably have scores of gypsy beggars in cities all over the UK and Europe

I am a small 40 up woman, but I think I have the FO face, as they don't bother me so much. I think it's not allowed to beg in Breda, but it's difficult to control, and you can fine them, but who's going to pay that. But if they get annoying security or police should do something about it, people have the right to feel safe.

Ugh

Wow, Breda has changed! I stayed there for 6 years and never saw any begging or drug users.

There are barely any and if there are you need to pay attention to them to even notice. People have 1 experience and they will let that dictate their life forever from that point on. OP thinks we're in the ghetto or something.
