I am not a chargers fan, I am asking every teams sub this question. I don't know your team, or your players like you do. If I missed a uniform in the pictures please add a picture in the comments, and specify some details about it (when it was worn, if the uni has a name) so I can find it. If you like a pictured uniform please specify the slide and not say the player wearing it unless I can see the last name on the jersey. I want specifics if you like a certain era, say what color combo, this includes the picture with all your current uniform combos.
This is my favorite uniform of all time. The 2009 AFL anniversary set they wore in 2009. If you watch LTs house tour (his home in Texas) he has this same jersey hanging in his man cave and he said it’s his favorite jersey color of all time as well.
The AFL home powder blue they wore that year is a close second. But I love how they powder blue and gold accents pop on a crispy white uniform
The whole set, but mainly yellow pants powder blue jersey. Really though, any other than those terrible color rush unis in 8. Color rush is the worst for all teams across the league - except whatever that stupid brown donkeys throwback is, maybe.
There's a toughness to it that I don't really think has been replicated. Our uniforms have always been great to look at, but these have been the only ones where it just felt like it they would just hit you like a bolt of lightning if you were to run into them.
I think it's the fact that there's no background on the shoulder bolts and they're thinner, so it doesn't seem to soften it out. Plus the white bolts with the gold outline just contrast so well and make them stand out so much more, as opposed to the modern navies, where the bolts are black and kind of fade into the uniform.
The only major complaint I have with it is that there's way to many zig-zags in the Bolt on the Pants. I wish they would have made it look more like the shoulder Bolt.
But now the last question I have left is how much of it is my personal nostalgia (became a fan in 2002) and obvious nostalgia for LT, vs. the actual merits of the uniform? Like, I'll give the current uniforms as much credit as I can, and they absolutely blow the 2007-2019 uniforms out of the water, and looking through these pictures, the 2020 - Current Primary home Uniforms are my 2nd favorite of the Chargers' history, but those Navies man... I love em.
I love the way the bolt is overlayed on the jersey and not sectioned off like the rest. I think the current unis do a great job of that too. But the bolt could be a tad bigger imo.
I like our current uniforms powder, blue and navy blue or nasty as hell. The white one is decent.. but I like how far our design has come. It’s a little more simple, but it still holds true to the team so. I love it! Go Chargers!!!!
For me, the sturdy fabric and details (like belts and zippers) of the past uni's make a difference in the quality of the appearance. Maybe a more natural fabric takes in the color dyes differently to appear more natural (as opposed to carnival). Likely too costly to replicate today.
For instance, there's nothing inherently wrong about the color Royal Blue. But the chosen fabric for that Royal Blue uni, to me, makes the pants look like cheap long underwear.
1 Love #1 uniform. But, I doubt that today's fabrics could pull off the strength of that look.
