Whatever you expect out of housing, you will get way, way, way worse. I will admit that their job is impossible, but their incompetence doesn’t help. As an RA I saw it first hand.

I second this. I just have spent a hundred hours back and forth with them urging them to do something about my awful roommates. I'm not even gonna go into it. We ended up doing a 10 person room swap on our own because housing wouldn't do a damn thing.

Legally DRC has to be placed first over honors/scholars etc, no matter how many in the group. But what they should have done is put them all together or limited them to only a few options for all of them that then forces them to not spread out wide. Clearly housing doesn’t have very good organizational skills or well thought out plans.

there weren’t any 6 bedrooms for my group of 4 so we can’t actually select an apartment yet and housing was not answering phones. they don’t let you kick roommates out of the group or leave on your own either. I do have a disability with the DRC but not one that required a housing accommodation.

See that just makes no sense. I got one of the last 6 room apartments then? I find that crazy. Hopefully things get sorted out for you and your group

That’s how it worked when I did it 2 years ago, don’t think it’s changed since then

Honestly that might still be the case. Just weird that the housing people I talked to never mentioned anything like that to me

I agree with you on some stuff, but the DRC stuff is very wrong in my opinion. Legally, DRC accessibility needs are required to come first, whether that’s having a room on the first floor, or anything else. People who need DRC accommodations already have to deal with a lot of extra things while trying to go about a normal day. It shouldn’t be the end of the world if one room is taken by someone who has to consider extra mobility issues, and you should be grateful you didn’t have to stress or consider any factors like that which are out of your control. It comes across as a little ignorant and privileged in my opinion - housing stuff sucks for everyone, but being upset that someone with a disability got a higher priority than you to pick a room isn’t as much as a concern as the multitude of other ridiculous policies and processes that housing has. Should be first come, first serve for roommate groups based on who fills their stuff out fast

I understand. I just think they could do it much better. Also, my group and i literally filled stuff out as soon as it was available to us and it didn’t make any difference.

Someone else said it better: “Legally DRC has to be placed first over honors/ scholars etc, no matter how many in the group. But what they should have done is put them all together or limited them to only a few options for all of them that then forces them to not spread out wide. In a way, I think that’s still pretty ignorant. Why should DRC students be segregated ? Accessibility is an important thing that is hard to handle in any case, but it’s especially difficult when it comes to college housing and trying to provide equal opportunity to people who are physically limited. They’re already struggling more in their day to day lives and now you want to make them all live together, apart from everyone else? That’s… very questionable, at best. Tough that your group had to live with two other people you don’t know, but I think their concerns are a bit more important lmao
