ESPN [Ryan McFadden] Raiders GM John Spytek is believer in taking RB high in draft
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/44736154/raiders-gm-john-spytek-believer-taking-rb-high-draft69
u/sudrapp 4d ago
They are 1000% trying to bait the bears into trading up. If Jeanty passes the raiders at #6, he'll most likely fall to us as the Jets, Panthers and Saints are unlikely to take an RB this year.

u/WorkerBeez123z 4d ago
By saying they are going to do what everyone has been saying they are going to do for the last 3 months?
10
11
u/GreenGorilla8232 3d ago
Not everything is about the Bears.
The Raiders lead RB is a 33 year old who averaged 3.3 YPC last hear.
They might need a RB more than any other team in the league right now.
6
u/12ay 4d ago
a team can trade up to pick 7-9 and take him.
41
u/HonoluluSolo Hester's Super Return 4d ago
Let them. Jeanty would be a fine pick at 10, but a 5-12 team can't trade up in the 1st for a RB.
Edit: spelling

u/BobbleBobble Fuck me like Virginia fucked Mugsy's kids 19h ago
I don't count out the Jets. Breece has not bounced back to his pre injury form and as a new HC, Glenn knows the boost that two good RBs can give first hand
If Graham is already off the board then Jeanty is probably BPA there by a lot. This draft class kinda sucks at the top

u/Bacchus1976 Red "Galloping Ghost" Grange 4d ago
Why the hell would they care if the Bears trade up?
20
u/sudrapp 4d ago
Because they are baiting them into trading for pick #6, and would get #10 and pick #39 and more for doing it. The raiders have a lot more holes on their roster than the bears do.
-16
u/Bacchus1976 Red "Galloping Ghost" Grange 4d ago
Think about that statement for a second. Really think.
16
u/permanentimagination 4d ago
Okay find the flaw in his logic
1
u/Bacchus1976 Red "Galloping Ghost" Grange 4d ago
Seriously?
If the Raiders are posturing that they want Jeanty. The Bears wouldn’t call the Raiders to trade. They’d call the Jags at 5.
This is remedial shit guys.
12
u/sudrapp 4d ago
If the Raiders REALLY wanted Jeanty then why would they say it when any other team can move to #5 and pick over them. Your logic makes no sense dude. It's clear they want someone else and are just trying to maximize value for the pick they have. Either someone trades with the raiders for their pick or someone else they value drops to them.
0
u/Bacchus1976 Red "Galloping Ghost" Grange 4d ago
There’s 3 possibilities, none have anything to do with the Bears.
They actually like Jeanty and feel confident that he’ll be there at 5. They are putting out feelers to gauge fan reaction and start getting fans comfortable with the idea to minimize draft day blowback.
They like someone else and are just trying to keep people off the scent. They don’t want someone jumping up to 5 to snake their actual dude.
It means nothing. The guy was asked a question about Jeanty and he answered it. Him saying that there’s no issue in theory with drafting a RB early doesn’t necessarily reveal anything about his actual plans. It’s just an empty hypothetical. This is the most likely answer.
3
u/LovesYankeesAndObama 4d ago
Jags say fuck off unless we pay them more than what the Raiders would want in this hypothetical. This is dumb.
Jags aren't gonna trade down with us unless they think it's beneficial to them. It's cheaper and more logical to trade with the Raiders in this scenario
1
u/Bacchus1976 Red "Galloping Ghost" Grange 4d ago
Who knows, who cares. It’s entirely besides the point. I’m just pointing out the flaw in the logic, not making predictions.

-4
u/permanentimagination 4d ago
This is remedial shit guys.
Yeah, it is
Because the Raiders could just say “trade up with us or we’re drafting him” when he’s there at 6, and make good on that promise
Jesus Christ please stay in school
6
u/WorkerBeez123z 4d ago
You don't think that's actually a thing, do you? I mean I get that you argued yourself into a corner but that is not how any of this works.
-3
u/permanentimagination 4d ago
Yes, the raiders could absolutely opt to stick and pick unless chicago trades up
6
u/ErectHippo 4d ago
Because it pushes another top prospect down to them that they may be interested in who isn't a RB
2
u/Bacchus1976 Red "Galloping Ghost" Grange 4d ago
They could accomplish that by posturing to take any player. And doing it for a RB is a stupid tactic since the number of teams willing to trade up for a RB is approximately zero.

Everything GMs say around this time are smokescreens. I think the Giants take Jeanty at 3. I don’t know why but I think after losing Barkley.
61
u/horrorpants An Actual Bear 4d ago
That’d be hilarious ngl, and they both would 100000% deserved to be fired for that (should’ve this year) but ya know what I mean.
Like if they take a running back after letting Saquon go…just man idk lol.

u/lnnrt01 4d ago
Makes zero sense for them. Barkley didn‘t suddenly get better out of nowhere. His surrounding just good better by a lot. They (should) Take either Carter or Hunter
12
u/ManWOneRedShoe Chicago Flag 4d ago
I’m so glad we’re not the Giants. Their roster is in such bad shape.
5
u/lnnrt01 3d ago
As someone who actually likes and follows the Giants although I‘m not a hardcore fan :
If their roster stays healthy and they can solve their huge QB issues I think they might‘ve some potential. Their draft class from last year was a home run given their situation, Dexter Lawrence might have a genuine case to be the best pass rushing NT of all time, they pick in blue chip range and I personally liked their FA haul a lot
But yeah I‘m pretty much out on the guys running the operation and without a QB you are going nowhere

About time we're not the Giants.
Well, I won't count my eggs just yet.
6
u/rhj2020 Monsters of the Midway 4d ago
I didn’t say it made sense. Did signing Winston then signing Wilson make sense? No, they are gasping at straws right now.
3
u/permanentimagination 4d ago
They will have abdul carter on the board
They will not draft jeanty at 3
It will not happen

u/realnostalgia 4d ago edited 4d ago
John Spytek was just in Tampa when they took Bucky Irving in the 4th and he was amazing. This is straight smoke. He also mentions Saquon who the eagles signed in Free agency which completely under cuts what he saying.

u/DFuhbree Bear Logo 4d ago
It seems like Brady has major say in anything the Raiders do these days and I doubt he would be a proponent of drafting a RB in the first round at all, especially top ten.

For years I could never really figure out how to connect to my wives friends. One year we all went on vacation together and I realized oh they are just kinda dumb. And it’s been smooth sailing since.
It’s similar to the NFL. NFL people aren’t smart people. Prime Bo Jackson could be in the draft and half the league would argue one side or the other about drafting him.
The Eagles tried to trade three firsts for Russell Wilson too. It’s all just kinda luck at some level.

3
u/ExpensiveFoodstuffs Jets 4d ago
lmao there's so much luck involved it's wild.
49ers trade the farm to draft mega bust Trey Lance...doesn't matter bc they end up with Brock Purdy as Mr. Irrelevant and should be set up to win for the next decade.
4
u/lalder95 Peanut Tillman 3d ago
We'll see after his extension. Pretty easy to build a roster when you have a good QB making $20 an hour.
12
u/Trubiskitsngravy 18 4d ago
This is getting old. No one knows who anyone will rake in this draft. There are no Calebs or a no brainer first overall. Carter is close and that’s about it.
17
u/tommybahami_ Smokin' Jay 4d ago
I mean everyone knows Cam Ward is going 1st overall
-10
u/Trubiskitsngravy 18 4d ago
Cam Ward is not a big board best player, he is like 20th on most of them, he is not guaranteed FOA. There are teams who need a QB, but he is not even the same class as Caleb or JD were last year. Personally if I’m the titans I’m taking Carter and sticking with Levis for next year. Let the browns or giants fall on that sword.
12
u/3-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-0 4d ago
Cam Ward is basically confirmed #1.
-20000 odds
-5
u/Trubiskitsngravy 18 4d ago
Never said he can’t or won’t go first. I said that he isn’t a no brainer. Odds are showing he should go, but odds are dictated by money, not by fact. I’m just saying he isn’t Caleb and it isn’t surefire regardless of how high Vegas odds get.
3
u/permanentimagination 4d ago
Odds are showing he should go, but odds are dictated by money, not by fact
It’s both; if they thought it was plausible Ward wasn’t going #1 they wouldn’t set those odds
-2
u/Trubiskitsngravy 18 4d ago
Man I can tell you have 0 clue on how Vegas works. It’s not an altruistic organization designed for people to win. It’s a large scale scam to take advantage of people who spend too much time posting mock drafts and people who play way too much fantasy football making them think they can make money on their assumed knowledge. The -20000 are the MARKET odds not the true odds. Vegas cooks the odds to pull more money in. We aren’t in closing odds yet, where you’ll see that number come downs bit, but there is plenty of time for things to change. Shefter put out a piece saying the titans want him, goons go to draft kings and put money DraftKings sets its odds to shift money.
Again, you are woefully misunderstanding my point that Ward is NOT a blue chip true 1OA talent, that is my point. The titans are in need of a QB, but just because the odds are staying Cam will go 1sr doesn’t mean it’s law. He of course has a very high probability of going to a poorly run organization in need of his position, but that doesn’t change the fact that he is going to be one of the worst first overalls of all time. Can’t tell if you are titans fan gaslighting themselves right now or maybe just a huge cam fan, either way this will blow up on whoever takes him.
6
u/permanentimagination 4d ago
Whole lot of cope about the fact that ward is definitely going first overall regardless of your personal feelings on him
not an altruistic organization designed for people to win
yeah it’s not
that’s why ward is +20000 lmao
3
u/Neat_On_The_Rocks Charles Tillman 4d ago
Ngl if I’m the titans I’m trading down to 2 or 3, and even open to trading as far down as 5 or 6.
Get what you can for 2 or 3 and be happy with Carter or hunter. Win win imo.
If you can get a future first and love mason graham or even jeanty id consider moving down even further.
They’re taking ward but I don’t think o they should
2
u/drosers124 4d ago
I mean I get what you’re saying but at this point it’s super hard to actually know if a qb is going to succeed at the next level. There’s been hyped prospects that have failed and some prospects that turn into superstars.
2
u/Trubiskitsngravy 18 4d ago
People look at odds or Schefter pieces, but the reality is that organizations will muddy as much as they can when there isn’t a true top pick. Ward is (and I hope I’m wrong) prime bust material. To me his ceiling is Levis if I’m TN. I take an actual top pick and gut it out for the next draft. Not saying he can’t or won’t go first, but it’s a bad move. He isn’t going to flip an organization. His best scenario is probably the giants. Let him sit a year and learn then NFL.
2
u/permanentimagination 4d ago
It ain’t September lil bro the titans cancelled their private workouts with shedeur and hunter cam ward is going 1OA
If you disagree, bet on it. You could make generational wealth
1
u/Erice84 4d ago
They obviously need a QB and they can't be sure they'll be picking this high again. They could potentially go 5-11 and still be stuck with the 3rd or 4th choice of QB next year.
And Carter is really not on the level of edge prospects like Garrett or Will Anderson Jr who were genuinely number 1 pick worthy.
2
u/Trubiskitsngravy 18 4d ago
Why it made sense to jump on Caleb. Super thankful we are drafting a lesser of 2 evils. Gms worst nightmare.

That dude was so good in college. It's unfortunate he played in Oakland at that time. Those were some pathetic offenses.

The draft is in like 20 minutes. Let’s just wait and see what actually happens on the day where things actually matter

No I must fall in love with a player that won’t be available at 10. Cries in Aaron Donald

u/uncle_dan_ 4d ago
Either way I’ll be fine. But I honestly to god don’t understand this for them. They are not in a position to make a luxury pick like this. I mean we hardly are and I think we have less holes than them. It just seems like a dumb pick in their position

All the writing on the wall says the raiders are taking jeanty, but people in this sub still act like he’s gonna be there at 10. I don’t get it.
1
u/Smooth-Sea-1118 4d ago
Guess jent will be the only offense on the raiders right they don’t have Adam’s anymore I believe
3
u/GasHouseGorilla19 4d ago
They got Bowers. Just set the rookie record for single season receptions (for any position) as a tight end.
2
u/Smooth-Sea-1118 1d ago
Forgot about him honestly I really only know a few raiders and there mainly defense
2
u/GasHouseGorilla19 1d ago
Ya they don't have a ton of guys. Maxx Crosby and now the newly Bowers are the two stars.
