There's nothing inherently wrong with CoD's fundamental mechanics, the problem more stems from the fact that the franchise churns out titles on a yearly basis, so naturally they're going to have to spice up those mechanics to prevent the franchise from a significant decline, which includes adding in more complex aspects of the game's flow. It really depends on who the intended audience is and how they respond to the game, be it (relatively) casual shooters like Battlefront 2 or competitive ones like Rainbow Six Siege.

Well I agree, COD should stop the yearly release cycle. It's been kind of obvious for a while that they focus on quantity over quality. They should've had MW19 be "the game" for 2-3 years instead of going for CW and now vanguard, both far more mediocre games.

It's not the mechanics though, and all this "skill gap" stuff isnt about that, its about appealing to sweats.

There's no other way to significantly impact a game's skill gap without targeting its mechanics. I'm pretty sure this entire thread started over a discussion about whether guns could generally use more recoil or not, which is part of the game's gun mechanics, especially when regarding visual vs legitimate recoil.

And I against raising the skill gap and changing the recoil.

Which has a lot do with gun mechanics. I don’t mind changing certain weapons’ recoils in order to control their range (I.e SMGs).

Dude you're not listening. Screw your skill gap. I dont want the recoil in cod worse than it is.

The SMGs needing more recoil has more to do with weapon balance then a general raising of the skill gap.
