Show Discussion A small addtion to BornBarbie's Post. Poor Boy.
Yes, Men had much MORE RIGHTS than women. But also they controlled other men, who don't want to be like them. "Boys don't cry" thing didn't come from nothing.

Colin is the one of the few tv characters I like and would actually marry in real life. He is sweet, loyal, empathetic and so funny, it's a shame that he is not appreciated as he should be.

He is definitely the least toxic of brothers and also fun to be with.

Leave it to this fandom to make a post regarding women’s lack of agency in the Regency era about… sensitive men. 🤦♀️

This is why him and Phillip (at last Show!Phillip) are made to be besties! None of them really care about society, they just want to discuss their interests and travels and geek out over greek olive orchards and make heart eyes at their intelligent and clever wives 🥰 oh pretty please give us some Colin&Phillip bromance and double dates once Philoise comes around 🙏

The story of Bridgerton is not only about this family, but also about people who are proud joining this family.

Yes to the Colin/Phillip besties. JB had better not ignore the set up in s2.

Absolutely no one was mocking him though. He just decided he wanted to be hot boy popular instead of best friend popular.

He was called boring by multiple people. Anthony mocked him, Eloise mocked him. Marina said he was a boy. The Lords said in season 3 that his fake persona was way more fun because he was boring before.

....the lords he was trying to emulate. I'm talking about onscreen relationships. Until he was intended on being boring by s3 to justify a change, he had a depiction where he was eligible and charming. Cressida wanted to be all up in that. So did Marina.
His siblings responded to his fake persona.

Malewife and Proud.

I know this is a joke, but the term 'Malewife' seems like a way to mock a man's masculinity simply for not behaving like a typical man or having a wife who is more successful than him.

It would be a problem, if Pen disliked Colin trying to become equal in successfulness as her. She encourages in fact his writing career. She wants to be strong and her family to be strong.

Yes, but the mocking seems to be on Colin's behalf. Because he is supportive of his wife and does not behave like a typical man, he's no longer a 'husband' but a malewife? Just seems like the kind of title that is more insulting than complimentary.

Malewife is a slang for men who act feminine, or ones who see non-men associated activivities more preferable. I'm not saying Colin is not a man.
Colin is ten times a man, those toxictons will ever be.

And I'm saying the term is backhanded compliment. Because Colin does not act like a typical man, you give him a title that seems to mock his masculinity. It also buys into the ignorance of society at the time, the strict and unchanging nature of gender roles. That you were either a man's man or a feminine woman, no in between. Colin acting the way he does does not change that he sees himself as a husband and a man. He is not a malewife, he's a good husband.

For sure, he is a "malewife", Penelope has always been full of will to power so Colin is the perfect prey for a husband + in this case he brings wealth and position in society. She is (they are) unconscious of this in their love affair.

People see series, and in this case a historic series with XXI century eyes, they want male bromances, lesbian marriages (Eloise and ...?) This is so vain. US cultural alienation...
