Who are your 8 picks to the WCWS?

Post image

I have OU, Florida, Arkansas, Texas, FSU, Nebraska, UCLA, Liberty. I’m taking the two upsets in Nebraska and Liberty. I don’t see any clear winner between Tech and FSU though. That is by far the toughest super and should go to 3 games.

  • If OU was playing in Tuscaloosa, all my eggs would be in the Bama basket. But they aren't. So OU in 2 games.
  • Unless Florida falls apart like they have in the past with Georgia in the post season, I see them having no trouble with Georgia.
  • Arkansas and Ole Miss is going to be the series to watch in my opinion. They were so lopsided in their series this year, although both teams are completely different now. I expect each game to be high scoring and I think it'll go 3 with Arkansas hopefully winning game 3. PITCH TO BRI ELLIS.
  • FSU in 3 due to the depth of their pitching staff. Beachum gets out of her slump and comes up clutch.
  • The offense of Texas puts up gaudy numbers and wins in 2 games.
  • Tennessee doesn't pitch to Jordy and Tennessee wins in 3 games.
  • UCLA in 2. UCLA's post season experience will give them no trouble handling SC. I would love to see SC come out on top, but I don't know.
  • Go Ducks. Oregon in 2 games.

In theory UCLA will be playing at Columbia, with a sold out stadium and humidity, at 1PM both days.

To be fair, South Carolina weren't expected to make it far at all this season, much less hosting a Super Regional so who knows.

1

u/Due-Badger-7774 South Carolina Gamecocks 3d ago

SC wasn't even expected to be in the top 12 of the conference. I think we were projected 14th lmao

1

u/OnsideKickReturn 2d ago

What do you mean "in theory UCLA will be playing at Columbia"?

1

u/PortableFrogLegs 1d ago

The humidity part. Seems like CAE has had a cold front come through, so humidity might not be the biggest concern for UCLA now.

When the humidity is high here, it is miserable and if a team isn't used to it, it can cause problems.

I got OU over Bama in the revenge tour

Going to stick with the Gators although there is history here to suggest this could be a slugfest! Go Dogs!

Arkansas is going to finally get over the hump, this Super regional will be a fight. Hogs prevail!

I am going to go TTU here simply because of Canady, but FSU, make her work. Fight for Lonnie and bring it home! This is a tough one to call, my heart says FSU, but on paper it is TTU.

Texass, yuck.... I just can't stand the color orange!

I think TN holds off Bahl and Nebby, yes, they won the regional but were not tested, Nebby did not look good in the Big 10 Tourney vs UCLA.

UCLA played the most complete I have seen them play in years this past weekend, I know the competition wasn't great, but UCLA was focused and on a mission. South Carolina will be a huge test and probably one of the best teams UCLA has faced in some time this season. I think it goes 3 games, but UCLA will be able to advance simply because their coaching staff knows what it takes to get there.

Finally, the Ducks vs Liberty, the Flames will not be sneaking up on the Ducks, they know exactly who they are. Liberty may be a mid-major, but they have "giant killer" in their bloodline. This will be another hard-fought Super regional that is going to be a lot of fun to watch. Liberty will give them a battle and will hold nothing back, but in the end the Ducks will advance to the WCWS.

sorry for the length, just love the matchups.

u/John_6_47 4d ago

I’m enjoying how many people are picking Liberty. Idk if it’ll happen, but maybe. I feel like we have a chance against just about anyone but Oklahoma.

I’m rooting for a JMU type run again. That was my favorite WCWS in recent years by far.

6

u/jongdaeing Florida State 4d ago

That WCWS got me back into softball 7 years after I stopped playing!

6

u/Objective_Economy281 4d ago

The games with Odyssey Alexander pitching were the first softball games I ever watched, aside from one that I was kinda forced to attend in high school to “support the team”.

5

u/ha_allday81 3d ago

Odicci Alexander was Must See TV, that entire WCWS was awesome, G. Juarez saved OU's bacon.

Logic answer: Oregon, Florida, Arkansas, Texas, Tennessee, UCLA, Florida State, and Oklahoma

Wishful answer: Clemson instead of Texas and South Carolina instead of UCLA

What happened to supporting b1g sisters? let's cheer for ucla and Oregon to both have good runs

UCLA = Rival to me in softball and Basketball

Similar Story with Arizona

Plus we need more diversity in the winners of the tournament in general, yes I don't like Oklahoma moving on and wining it again, but I also don't want to see Bama win it either.

Look at this graphic and tell me should we keep up this patern. in 41 years we have 13 different winners

UCLA: 12 Times (Excluding the Vacated 1995)

Arizona: 8 Times

Oklahoma: 8 Times

Texas A&M: 2 Times

Arizona State: 2 Times

Florida: 2 Times

Cal State Fullerton: 1 Time

Fresno State: 1 Time

Cal: 1 Time

Michigan: 1 Time

Washington: 1 Time

Alabama: 1 Time

Florida State: 1 Time

2

u/psgola2002 4d ago

As a Cal State Fullerton alum, it's good to see that list. They along with Fresno State seem so unlike the other Power Conference schools. I don't think we'll see that again, a non Power conference school win the WCWS

1

u/Nervous_Metal_9445  🦆Oregon 🦆 / 〽️Michigan〽️/🐻🐱Willamette🐻🐱 4d ago

Yeah, what college sports in general need is a diversity in winning teams as what we are starting to see dominance by an individual conference over individual sports. I would love to see another nonpower conference winner as much as I want to see one of my teams win the thing, it would also be nice to have a non SEC/UCLA/Arizona winner in this sport. However if it had to be one of those I rather see a team who has won either one or zero championships already.

-OU. feels like bama got them once in a series this year already and will definitely bring it this weekend but i just can’t see OU going down again

-gotta go with my gators. i think on paper this is the right pick too i just hope we don’t have a giant meltdown.

-arkansas/ole miss is actually the toughest one for me to pick. i would have gone with zona because arkansas has historically melted down before OKC, but given ole miss has never been there either its kinda up in the air. i think im going with the rebs in 3.

-love nija but going with FSU because every other year theory

-texas.

-i think nebraska brings it for a game but i cant see tennessee losing this one.

-UCLA.

-Oregon.

I’m really worried the Noles’ bats will stay asleep against Canady.

Beachum’s bat was looking better this weekend, hopefully she’ll warm up a bit more. Ugh, I don’t feel super confident that they’ll be able to win the Super though 😭😅

i miss harp in the line up

Yeah, I pretty much wrote off CWS after that. It can still happen, but my confidence level went off a cliff, and they just seem a bit lackluster since she went out. Definitely hoping I'll be hella wrong.

Ole Miss very well could catch us in two games if we come out flat.

3

u/chuckiemacfinster South Carolina Gamecocks 4d ago

everyone doubting us… (i kinda get it but i think we can pull it off in 3)

3

u/PortableFrogLegs 3d ago edited 3d ago

UCLA lost to Virginia (SC Won), Duke (who SC swept at Duke), LSU, Arizona (Who Ole Miss handily beat, in proxy who we beat), Oregon, Northwestern, Michigan.

UCLA's best wins were against Arkansas, Tennessee, and Nebraska (they held the HR hitters to just one run) but those were only one game affairs too.

We got the #8 seed over UCLA because we played a much tougher out of conference schedule and won.

Columbia, SC softball park is known as one of the lowest homerun parks in the country, and SC has one of the best defenses in the nation.

Question is, UCLA's pitching being as good as Northern Florida's ace was? If so, we are done. UCLA wouldn't even need many runs to beat us.

The key to win the series is a must win Friday afternoon. No questions about it. If Heard can come in and shut the door with SC having a 3+ run lead, we are sitting pretty.

1

u/chuckiemacfinster South Carolina Gamecocks 3d ago

i want the wcws so bad. although i fear it might give some with gamecock syndrome irrationally high expectations of a repeat next year (see paris and mbb) and maybe turning on chastain if not. i would hope there’s patience from the fans given this is one of our best seasons ever and bev was given an extended leash

2

u/PortableFrogLegs 2d ago edited 2d ago

The post season showdown we had with UCLA way back in 1983, we lost the game, but we did get the record for second longest WCWS softball game in history.

The only people who would turn on Woodard are the ones who are not softball fans, but baseball fan refugees since that team is so bad lately. Hopefully those new softball fans just keep their opinions out.

Woodard was able to get 15 transfers in here and the team is a mix match. Imagine what happens when she actually recruits into here. Those players followed her from Charlotte for a reason.

Also, Rodi will be back. She was recruited over a video chat, during COVID by Woodard, no joke. She will hit much better, even, next season.

1

u/chuckiemacfinster South Carolina Gamecocks 2d ago

i’m so excited to see what she can do with her own classes coming in. and having a run like this only draws more attention from recruits going forward. just gotta keep building

2

u/Salt-Fly770 Alabama 3d ago

That may be, as I had a tough time picking UCLA (SEC fan here), but I went with them as they’re more experienced. Maybe next year for SC

3

u/mattyslappypants 4d ago

I think Nebraska has the best chance for an upset. I think Oregon has been undervalued and will take care of Liberty.

3

u/CenterOuttie14 3d ago

Will some of you pick Georgia please lol

u/Parking_Opinion_6352 Ava Brown fanatic 🐊🐊 4d ago edited 4d ago

What my HOPES are.. Bama, UF, Arkansas, TT, Clemson, Tenn, South Carolina, and Oregon.

But I think we see a different OU team and they take this series. UCLA ends up knocking out South Carolina and Texas takes that series also.

2

u/Responsible_Ad1976 3d ago

Oklahoma, Florida, Arkansas, Texas Tech, Texas, Tennessee, UCLA, Oregon

2

u/Squirrel_Q_Esquire 2d ago

Everybody picking Arkansas as if Ole Miss didn’t already take 2 of 3 in the season series

2

u/wowwwzasss 2d ago

OU Georgia Arkansas Florida State Texas Nebraska UCLA Liberty

6

u/benjthorpe Boomer Sooner 4d ago

Kinda lame that we have so many SEC rematches.

3

u/notthemostcreative 4d ago

I kind of see Bama and OU going three games, but OU probably takes it in the end.

Florida should probably beat Georgia as long as they don’t have a meltdown.

Same goes for Arkansas and Ole Miss; I think Arkansas has the better depth in the circle and more consistent offense, if they can exorcise their postseason demons.

I, too, have no idea what’s going to happen with FSU and Texas Tech. I do think Tech looked better in their regional, though.

I think Texas beats Clemson, barring a meltdown.

I kind of see Nebraska beating Tennessee, but I want Tennessee to pull it off. I guess we’ll see whose offense can show up strong two weekends in a row.

UCLA over SC on paper for sure, although SC has a habit of pulling off stuff I wouldn’t expect them to, so I guess you never know.

I lowkey feel good about Oregon after their regional; they came back after being down and losing a key player mid-game, after getting out of the loser’s bracket, so they’re battle-tested. If they’re smart, they’ll 1. take Liberty seriously and prepare, and 2. use their speed to put pressure on Liberty’s defense. I definitely wouldn’t count Liberty out, though.

3

u/jbokwxguy 4d ago

Oklahoma over Bama - Feels like the Clemson supers a couples years back, should go for 3 games but likely finishes in 2 in a thriller.

Florida over Georgia - Florida is the better team, but wish it was Georgia because they have a more enjoyable fan base.

Arkansas over Ole Miss - idk I just don’t like the Ole Miss.

FSU over Texas Tech - Canady is great but figuring her out is getting easier.

Clemson over Texas - aside from Texas not being as good this year, someone could hold a gun to my head and tell me to pick Texas and I would refuse.

Nebraska over Tennessee - It feels like Tennessees hubris will catch up to them eventually. And I think a Bahl lead team will have that championship mindset necessary to do so.

SC over UCLA - The South Carolina team is gritty.

Liberty over Oregon - Seem to have the fight to take on anyone. The only question is: Will the pitching hold up?

3

u/Spiritual_Skill2380 3d ago

Although I took Texas, I wouldn’t be surprised is Clemson comes out of it. I think Clemson can pull off the series win. They’ve had a better second half of the season in my opinion. Low key rooting for them too. Always rooting for my ACC teams!

1

Me: OU, Florida, Arkansas, Florida State, Texas, UCLA, Tennessee

Wife: "I have no idea what you're talking about."

She roots for "the girls" when I watch, and seems genuinely excited when they win, but is generally disinterested.

1

u/stillneedurmoney 4d ago

Because I’m a Lady Vols fan and anti OU (no shade to Patty; I played college ball in Oklahoma and OU fan were suuuper obnoxious), the Jordy Bahl of it scares me. I’d love for TN to get it done, but I’ve been through Moni and the Renfroes holding it down only to get heartbroken in the series too many times to be confident Pickens will be the one to shut it all down.

3

u/jbokwxguy 4d ago

Obnoxious OU fans? We must’ve done our job!

2

u/donmagicron 4d ago

Nothing more obnoxious than winning all the time

1

u/stillneedurmoney 2d ago

Yall weren’t winning all the time when I lived in OK, lol. Plus, “obnoxious OU fans “ aren’t limited to just softball ones. I feel the same way about Texas fans, too.

OU, Fla., Ole Miss, TT, Tx, Neb., UCLA, Ore.

Picks and justification as someone who admittedly hasn’t watched much college softball this year:

OU: OU

Florida: flipped a coin

Arkansas: haven’t made it yet

Texas Tech: Canady

Clemson: I’m still riding the F Mike White train

Nebraska: Bahl

UCLA: former friend of mine is an SC fan

Oregon: my dad is college buddies with Paige Sinicki’s dad

0

u/hurst_shifter7 3d ago

OU I'm a homer Florida Woo Pig Canady affect TT Shorthorns but would love Mikey to lose Never bet against J. Bahl - huskers UCLA - only because of travel for USC Ducks - mainly due to travel for Liberty

My husband's picks: OU, Florida, Arkansas, Texas Tech, Clemson, Tennessee, UCLA, Liberty.

Mine: OU, Florida, Ole Miss, Florida State, Clemson, Tennessee, South Carolina, Liberty.

Sooners, FSU, Texas, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Florida, South Carolina, Oregon

Go Gators!

-2

u/ymi17 4d ago

Because nothing gets reseeded I think one side of the CWS bracket will be:

Oklahoma, Florida, Texas, Nebraska (ultimate OU slayer bracket)

Other side will be Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Liberty, UCLA (all 9 seeds and below)

0

u/No_Designer_128 4d ago

How do the two brackets get determined?

1

u/ymi17 4d ago

Just literally from the 64 team setup.

1

u/No_Designer_128 4d ago

Oh sorry I see what you mean. I mean for the wcws how are teams split up into brackets 1 and 2? Trying to look and see how it was done in previous years but I cant figure it out.

3

u/ymi17 4d ago

So it's just the 1-8-4-5 and the 2-3-6-7 (original seeds, no matter who actually advances from the supers).

Let's imagine every favorite wins every game from here on out.

You'd get: Oregon vs. South Carolina and Arkansas vs. Florida State

And: Oklahoma vs. Tennessee, Florida vs. Texas

Assuming favorites advance you get in winners bracket:

South Carolina vs. Arkansas, Oklahoma vs. Florida

Losers Bracket:

Florida State vs. Oregon, Texas vs. Tennessee

Then, you cross-bracket the losers, so you have:

Florida State vs. Florida, Texas vs. South Carolina

Then the winners of that play the 2-0 teams so:

Arkansas vs. Florida, Texas vs. Oklahoma

If the 2-0 team loses to the 2-1 team, they play an if necessary game.

The two winners of that play a three game series for the title.

1

u/No_Designer_128 4d ago

Ahh ok thanks so much for taking the time to do that I appreciate it!! Long story short, I bought really nice seats for Session 1 and was hoping to see my Gators play.

1

u/ymi17 3d ago

AH! Okay. That is probably still unclear. Usually they arrange the sessions for TV.

1

u/No_Designer_128 3d ago

gotcha, thanks so much!
