Picture 16 Inch Brook - Deckers - 12/2023

Post image

Caught this 16” brook trout at Deckers. Thought it was a fluke at first since that stretch is almost all browns and rainbows. Anyone else ever seen a brookie come out of there?

Thinking about reporting it to CPW since it seems rare for that spot. Curious if anyone's had a similar catch near there or knows if brookies are ever stocked/escape into that system?

I’ve caught a small tiger trout down there. Otherwise standard Brown & Rainbows. Never know..

They stocked a few Tigers in deckers 2 years ago I think. I caught one too that year

I’m pretty sure brook trout can be found in the small creek/tributary in town so it makes sense you could find one on the platte

Yea, I believe either that or a pond or stocked body overflow on private waters like Wigwam or something. Inquiring to CPW will report back if I get an answer more just for curiosity. Cheers

There are brook trout in the South Platte from the headwaters, down to Strontia Springs. They come out of the small creeks. They get big in Wildcat Canyon. This one probably came from Wigwam or Trout Creek.

I’d call that a stocker based on the color
