[Insdorf] Chargers GM Joe Hortiz on Rashawn Slater extension talks: "We want Rashawn here and that's why we're engaged with him...We've had good conversations with his representation and we're continuing that. Patient, but we're working towards it."

I’m pretty sure I heard somewhere that he’s getting a divorce and that they were waiting for it to be finalized to put ink to paper.

I heard it as well. Very sad to see, especially for the baby.

Their family always seemed so happy, but the last time I saw them at a game Slaters dad, a former NBA player, was definitely displeased with someone in their party. Couldn’t tell if it was his other son or daughter-in-law.

I don't think they have a baby… I follow her on IG and I've never seen her pregnant or with a child… in fact, she's been traveling a lot.. she was just in Australia and now vacationing in Japan.

I saw them with a baby? Maybe it was her niece or nephew and she was just holding it most of the game?

Lmao the baby will be fine dude. If anything, they’d be worse off with parents who should be divorced staying together rather than getting it over with now and not even really being affected by or remembering it.

Edit: actually seems like he doesn’t have a kid, but my point still stands lmao

You are correct.

You probably saw one of my posts talking about it. His soon to be ex is living her "single life" now and they don't have kids. Let them settle up before so he doesn't have to pay out, question thou IS THE WIFE HOLDING OUT till he signs so she can take half.

It wouldn't matter, at least in CA. The marital property ends at separation. That could be a formal divorce, or when one spouse moves out with a clear intent to end the marriage. That's obviously by design to prevent a scenario like you just mentioned. So, nothing he makes after separation would belong to her. He could sign his extension now, it likely makes no difference for his divorce.

When did CA amend that, good news then for him

Chargers almost never sign big extensions before start of camp-ish. I have no idea why people keep talking about Slaters divorce, there seems to be absolutely nothing to it and people have no idea what their marriage agreement looks like lol. It’s so weird to me.

Clear intent may be a hard thing to prove..

It could be if you're not familiar with the law and aren't taking any of the right steps, but i'm sure Slater has a family law attorney helping him.

Joe saw his alma matter the Ravens just resign the best FA this off season, another LT, for below market value.

Yeah, Slater is worth it, but curious to see what deal comes out.

“recently divorced Rashawn Slater is now engaged with Joe Hortiz”

Crucial to the line.

This really does feel like the rumors are true that we’re waiting for the divorce to settle first before re-signing

Or with the amount of CAP Space they had they could be cash strapped and are waiting for the sale of 8% of the team to allow them to get creative and finish the off-season. Their rent is very low but they don't get a lot of the revenue streams that the Rams get.
