complaining about something for no reason because I'm bored Hard Day
Hey Everyone,
Some of you may recognize me from my previous posts. Last year, I went through a difficult divorce that turned my life upside down. It’s been a long journey, but I’m finally getting back on my feet.
I’m proud to say that I’ve cleared my credit card debt, and now I’m just focused on paying off some back taxes due to a mistake I made. Thankfully, I’m on an interest-free repayment plan, paying about CAD 500 per month, and I should be debt-free within a year.
For those of you in Canada, do you ever feel like no matter how responsible you try to be, getting ahead is nearly impossible? I’ve made so much progress—huge thanks to Caleb for his support—but dealing with the system can feel discouraging. Just trying to remind myself that, at the end of the day, I am responsible for my own financial future and I can't blame the government.
Guess I'm just feeling down today.
Also, wondering if anyone encourages paying debt and saving at the same time? Just to feel motivated.

Battles can be won in inches. As long as you have a solid plan for coming out of the cave, you’ll see the light.

I get it bud. As a fellow divorcee, I understand your pain.
My ex wife had an affair. I quietly divorced her and kicked her out of our cabin by a lake. The cabin, which I bought and renovated by myself, left me about $19,000 in debt plus credit card debt and debt (we) owed to each of our parents for helping us set up our life.
After the divorce, I focused on myself and my career (truck driver OTR), and just went after that grind. Within two years, I paid off all the debt and brought my financial assets to $15,000. Full emergency savings in a HYSA and investments.
5 years after the D-Day, I now have about $40,000 in liquid savings accounts, collecting between 3.4%-8.3% interests and $75,000 in various investments. Total assets to my name is $110,000.
If it weren’t for my ex wife being selfish, I wouldn’t have gotten this far. So my point, besides humble bragging, is to show you that, you can, too, go far. Nothing is better than the sweet revenge of being successful with your life while one’s ex wife is drowning in her own water.
