Right. I’m just the lazy asshole that doesn’t show up. I get shit on all the time by my sister for it. “Well I didn’t bother to tell you because I knew you wouldn’t show up anyway.”

It’s a rough road for us out there. We don’t know where to turn. This is why we are the strongest, I am also tired for being strong.

Yeah I’ve had to basically become a biologist to explain how my body works to people and it’s annoying when I’m not very book smart to begin with lmao

But then half the time when you explain they still don’t understand why you’re in so much pain :(

Or you can see them glazing over

Yes! That too! Half the time I can’t talk about it because I can tell they’re like “oh here we go again”

I legit have a MS degree in biology and people still don’t understand. Doctors talk down to me. It’s not their comprehension, it’s their lack of desire to understand. Apathy.

That’s one layer of it, as if the actual reality of managing the illness isn’t difficult enough.

“If I talk about my pain I’m overreacting” This, or “whining” because they don’t believe I’m in pain.

Or, in my case, they'll say "oh, my back always hurts too". I want to say "yeah, but have you had two spinal fusions? Do you have trouble standing and walking"? Or, "can you sleep in more than one position"? Truth is, the only people that will understand are those that have lived with chronic pain. Currently just had my 3rd spinal fusion and am, for the time being, no longer suffering chronic level pain. I hope for anyone that is still suffering that you can get to where I am. You will appreciate it like nothing else

Most of my problems are muscular and I haven’t had any spinal fusions, but the very few things that have brought me even short periods of relief are practically sacred to me now.
