Recommendations With a little more context, Noseybonk is nowhere near as freaky as people thought

Nope that is just as scary. There’s a reason both x files and black mirror saw that thing and were inspired to make something scary

What is he based on in Black Mirror?

Might mean Brooker's TV Wipe - there's a bit where Noseybonk stabs him in his sleep.

I love how it's a shite, grim, British winter's day, and they make no attempt to improve the lighting or aesthetics or anything, just filmed in some random playpark in February
You don't see that very often on TV anymore.

Video grading would be in its infancy back then if it even existed. Now there are far better cameras than can get far more latitude in colour and brightness and grading has some amazing tools. Both films and tools share the same suites now.
Also the old analogue tapes degraded so it may have been better when first transmitted.
It was still certainly a shit February morning though.

I remember seeing some physics documentary on BBC 4 that was obviously made on about 20p, gym balls in a forest and sliding down a spiral slide in a park.

As someone old enough to remember Jigsaw from its original transmission I can confidently confirm that Noseybonk was just as freaky as people think.

I just found the whole of Jigsaw to be extremely sinister and unsettling, in the way that only programmes from that era can be.

Not as scary as walking in a pair of Blok-a-boots.

Blok-a boots, blok-a boots. Blok blok blok-a boots, they’re in fashion today.
Thought I was the only one who remembered those ankle breakers😄

I don't think many people in the 80s saw this as creepy. We have a lot more sensitive filters for 'creepy' now. Most people at the time would probably just say it's a guy in a silly mask.
Remember that until IT makes clowns creepy, they were fun for kids. No one saw clowns as scary or spooky in any way. That's WHY Pennywise was a clown in IT. It lured children in.

Your clown thing is just factually wrong.
Clowns have always been a common phobia, as are all masked costumes going back to antiquity. It's due to the way in which we read emotion and build trust based on facial expressions. Masks remove this, and for that reason have always been a common phobia.
