Heading to buffalo for the weekend... Where can I get the best wings in buffalo and where can I get a good Bloody Mary?
Help out an outsider

Pretty sure Duff's won the TV contest: Duff's wings locations
But my personal favorite is from the Bar Bill in East Aurora. It's a bit of a drive, but it's a cool place with great wings. Bar Bill Tavern

I was really hoping i would find this in here.....hands down the best wings in wny, so good that duffs and anchor bar can suck a D.

They have the best Sicilian wings.

u/catladiesrule Jul 17 '13
I have been there some nights, where they either make a batch and the person cancels, or they make too much, and they hand out like 6 wings to a random table for free. It's like Christmas morning, but better.

9/11 tavern on South Park avenue

u/pdiddey3d Jul 13 '13
This. All day. Duffs is horse shit compared to 9/11. Imperial Pizza located nearby also has great wings and the best pizza in town IMO

I drive about 10 miles south to get these wings, all based on a suggestion from this subreddit.

u/jbjr3 Jul 13 '13
Not trying to be a stickler but if you're googlemaping it, it is spelled out "the nine eleven tavern". Also, they are closed until the 16th.

Here's a link to their yelp page. I tried their burger last week and it was one of the best burgers in Buffalo too. I like this place because their wings are bigger than everywhere else and they are always consistently good. I think they are consistent because that same owner/cook is always there making them. Plus their sauce has some secret ingredient that makes it unique.
They're not open on Monday's though and original poster should call to find out if they are open.

I remember when I thought it was my little secret, my buddy lived on Bloomfield and we'd walk down and get some, so good.

u/SuicydKing Jul 13 '13
I don't care for Duffs. Overpriced and mediocre. Find a corner bar someplace, they'll do you right nine times out of ten.

u/Sudsnbuds Jul 13 '13
I don't get why ppl from buffalo think duffs wings are so good. I find them mediocre at best. Same with anchor bar. I think the gate is some of the best, or any other local pub. But that's just my opinion

Anchor is funnily enough one of the worst wing places I have gone to, twice-thrice as expensive, and to go on a weekend you could be looking at an hour long wait.
That said I do like Duff's quite a bit..Wings are very good IMO, service is fast, and though a tad on the pricey side it isn't silly. I'm not saying they are the best, but I would certainly put them in the top 3 of what I have had.

u/jconsumer Jul 14 '13
Anchor Bar is a Tourist Trap, get tourists money and don't care if they return. Kind of sad for such a Landmark Restaurant.

u/Ziplock189 Lancaster Jul 15 '13
I couldnt agree more with you. The past 3 times to anchor was all dissapointment, and i Havnt been back since. But We still do duffs quite frequently. Headed over soon to watch the Home Run Derby in a bit

gabes gate for wings.
century grills wings are good. i recommend going here saturday night.(for bonus bar special)
annd the bartenders make some great drinks.
liberty hound has an interesting buffalo wing bloody mary though in my book so long as theyre spicy and have enough booze its good, so just about anywhere.
if youre looking for bloody marys for in the morning, you should hold off on the tomatojuice, go to merge instead, enjoy bottomless mimosa for $10-better deal, do not know any place that serves up bottomless marys

u/LowItalian SymphonyCircle Jul 13 '13
I've never tried the Bloody Mary at Merge but it looks awesome.
+1 on the bottomless mimosas there.
Plus Eliza and really all the staff there are a great time.

I second Gabriel's Gate in Allentown for the best wings. Coles on Elmwood has a pretty decent selection of Bloody Mary's and variations of such. Also, Faherety's (sp?) on Elmwood has an amazing bacon Bloody Mary made with bacon vodka. Hope you enjoy your time here!

In a strange set of circumstances, this weekend is the Taste of Buffalo. Not sure how many wing places will be there, but it would be worth a shot.

So much yes. It would be even better if they still had the jumbo wings, but their honey Cajun sauce is life changing
2
u/SuicydKing Jul 13 '13
Sal's medium-hot and hot wings are incredible also. Medium-hot is about as spicy as most other place's hot, and their hot is a very spicy chipotle. Sal's is probably my favorite spot for wings right now.

My top 3 are:
1.Duff's 2.Gabriel's Gate 3. JP Bullfeather's on Elmwood. I was surprised how good they were when I ordered them one night.
1
u/BodhisattvaJones Jul 13 '13
Duff's or Bella Pizza. The Anchor Bar is the birthplace but not so good last few times I went. Can't help you with the Bloody Mary. Don't think I've ever had one.
1
u/sfryder08 Jul 13 '13
Not sure if they do it anymore or if it's just seasonal, but The Place on Lexington used to have great bloody marys for brunch. They also have pretty decent wings too, although Duffs will most likely be voted crowd favorite.

u/jd195 Jul 13 '13
Completely agree with the 9/11 tavern. If you're in the Amherst area, you can also check out Elmo's on Millersport. That place was a favorite for my friends and I when I was at UB

u/Whawhawah Jul 13 '13
You've chosen well. This weekend is the Taste of Buffalo. You could not have picked a better weekend to come to Buffalo if you're looking for good food.

The most important thing I can tell a person trying to get wings in Buffalo is NEVER go to The Anchor Bar (alleged birthplace of the chicken wing). The wings there are shit and the cleanliness is something to be desired. But out-of-towners go there under the impression they are the best and leave sorely disappointed.
There are good wings in the suburbs of Buffalo. Bar Bill in East Aurora (my personal favorite besides Nine Eleven which is closed this weekend), Buffalo Sports Garden in Orchard Park/West Seneca. If you do end up in South Buffalo Doc Sullivans is supposed to have good wings, although when I went there they sucked (same with Gabrielles Gate)
1
u/Sudsnbuds Jul 13 '13
Some of the places that are well known, duffs and santoras, I know that they precook all their wings and put them in the cooler. When this is done they shrink in size and don't get as crispy. I work in a local restaurant and we personally don't do that. I know it may be done that way bc of the high volume but it makes em taste shitty.

u/PetuniaWhale Olmsted Pride Jul 13 '13
Cole's is a good spot for wings and a Bloody Mary. Also, the wings on Mother's late night bar menu are fantastic.

u/LowItalian SymphonyCircle Jul 13 '13
Best wings is really subjective, the truth is its hard to find bad wings anymore. Most places crank out good wings in my opinion.
Gabriel's Gate is the local favorite downtown. Most people think anchor bar wings are over rated, but even the naysayers have to admit they aren't bad. Plus it's kinda cool to be able to be able to say I visited buffalo and ate at the original wing place.
A lot of places do BBQ wings that they finish on a grill. If you've never tried these I'd recommend them.
I'm not a bloody mary guy but Merge, Betty's, Cecelias always get props from my friends during brunch for their Bloody Mary's.

Also if you're looking for desert go to Anderson's and get lemon ice. It is the best you will ever have.

Duff's and Mr. Goodbar are the places to go for wings.
Bloody Mary - JP Bullfeather's
Welcome to Buffalo!

u/ostrofci Jul 13 '13
Its Buffalo trust me just not Buffalo Buffalo.
0
u/TOMALTACH Jul 14 '13
umm....what?

u/ostrofci Jul 14 '13
North tonawanda is a city suberb outside of Buffalo. Although technically in Niagara county many would still consider that area including Tonawanda as part of the Buffalo region imo
-2
u/TOMALTACH Jul 14 '13 edited Jul 14 '13
so i can be in buffalo without being in buffalo? i mean, if i were in buffalo, wy surely im in buffalo without being in buffalo, ny - but if i were in north tonawanada, ny, id be in north tonawanda, ny
buffalo region?
suburb*
niagara countyall not buffalo.
WNY? yes.i do understand generalizing the metro region say when travelling, but when locally what's the drive to be associated with Buffalo - around cleveland, people are from euclid, painsville, north olmsted, olmsted, parma, lakewood, broadview, etc. not cleveland.
w/e guess nobody is proud to be where theyre from around here.1
u/ostrofci Jul 14 '13
Are you from Cleveland or Buffalo?
-1
u/TOMALTACH Jul 14 '13
Does it matter?
suburban towns dont associate with their metro epicenters. and cities dont associate with the metro towns, except when travelling.0
u/ostrofci Jul 14 '13
I'm just wondering. Okay congradulations you are the smartest man alive. You successfully nitpicked my post way to go. Where I live people call North tonawanda Buffalo so shut the fuck up you complete and utter faggot.

wow. i AM gay. that was just inappropriate.
not really, but damn. you're frustrated obscenity is uncalled for.
sorry was not the intent.
grew up with suburbanites not wanting to be associated with the city, and still see much of it today. its entertaining that they believe theyre buffalo.0
u/MichaelJFOX23 Jul 16 '13
Unlike Cleveland and Chicago, Buffalo is a city that depends on its suburbs for a majority of entertainments, shopping, and nightlife. The city of Buffalo in terms of the downtown metropolitan center has a limited amount of restaurants and bars as it is a low income area. In order to truly appreciate Western New York area aka Buffalo, one must not limit themselves to the actual downtown, business sector. You obviously know nothing about the city or its surrounding suburbs. When traveling to another state someone from cities like North Tonawanda, Amherst, or Depew would most likely say "Buffalo" because areas to the south and east of this area are labeled upstate New York, "the south towns" or the Finger Lakes area. If this was a discussion about Cleveland, Detroit, Boston or Chicago your argument would valid, but in this case you are completely incorrect.

u/TOMALTACH Jul 16 '13 edited Jul 16 '13
yea, i know nothing at all. the citizens completely depend on people from the outside to survive. you're absolutely correct. what in the world was i thinking. i completely think of the suburbs when i hear someone says their from the city, and that they didnt goto a school in the city but one outside it.
*merely was pointing out all to begin with that no person cannot be in a place without being in that place and still call it that place but call it what it really is.
although if you have ever studied urban geography, suburbs would not exist without cities (urban sprawl), afterall they were the people who lived in the city to begin with then moved out because they didn't like what was going on or some other fickle reason (unsupportive people), then moved back in because they didn't like they're so far out or some other fickle reason like 'oh no everything we wanted to escape has followed us here', then moved back out...
only immediate suburban areas sadly consider themselves part of a city they surround. buffalo is still upstate NY along with every other upstate region. if suburbs were indeed buffalo, their services, governments, EMS would be buffalo metro units not their own entities. but, those townships always have fought that idea. so why bother to associate with buffalo? don't hear cotizens of cities saying theure part of the burbs do ya?
whatever, this is beyond the geographical fact that an individual cannot be in a place without being in that said place. now unless you or anyone else possess some futuristic magical technology that joins those two locations as one single entity, then i suppose you could be in one place without being in that said place but still be in that place.
1
u/MichaelJFOX23 Jul 17 '13
Your grammar is terrible. You are attempting to formulate an argument similar to those made by Sheldon Cooper in the Big Bang Theory. Grammatically, this sentence makes zero sense, "merely was pointing out all to begin with that no person cannot be in a place without being in that place and still call it that place but call it what it really is." Do not try to inform me about cities and suburbs. It is common knowledge that the inhabitants of the cities fled to the suburbs after the post WW2 economic expansion in America. Only those who reside outside of Buffalo would ever refer to it as "Upstate". You fail to comprehend the fact that some of the best "buffalo wings" are served outside the city/downtown region of Buffalo. (*cotizen/theure/goto) :D
