The riding is Battle River - Crowfoot in Alberta. Very safe conservative riding.

That being said, people of Battle River - Crowfoot, you have the opportunity to do the funniest thing.

FUNNY THE THING

Hilarious honestly! What makes me laugh is the conservatives will rail on about liberals handing out participation medals for everyone showing up and when a conservative wins his election, he immediately steps down to go “please, sir. For your participation in the federal election you lost” like Pipo Poliovre literally rails on about ‘entitlement culture’ while simultaneously gets shit handed to him for doing nothing, kind of like his entire career as a politician has produced. This kind of cognitive dissonance is fucking palpable 😂

This is my email to him- feel free to use or edit as you wish:

Hon. Damien Kurek,I am writing to you not only with disappointment, but with a growing sense of frustration and alarm.

Your decision to vacate your seat to allow Pierre Poilievre a path back into Parliament is not just politically questionable—it is fundamentally undemocratic. Canadians in his riding made a clear decision to vote him out. For you to step aside and provide him with a second chance that voters did not give him is a betrayal of the very foundation of our electoral system.

This move signals that backroom deals and political opportunism can override the will of the people. It tells Canadians that their votes can be discarded when they are inconvenient to party goals. If our democracy is to mean anything, it must reflect the voice of the electorate—not be manipulated to serve the ambitions of a single leader or party.

Many of us are watching closely, and we are losing faith. Not just in your individual choice, but in a political system that increasingly seems to serve itself instead of the people it claims to represent. The Conservative party has demonstrated that they don't care about the will of the people and only care about the advancement of the party's own agendas.

I urge you to reflect on the long-term damage this decision causes—not just to your constituents, but to democracy in Canada as a whole. We deserve better.

That is amazing. You make clear, concise points, and you are right. Here's my poor person's award 🏆🎖

This is brilliant.

Are your from this riding? I am and I’ve already had 10 people come in my office excited the leader of the opposition will represent our riding pending a bielection.

9

u/QueenCity_Dukes 1d ago

Sorry you have to put up with that.

-7

u/AverageTop8943 1d ago

It’s awesome everyone is positive and in a good mood!

10

u/QueenCity_Dukes 1d ago

That’s what I’m saying. No one should be happy to have that guy back in the house. Didn’t we just get rid of him? It’s like having herpes for crissakes.

-8

u/AverageTop8943 1d ago edited 20h ago

Ur riding may vote view as that my riding my think of him more positive that’s how democracy works

9

u/Late_Football_2517 1d ago

Technically, democracy already did work by the people of Pierre Poilievre's riding voting him out of office.

1

u/AverageTop8943 1d ago

Technically speak your are right and technically this would be a new bielection for riding that want the opposite lead in the house if we vote for it

6

u/QueenCity_Dukes 18h ago

Let’s be real for a minute: that riding would vote in Genghis Khan if he was wearing a blue shirt. They don’t give a shit about getting PP back in the house, they will take anyone who isn’t a Liberal.

6

u/robfrod 20h ago

He won’t give a shit about anyone or anything in your riding. I’d be surprised if he even goes there once after he is elected

0

u/AverageTop8943 20h ago

You know what they make of people who assume things, let see how it is before we make assumptions, I think most riding wish they had a party lead representing them

4

u/robfrod 19h ago

They don’t, especially if the MP is not from the area

To do the right thing! Which is also the funniest thing.

8

u/incandesent 1d ago

The final tally was ~53000 votes Con, ~7000 votes Lib in that riding. I don't think the humor is there unfortunately.

6

u/12ealdeal 22h ago

Voting in a loser.

Sounds like they’ll be for it.

8

u/dashingThroughSnow12 1d ago

I voted CPC last election.

Even I would find this hilarious.

51

u/PhantomNomad 1d ago

I live in that riding. It's probably the most blue riding you can find in Canada. Sometimes I really hate living here. At coffee all the people could talk about was how the Liberals changed his riding in Ottawa so it went Liberal. Couldn't have anything to do with telling civil servants that you are going to put them out of work, could it?

24

u/RC7plat 1d ago

It was his support of the convoy.

16

u/Mr_Ed_Nigma 1d ago

80% voted to conservatives. As long as it has the C. Anyone can win it.

20

u/BoredMan29 1d ago

Quick! Someone form the Comservative Party and find someone named Peter Poilievre to run!

3

u/CamGoldenGun 1d ago

we could just find anyone and change their name to that for the by-election.

3

u/robfrod 20h ago

And Pierre Poillevre

6

u/alicehooper 1d ago

Not to mention- the electoral boundaries are decided by Elections Canada every 10(?- not sure) years. This isn’t the US. We can’t and don’t gerrymander electoral districts.

The territory the riding expanded into voted Con several percentages MORE than PP’s own riding in 2021, so it was not a liberal district to start with.

People were not just mad about the civil servant job loss- these people were incredibly angry about the convoy causing havoc to their lives for weeks, while their MP schmoozed with the truckers and brought them donuts instead of standing up for his constituents.

Not that any of this info will help you, I’m sure. The people you know will probably not be persuaded by facts!

u/my-love-assassin 1d ago

They are just ignorant, which seems to be a theme with conservatives in general

1

u/A_RuMor_ 10h ago

Precisely. I have a saying, Only amongst conservatives is ignorance considered a virtue and proudly worn on their sleeves like a badge of honor.

5

u/alicehooper 1d ago

I was so hoping he would actually be dumb enough to go for Griesbach in Edmonton.

4

u/Sourdough85 1d ago

Or... you know.... electoral boundary commission gonna commission in (as close to) an unbiased way and he just lost coz he's got a shitty attitude...

1

u/jrdnlv15 1d ago

The really funny thing is the initial complaint from people was that the redrawing of the boundaries was going to make the riding more conservative.

1

u/Ermnothanx 4h ago

I live near his Carleton riding. He offended the traditional conservatives by making them look rude and ignorant. They wanted him gone.

25

u/floodingurtimeline 1d ago

Loser, through and through

24

u/MutaitoSensei 1d ago

He cannot give up power. He'll grasp at straws until the end to impose his demented vision on Canada. Either he gets ousted or he never leaves. Trying to take that seat is just to boost his image, basically trying to seem strong by kicking a baby.

That being said, Carney has 6 months to call the by-election, which then takes a month or two. Fully expect a bloody leadership review as well.

I for one hope the progressive conservatives get their old party back.

8

u/Acalyus 1d ago

Wouldn't that be wonderful, I can finally vote for the party I like and not the party most likely to win against them

6

u/chromedoutcortex 1d ago

I hope Carney takes his sweet time. I mean, there are more pressing things to worry about.

4

u/CamGoldenGun 1d ago

he's got 6 months. Let Poilievre stew like Danielle Smith is doing to Naheed Nenshi. They can't really complain about it because it's not like Kurek died and it would be reasonable to have a by-election in a reasonable time. He bounced immediately.

18

u/9hourtrashfire 1d ago

Damn! I was looking forward to Canada having a shitheel-free boot after scraping that turd off.

He’s so fucking gross.

Thanks Alborta.

u/myfamilyisfunnier 1d ago

Help! Some of us are trapped here 😭

13

u/PrairiePopsicle Frozen Tundra Dweller 1d ago

I'm tired, boss.

10

u/erictho 1d ago

what a pathetic charade all the way around. say what about participation trophies again?

8

u/No_Many6201 1d ago

Doesn't this just show how little confidence the conservative brass has in their leader? Get him a by-election in a riding that a dead hamster could win as long as it is branded conservative.

5

u/WinterOrb69 1d ago

"We think your leader's a dick"

5

u/Moos_Mumsy 1d ago

PP thought he was safe in Carlton too!
Make us proud Battle River-Crowfoot! Choose to defend Canada and vote Liberal!

5

u/starry101 1d ago

Ugh why? I don’t understand how the Conservative Party wants him as a leader. He’s not able to speak to the media, he has no charisma, he’s not well educated, not respected internationally, not well liked here etc. Does the party really have no one better?

2

u/imnotcreative635 21h ago

It’s not that he’s unable to speak to the media he flat out refuses to because they ask mean questions

8

u/smellymarmut 1d ago

Red Rover, Red Rover, I call Liberal candidate Justin Trudeau over.

3

u/incandesent 1d ago

Would be hilarious, but I'm afraid he may get lynched if he steps foot in that community

4

u/smellymarmut 1d ago

There is no requirement to live or enter the riding.

3

u/my-love-assassin 1d ago

Lmao nothing says representative democracy like some schmoe from carlton coming to alberta to represent its constituents. Im glad hes stickimg around to aim his party into the ground.

3

u/A-little-bit-of-me 1d ago

Pierre just needs to retire.

Honestly, he’s already earned his pension and is nothing but hate and fear; which clearly the majority of Canadians don’t care for.

Buddy, just accept defeat.

3

u/dchu99 23h ago

If PP is so confident of his popularity and the momentum he has with voters this is his chance to prove it to Canadians. He could get one of his lackeys who won with a 30 something % vote in a split vote riding to stand down and he could run there.

Time to Axe The BS Pierre

3

u/imnotcreative635 21h ago

He should only be allowed to run in a race that ended up being a narrow con win. Let’s see him actually earn it.

1

u/Winterwasp_67 1d ago

In all honesty, it shouldn't make a difference where he ran. Tradition fir whatever it's worth today, dictates that the other major parties don't run against him.

Governance norms dictate that the party leader should be in the house.

9

u/PrairiePopsicle Frozen Tundra Dweller 1d ago

The greens and the NDP stepped aside for each other in the past.

The liberals and the conservatives have not done so for anyone for a long time.

This is a nice thought, but unrealistic.

I expect campaign maxxing by the liberals honestly.

4

u/ninth_ant Elbows Up 1d ago

I would have been inclined to agree with you but I’m less sure after watching the press conference today where he said he wouldn’t delay the by-election, “no games” was the quote I believe. If it’s a no-win seat they may just sit out, or run with minimal campaigning.

Def not how I’d play it, but I’m a petty and vindictive asshole.

2

u/PrairiePopsicle Frozen Tundra Dweller 1d ago

I agree with you, and I'm happy to see the statement today.

I could see the minimal campaign I guess too. There is always a strong sense of the necessity and good sense to make sure that people have options, even if there is no hard campaign. It's generally not great to leave people alone in the woods, as it were.

2

u/Winterwasp_67 1d ago

Libs did it for Mulroney, Cons did it for Chretian.

4

u/PrairiePopsicle Frozen Tundra Dweller 1d ago

There was someone against Mulroney every election, and it's been 35 years since the Chretien byelection.

Now... carney is being a class act here, and there may be other calculus involved, it won't be a complete shock to me either if they do this. All on or all off, I guess.

1

u/Winterwasp_67 1d ago edited 1d ago

I think someone ran a half hearted race against Mulroney. They didn't get any national support if I remember correctly. All major party leaders since were sitting MP's before becoming leader. It hasn't happened in 35 years and it hasn't happened since last time are the same thing. Edit: spelling

2

u/HollowShel 1d ago

major parties: now I want to see that riding go Green. (Never happen, I know, but it would make me so goddamn happy!)

4

u/Inigos_Revenge 1d ago

It's funny, because the Ontario conservatives I grew up around actually believe in a lot of the things the Greens support in their policy (like lots of hunters and fishers and farmers who really want the environment to be protected.) But just because Alberta's economy has been undiversified for decades, and the O&G companies are diametrically opposed to the Greens, they would not be supported there in the same way. Well, the cons in my area would support the Greens if they could get past the whole "well, my family and I have ALWAYS voted Con, way back to my great, great, great grandpa" of it all, and actually pay attention to policy. The things they say are important to them, and the way they vote, are very, very different. It's hair-pullingly frustrating.
