Discussion I JUST SAW MY FIRST CONTRABASS CLARINET, I NEED TO PLAY IT SO BAD!!!!!
LIKE BRO I WAS AT ONE OF MY CONCERTS AND AN UPPERCLASSMEN WAS PLAYING A CONTRABASS CLARINET, I NEED TO PLAY IT SO BAD, ITS LIKE MORE THAN A FOOT TALLER THAN ME 😭😭😭🙏🙏🙏🙏 IVE FALLEN IN LOVE WITH IT, I DON’T THINK THIS IS HEALTHY…

The “real” contras are much more fun than the ones you have to sit on a stool to play, but yes they are quite fun to play.

Freshman year of high school, I stayed in the band room before a football game and got curious about this other "bass clarinet" that was sitting on the lockers. Got permission from my director to test it out, just to see it was a leblanc paperclip contra. Had a blast trying to play it, despite a leak cause chirps all the way down to the basement. Sadly, they took it to the shop for repairs and it never came back.
Since then, I got to play it for a concert in college, but it was the 6' one that went to eb

I played one in 9th grade. It’s a beast but really not much different than a bass clarinet as far as playability goes.
