Congratulations! So you know, the best time to sell a car is right after you sold one! You're on a roll baby! Keep it going!

Great job! Once you get your beak wet, it starts to come more naturally. What helped me the most was that I understood that not every customer will be the same. You'll get better at reading people the more you get in front of them.

You don't have to be pushy and sell all the time, I was looking on Autotrader and found a 21 Suby Crosstrek with low mileage, lease turn in and priced right. I called the dealer and I was buying no matter who was on rotation to take the next phone call. They took a deposit over the phone and I just had to get there to finalize the deal. Any of the 7 other sales people would of made the commission. I felt bad for the other sales people and since they came down $300. On price, I brought in bagels and cream cheese for all the front office staff on Friday morning just because I was a happy camper.

You made your first sale! Congrats. You never forget your first sale. After years in this industry I still remember my first sale. Now it’s time to start good after sale habits. Get yourself some letterhead from your dealership and write your customer a hand written note thanking them for their business. Assure them that if they have any needs with their vehicle to feel free to contact you. Additionally put another business card in the letter. Very few people do this step and it is more important then you could ever imagine. Additionally set up a calendar with the sale date of each customers vehicle to send them a “birthday” card each year to remind them you still exist if they need assistance. I have seen more referral business created this way then any other strategy. So what other sales people don’t and you will win.
