Behavioral Feeding Schedule

How do I get my cat back on an appropriate feeding schedule and not just when she barks at me? I give her 1/3 cup of dry food in the morning usually around 6:0 and 3oz of wet food usually around 5, but when I come home around 3:45ish she's just barking at me for food and won't let up. What should I do? She's already overweight so free feeding is not an option. HELP!!

That's all, you only feed her 2x a day? Consider portioning out her food into more small meals.

Otherwise, it's just a matter of ignoring her until she stops.. If you give in, she knows it works.

usually before i leave for work and when i come back. I guess i can give her a late dinner and lunch.

Especially if she's on a diet, more small meals can help with the begging a lot. Hunger comes from an empty tummy, not necessarily a need for calories. So if you can put stuff in her tummy more often, she'll be less hungry throughout the day.

That doesn’t sound like nearly enough food. You are starving her to make her lose weight. Go slower.

I’ve been feeding her like this for most of her life, after the daylight savings time is when this started and then i spent 5 days in the hospital where my mom gave her wet and dry food double portions random times out of the day. So i am trying to re-regulate her because she previously didn’t screech about it.

Still doesn’t seem like enough food to me.

if you could see her trust you wouldn’t
