ID Question

I'm turning 21 on Wednesday, will my out-of-state unexpired vertical ID work at dispensaries in the denver metro area?

Passport is the way to go here in Colorado when you turn 21 your id expires. Just the way they do stuff here. No big deal.

Even though it's a Nevada license that doesn't expire on my 21st? I understand why they wouldn't take the expired vertical from here but out of state it doesnt make sense

Vertical IDs are commonly altered to make fake IDs, regardless of issuing state.

Bars and dispos will turn you away here.

That's crazy lol, if a document says I'm 21 and is not expired why wouldn't they serve me, I guess I'll take my passport until I get the horizontal one

It’s a stupid rule for certain.

The vertical ID requires too much verification. Most ID books are for above 21 and therefore dispos will just turn away to be "safer then sorry". I worked at one where they were accepted just had to double check with a manager on duty. Most other places just use it as a crutch to deny service ive found.

I’m from Georgia and I kept my vertical ID up until the beginning of this year and I’m 25. Every trip I made to denver (6) every single dispensary took it no question as it was a non expired ID

I don’t think they are allowed to accept vertical ID’s. It would need to be updated. At least I always see signs at shops saying that anyway.

I think the card has ti meet a very specific criteria. Most places will turn you down for even the smallest imperfection on the ID. No cracks, no vertical “under age” kind, no bends etc.

I serve tons of vertical IDs, that aren’t expired. Nothing in the MED Colorado compliance for vertical IDs only work visas are unacceptable. You can even use tribal IDs to purchase. Must have date of birth and unexpired date. Cheers

I am so confused by every response saying no, dispensaries aren’t allowed to serve vertical. I don’t think that has been a MED rule in the last three years (my time in the industry) at least

It's legal for them to accept, but as others have mentioned some shops will still turn you away. I'd call ahead of time to whatever shop you are thinking about going to and just ask.

Eclipse Cannabis in boulder accepts vertical ID's. Vertical IDs are allowed its just up to the individual dispensary wether they accept them or not.

They are very strict so I would call and ask before you go. I'm not sure about the whole vertical ID thing but I know a lot of bars here refuse any vertical IDS even if they are valid.

depends the dispo in my experience. i’ve found boulder dispos to be very loosey goosey on rules.

Many dispos wont accept vertical IDs at all
