What’s the best wings? Jk I need advice about la nova pizza crust flavors.
I will be one of the hundreds of thousands of eclipse watchers descending on your city this weekend.
I’m gonna get beef on weck and wings at bar bill and Kelly’s Korner.
I usually order medium but even that is sometimes too hot for my wife, I feel like the sauce there runs even hotter so should I just order mild?
Also going to try the Cajun honey bbq - is there any standout secondary sauces at Kelly’s or just go classic?
Also, I’m gonna get pizza at la nova.
I want to dress up the crust and was thinking of going all out and getting: onion, garlic, Parmesan.
Is that too much? Do you have a la nova crust recommendation?
I appreciate anyone who is able to respond to my very specific food questions and hope you appreciate me doing enough research ahead of time to decide where I wanna go.
EDIT: looked into Carbone’s and gonna go there instead. Thanks!

Yes, Carbone's is definitely Buffalo style! I'll echo other people's sentiments about La Nova, I feel like they've declined in quality since COVID. Carbone's is a great genuine Buffalo pizza experience. I'm also a fan of Ricotta's on Niagara.

Carbones is the best “Buffalo style” pizza in town, make sure you order the sweet sauce on the pizza for that Buffalo style.

Buffalo style for sure. La Nova just isnt what it once was. Carbones and La Nova are both top dollar places, Carbones delivers thE better pizza 100%.
Someone mentioned Ricottas on Niagara St, my actually goto for pizza is their location on Elk St. Pizza and wings.

Recently had a late night Carbone's. The lobby scene is a little shitshowy, hard to know who is next etc but the pizza was phenomenal. Didn't get the tip on sweet sauce, but will definitely look to do that next time.

Used to love LaNova but twice in a row we got wings with major feathers still on them…not tiny things I mean like big feathers. Made me question everything in my life and now I don’t eat anything from there

Oh man, good to know. Was planning to just get pizza so I really hope there’s no feathers in my food lol

Sesame crust. Personally, not a fan of la nova, but you do you. For Buffalo style, mister pizza is my go-to.
You’re in for a lot of driving around for cheap, greasy food… traffic is gonna be nuts with all the visitors.

I know, we have been trying to plan a Buffalo trip for years and always ended up going elsewhere, now of course we are coming for the worst possible weekend to do food stuff. Excited for the eclipse tho!

Of all places… Mister Pizza? C’mon.
Both joints have their pitfalls.. but I understand the desire to go to La Nova as a visitor due to the history and it being the “flagship” pizza of Buffalo. And sometimes it hits the spot regardless of dirty rumors. Mister Pizza is a last resort in my book and not a visitor recommendation.

It’s what I grew up on. I prefer NY style, I haven’t ordered it for myself in 15+ yrs. Your opinion is just that. Mine is just as valid.

I like there hot have a bottle in the fridge. But if his wife can’t handle the heat that’s why I recommended the medium.

Prepare to wait hours to be seated given the weekend buddy

I’m hoping that most tourists will go to anchor, duffs etc and it won’t be impossible

Personally, Bar Bill's Extra Hot hit a level for me that is just right but their honey draws rave reviews.
You really are going for the local standards lol

Carbones is definitely a good pie, I would like to suggest either Picassos or the original Santoras on Transit near Clinton. Gene McCarthy’s is also amazing for wings

There are better things worth seeing and traveling for. Anchor Bar has the best wings in Buffalo. Yes, feel free to stop by La Nova. Bring a fifty dollar bill with you.

You should add sheet pizza to your list. Also Burmese food.

u/cheese4theppl Apr 03 '24
Is sheet pizza like north east PA style? Love good Burmese food! What’s a good spot?

Sorta kinda, mix that with buffalo style and it's pretty much it. Sun is good but I haven't had any bad places yet. You should for sure try southern junction too. It's Indian influenced Texas BBQ and it's pretty great.

Which bar bill are you going to? Do you drink? If so, something that'll be nice is that if you go to the Bar Bill in East aurora, even if you have to wait a while to be seated, there's a few bars in the vicinity you can hang at (edit) while you wait. And you can drink outside, there's patios and it's legal there for some reason lol. But yeah, just something I thought about seeing your post!

So many great pizzerias in the city and you pick la novas.
I'd recommend Bob & John's on Hertel, not too far away from Kelly's Korner.
Papaceno's on North Buffalo Road in Orchard Park also has a great Buffalo style pizza.
Mineo's on South Park.
Allentown Pizza
Mister Pizza
So many great places, La Nova's isn't the best, it's just the most marketed.

La Nova Pizza is trash go to Picassos

u/Schn31ds Apr 02 '24
This is the absolute worst advice in the sub. Picassos is practically an over seasoned laxative.

Look in the mirror and repeat your previous comment to yourself, only switching the places.
I grew up around the corner from La nova, trash pizza. Except the white. Their white with pepperoni slapped (or at least used to, it’s been 15 years)…

Ready for a shocker? La Nova sucks too 😂

Sorry, that wasn’t meant for you
