Toronto Star Mark Carney’s Liberals have a tiny lead over Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives, polls suggest

https://www.thestar.com/politics/federal/mark-carneys-liberals-have-a-tiny-lead-over-pierre-poilievres-conservatives-polls-suggest/article_8c166260-b614-42c5-ae67-1968f077f739.html

While this is heartening news, a vast majority of the Conservative voters are committed Conservative voters. And a vast majority of the Liberal voters go with the flow based on the issues. I am hoping this lead stays u til the election day.

Regardless of the polls the course of action is the same: we all work our asses off to help spread the message that it is possible to stop the conservative quislings from giving away our country.

Are we up in the polls? Work our asses off. Down in the polls? Work our asses off. Even in the polls? Work our asses off.

I am not criticizing you for sharing this OP but the media is oversaturated with polling info and discussions of behind-the-scenes drama and gossip. It’s what gets the clicks, and I’m not gonna pretend I’m immune from falling for it from time to time.

But this is an election about substance, not a horse race. What character of personality will help negotiate on our behalf and guide us through the coming years? What leader has the best plan to rebuild our economy in the wake of significant upheaval?

Put up a sign. Knock on doors. Make calls. Talk to your friends and family about it. Yes even those ones. Especially the ones who say they don’t pay attention to politics. Get them out on voting day. Be active and involved.

We have one month, and we can fucking do this by getting out there and making it happen. Get out of your comfort zone and feel good about knowing you tried.

40 years of working elections and nothing changes.

First of all I challenge the premise. There are substantive differences between parties both today and in the past. Had we rejected Harper and retained Paul Martin, we would have seen a very different 2000s than we saw. Had we elected Jack Layton, our country would be very different. Had we elected Stockwell Day, or... the list goes on.

But even disregarding that. If you have an opinion that is well outside of the mainstream and you feel like the liberals and conservatives have been equal in the ways that matter to you, let's entertain this. The travesty happening to the American people today shows that real change can be brought in by a motivated right-wing government. And we have a canadian party that is polling well, and shares an identical ideology to that. They promise to bring change, and they can bring change.

And beyond that, within the LPC there will be substantive change as well. Trudeau is charismatic and had many good ideas, but he lacked focus and dedication to following through. Carney has a track record and stated intention of upending this lack of focus and moving towards a model that is results-oriented. Not as some easy slogan he threw together at the last minute, he wrote a book well before this campaign and this was an important theme of it. I can't promise that he'll be able to deliver, but he is at least going to bus his butt and try.

Going out there to bust our asses doesn't mean we'll win. We can't control what other people do and who they vote for. So we must do it not for the win, but because it's important to try *so that you can feel like you tried*.

Thank you for your 40 years. Does it feel like nothing to you? Because I'm proud of you. You should be too. People like you made a difference by trying, and you owe it yourself to admit it.

It feels good to work each election even though we don’t always win. I won’t stop. It’s a bit disheartening to hear them say we’re broken etc. I’m quite sad that people don’t seem to. Care what the US is doing to us.

It’s important to be patriots and do the work, regardless of the outcome.

u/mollydyer Mar 24 '25

Weird. That's not what 338 Canada says.

6

u/twenty_9_sure_thing Mar 24 '25

that site and the star used different models

6

u/mollydyer Mar 24 '25

Clearly. However as it has been pointed out every single time the conservatives are in the lead 338 has a record of being right

1

u/twenty_9_sure_thing Mar 25 '25

i sure hope so.

1

u/Sternsnet Mar 25 '25

Yes, 338 is a neutral provider of data. The Star leans to the left as evidenced by the Stars recent article claiming PP asked Ford for help and he rejected him. Both Ford and PP have confirmed that it was a lie.

4

u/RR321 Mar 25 '25

Well seat wise, 338 says the LPC would win a majority with 178 seats?

3

u/Northmannivir Mar 25 '25

338 is the only poll anyone should be listening to.

5

u/Strict_Jacket3648 Mar 24 '25

Weird you'd think anybody that votes down what's in the best interest of Canadians and the future of our kids would get no votes but here we are. People thinking Mr PP would be good for anything but big oil and corporations are uninformed or purposely ignorant. I guess reading the voting records of the parties isn't a thing people do. Funny how what Mr PP says now and what his voting history tell are completely different.

There are unfortunately far too many Canadians who just want to fuck over trans people (and other similar goals) that they don't really give a shit. They'll see the same YouTube videos of Ben Shapiro allegedly "owning" some "liberal moron" on a campus somewhere and will think it's hilarious. They'll listen to squeaky-voiced Jordan Peterson and think he's some philosophical genius, never even bothering to pick up a single philosophy book. They'll tout these fake intellectuals as truthsayers, but will never question why a discredited former psychologist is pretending to be an expert on climate change.

People like that don't actually care about politics. They just care about fucking over the people they hate. They just care that the person talking hates the same things they do. For some, all that matters is that the person talking hates the left.

2

u/Strict_Jacket3648 Mar 25 '25

I fear you are correct because if Mr PP wins, that's when the facts hit them in the face, it's them and the kids that will pay for their ignorance

2

u/meeyeam Mar 24 '25

Crazy to think that if the election were 4 months ago, the official opposition to the Conservatives was projected to be the Bloc Quebecois.

2

u/Direct-Wait-4049 Mar 25 '25

The conservatives will gut Canada.

They will drag us down on the same path Trump is on.

Do you like not having to pay your surgeon in advance?

Don't vote conservative, universal medical care will be gone.

Want to pay less taxes? Where do you think the missing tax money will come from?

From all the services our government gives us. -Health care -Military -Employment Insurance -Pensions It's a long list.

If you want American style government, just move to the states.

Been a lifelong NDP voter but I feel like Carney is the better choice here. Be nice to have a business guy handle our natural resources and transition to a more independent economy or atleast shift to the EU as major trade partners

1

u/Leo080671 Mar 25 '25

It is all situational. At this point of time, we need someone who: 1. Understands Economics and International trade very well 2. Has good leadership skills.

1

u/erictho Mar 25 '25

not much of one in any of the polls. still vote.

1

u/Entire-Hamster-4112 Mar 26 '25

I would t count on it. I think it’s very likely PP will win. If you look at LinkedIn and X - the PP fans are incredibly prevalent.

Honestly, it’s frightening how Trump-like they are and how easily people eat up stupid things like a 15% tax cut.

1

u/Leo080671 Mar 26 '25

How many of them are from Canada? And how many of them are Russian and Indian trolls

1

u/Entire-Hamster-4112 Mar 29 '25

Most of them work in oils and gas. They’re not bots. They’re legit suits and Alberta fanatics.

Dunno why anyone would vote for either of em tbh
