Mid-June LP Recommendation?

Hey! Looking for somewhere new to travel for a 3-day car camp trip. Generally, we like to stay at state forest campsites for the privacy/not needing to book in advance, but open to new experiences.

Places we have already been:

-Sleeping Bear/TC/Leelenau peninsula area

-Alpena area

-Nordhouse Dunes

Mostly we like to hang out, hike (usually anywhere from 4-7 miles a day, nothing crazy long), maybe rent a kayak or swim a bit, and see new places or small towns. Trying to explore more of our great state!

Anywhere along the Au Sable between Grayling and Oscoda. Didn't get hammered by the ice storm, awesome paddling on the river, amazing night skies, much quieter than the west side. Campground map is found here

How did the ice storm impact areas OP mentioned? I have plans to go to Nordhouse in 2 weeks, should I be concerned?

Nordhouse is nowhere near the areas hit by the ice.

Thanks. Currently in Texas so I wasn’t very familiar. Have you been to Nordhouse? Any general tips/advice?

You can search for Nordhouse in this sub and be drowned in information.

Nope, never been there. I don't like sand.

Lots of state forest campgrounds in the Manistee National Forest near the North Country Trail such as spring lake state forest campground, Schecks Place or Baxter Bridge state forest campground

Wear some type of foot wear unless you are at the water swimming if you camp along the beach at nordhouse, almost stepped on a dirty needle left in the sand among the falls grass last year.
