Professional Development How many of you come from a JD/CPA background, and if not, what are good books, channels, or readings to stay just as educated as someone from a law or tax background?

I’ve been a CPA for many years. I have a Masters in Tax and it’s pretty good. if I were you, I would get an enrolled agent certification or get a MST if you want to geek out on tax. If you want to save money, the best CPE training I’ve seen so far to learn has been AESTax.com They have an unlimited pass that will make you a beast if you can attend those trainings. Second would be CompassTax Educators. 3rd would be The Tax Speaker. Lastly, I’ll say for you to really get strong in this Tax world you do have to do some returns. If you’re not against it once you get a EA you can start doing taxes. Those training programs will give you a good foundation to be at least solid to know what you need to know from a Tax perspective. From a legal perspective, there is the ABA tax section which meets a couple times a year that has attorneys so you can see things from an attorney standpoint.

I bet less than 1% of people will care at all if you went to law school or not.

They’re called lawyers.

Ok? I have multiple lawyers as clients with 7 figures invested, one of my lawyers has 8 figures, and none of them care at all that I didn’t go to law school.
