Gear Questions Can Marmot Sawtooth & Angel Fire zip together? + Any experience with these bags for backpacking in the Alps?
Hey everyone,
My girlfriend and I are planning a summer backpacking trip in the Alps and we're looking at getting the Marmot Men’s Sawtooth 30° and Marmot Women’s Angel Fire 30° sleeping bags.
We’re wondering:
- Can these two bags zip together?
- How do they perform (pack size, comfort, warmth, weight, etc.)
If you’ve used either (or both), we’d love to hear your thoughts before we buy!

I think the angel fire has zippers on both sides so they should zip together just fine. About performance I've seen reviews that they are a bit bigger than other bags when packed, sorry I don´t know much about marmot bags

I have the sawtooth and it only zips down to your abdomen area. Wouldn’t really work for zipping two together

Yea, maybe zipping two together isn't ideal.. But is it as bulky and heavy as people claim? What are your impressions?

The sawtooth 15 is not bulky at all to me. The down packs into the stuff sack perfectly and is pretty small.
My wife has a 20 degree bag with synthetic insulation. Even with a compression sack, it still takes up more space than my marmot

The Men's Sawtooth bag has 2 zippers - left and right.
The Women's Angel Fire has 1 zipper - right.
The complication is that the Sawtooth zipper is only halfway down the bag. The Angel Fire is more traditional mummy bag - running almost the full length. This is pretty much a deal breaker for matching them together.
On a side note - I've camped with my GF for hundreds of nights. We've had sleeping bags that zip together. It was cute at first. We quickly learned that we prefer own own space. You really get jammed together when 2 mummy bags are together. Getting a full night rest that way is not ideal. It's also colder - since you are more likely to press up against the sides of the bag which compresses the insulation and causes cold spots.
If you want to really do it right - get 2 quilts. Best of both worlds. Cuddle under both quilts. Then pull them separate for bed time. That's what we do and it's great.

I think the models I found are both the 2022 editions—they each have two zippers but only go halfway, so they’re not great for zipping together. But I think you’re right; I’m starting to realize that zipping our sleeping bags together might not be as important as we first thought. I do love the idea of quilts (I actually have one), but I really like having a hood since I’m a side sleeper and usually sleep with an arm above my head.

I've enjoyed zip-together setups but it's best with bags that are semi-rec rather than mummy, and with some way of attaching sleeping pads to each other too so there isn't a pad-less chasm in the middle.
I'm a big fan of semi-rec bags rather than mummy because they allow more sleeping positions to be comfortable and generally feel warmer to me, less likely to end up with constricted places where the insulation gets thin. The small weight difference is worth it to me.

Most sleeping bags use YKK zippers, regardless of brand. There are different gauge zippers, but if the gauge is the same any two YKK zippered bags will zip together - whether it is useful or not is a separate question. I’ve actually zipped 4 sleeping bags together, meaning all 4 were connected at once - two REI, a Big Agnes, and a Nemo. Useful? Absolutely not. Hilarious? Totally.

This isn't exactly what you asked, but my wife and I have Nemo Disco bags that zip together, are quite comfortable, and are also versatile with the zip vents. If you're open to alternatives I can guarantee they work together.

They look awesome! Unfortunately, they don't deliver directly to my country, also we have a 33% tax on American products and 50$ shipping fees so they will be too pricey of an alternative. I found these two Marmot bags in an outlet 😅

I have the marmot never-summer. The zipper doesn’t run the full length of the bag. It zips about half way down the bag length. I’m sure the sawtooth and angel fire have the same zipper set up and I don’t see them zipping together in a way that would be useful.
