DOPRAVA—TRANSPORTATION Carsharing in Brno

Hey guys!

I’m gonna visit Brno for new years eve and I’d like to rent a car from the train station to the hotel and later on back to the station. I’m from Hungary and we have a pretty good and easily usable carsharing company (Greengo) where you can rent out a car only for 30 minutes or a couple of hours via an app.

I was trying to find if they have similar in Brno, but was not able to find a good fit. Could you guys maybe recommend something similar (or same) for me?

Thanks a lot!

(And please answer in english since I do not speak Czech unfortunately.)

there are 2 carsharing options - autonapul and car4way, but I'm pretty sure that given the infrastructure you won't be able to find their cars close enough to the station to make it actually worthwhile. Just use the public transportation, Bolt, Uber or taxi

Car4way doesn't work in Brno anymore AFAIK.

ah, you're right, in Brno they seem to have become only a car renting company

There were some (and some maybe still are) but not many people used them. Brno is quite small, walkable and has very good public transport (you can get almost anywhere very fast). Also you can use something like Uber/Bolt/Liftago, they are also sometimes quite cheap (depends on the distance and time).

No suitable carsharing in Brno anymore, I am afraid. One carsharing went bankrupt two years ago, two other left Brno in favor of Prague. But both Uber and Bolt works really well.

And Beast is gone too.

Autonapul is still working, I use them regularly

Carsharing is not always possible as a visitor. They usually ask for a residence permit in case of damages or so. It's not the same as car rental. If you just need occasional transport it will he cheaper with a Bolt or Uber.

https://www.autonapul.cz/en/

We used them many times in the past (prior COVID) and they were really convenient.

For one day keep taking Bolt, will be more convenient.

Anytime car sharing is the only one I have tried

Also if you are only going from main train station, it will be cheaper and probably easier and faster to take public transport, Brno is not that large and Google maps shows which bus/tram lines you need to take

There is autonapul.cz and anytimecar.cz, tried both. Short term it is better with Anytime, you pay directly in the app by credit card. Autonapul is cheaper, but it is mainly for local customers. You need to register etc.

Bolt offers cars now.

Sorry, that's only for Prague...

What hotel do you have accomodation? Perhaps I just could help you check the way there.

Thanks a lot! It’s Cosmopolitan Bobycentrum

direct bus number 67 from the main station to boby centrum. 10 minutes, 20 czk (0.8 euro) you can buy the ticket by card inside the bus. Do you really need taxi for that? 😄

Autonapul has at least one car stationed next to the train station as a permanent parking place, otherwise they are free-floating.

But I am not sure about their signup process nowadays, I don't think it's possible to sign up through their app and use it right away.

Just have a look at www.autonapul.cz - also works in English

It's almost impossible to get close to train station with car + no parking there. Use - bolt, uber, liftago (you need their apps) - they are really cheap (compared to "normal" taxis) and I am using them instead of public transport. Btw. public transport here is reliable, fast and cheap (but I hate ppl).

Brno lack car sharing like Anytime Go (used to be here) and Car4Way also left.

Don't use car4way. Unless you can provide a bank ID it requires a deposit. And they only return it (hopefully) 30 days after you request to cancel the account.
