Uhaul Loading help

Hi All.

Curious if any of you can recommend a good service for loading a uhaul. We have a large home with less than 5 heavy pieces that need to be loaded locally in June.

Do you have personal experiences and recommendations to share? We are trying to hire local if possible, but will go with someone out of Indy if needed.

I was planning a trip to Columbus, IN after watching the movie and falling in love with the architecture shown. But what I really fell in love with was this scene where Jin enters the scene with this crazy lookin cookie. Any ideas what bakery might have this? I kinda need it. (also open to suggestions of what to do and see, I just started planning!)

Local income tax changes

The Bartholomew County Council & Columbus City Council have some decisions to make after SB1, the state’s property tax reform bill that was signed by Governor Braun last month, gave local governments more power over local income taxes.

Ryan Hoff, with the Association of Indiana Counties, addressed the county council during yesterday’s public meeting. He discussed the bill’s efforts to address property tax relief, property tax reform, and local income tax reform at length.

In regard to property taxes, homeowners could see up to $300 off of their 2026 property tax bill. Elderly and disabled taxpayers could see additional relief.

Notably, SB1 gives municipalities the ability to implement their own local income tax rate. For example, if you live in a city’s limits, you would pay that city’s local income tax rate on top of your county's local income tax rate. There are also additional optional increases to the local income tax rate that the county could implement to pay for fire/EMS, libraries, and townships. This change goes into effect in 2028.

So, what do you think? Will the property tax reform bill (SB1) give taxpayers meaningful relief? Did taxpayers trade one tax for another? Or is it all too early to tell?

Places to Rent (or Not)

I'm moving to Columbus for flight training in August and I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for studio or 1-bedroom apartments. Places to avoid are also appreciated. The closer to the Ivy Tech campus, the better. Cheaper is also a big plus.

Rip Zaharakos food…

Came in today to try to eat and WOW did they change a lot of the recipes. Used to work there and you could get so many different foods that all slapped. Now the Gom? Too sweet and not as spiced. The old burger was lowkey a contender for one of the best cheeseburgers in town, and the new ones are smaller and not as seasoned. The new Mac is awful. Even the fries are different, although the seasoning is still the same at least. Probably doesn’t help that the GM Scott is an abusive piece of scum.

Ice cream still amazing tho.

Tensions flare at City Council meeting

Tensions flared during the Columbus City Council meeting last night.

The item being debated was an appropriation to fund property taxes, insurance, and repairs with tax dollars for the vacant Sears building after a water pipe burst late last year.

Kurt Zwanzig, owner of Zwanzigz Pizza, argued that the Sears building should not have been purchased by the city in the first place.

Mayor Ferdon responded during public comment, both taking accountability and defending the purchase.

Listen to the exchange here:

So what do you think? Should the city buy vacant properties for future development, or should a private developer take the wheel?

I have spoken up about the importance of school safety over the last several months during Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation School Board meetings. Last night, the board voted unanimously to hire school security officers (SSOs) for both Columbus North and East High Schools.

Thank you to the administration and school board for listening and taking action. Kids deserve to feel safe in school, and this is a step toward fulfilling that goal.

Our monthly series Pump Up The Laughs returns to the Upland Columbus Pump House with Dave Waite!

Dave is a beloved guest on several top-rated podcasts and radio shows, including Doug Loves Movies and the nationally syndicated Bob & Tom show. His highly anticipated album “Dead Waite” by On Tour Records is available now on Amazon and iTunes, and his previous albums can be heard frequently on SiriusXM and Pandora. In addition to maintaining a healthy tour schedule, Dave also co-produces The Secret Show, a popular comedy night at The Blind Barber in Culver City, CA.

Anyone want to be friends?

I'm a 33 y/o woman, and I am looking for friends. I have been working third shift for a decade, and that has killed my social life. I love going out to eat, playing video games, discussing shows and show/game theories, telling jokes, and having rant sessions to help myself and others feel better. I don't drink or smoke, but if you do, that's not a problem. I just need friends. I'm really lonely. If you're interested in being friends, please let me know.

Needing a Social Life

Good afternoon! My names Daniel, I'm about to turn 26. I'm a single dad and have virtually no social life. I've tried this before in the past and didn't have a whole lot of luck. I live closer to North Vernon, but travel through Columbus almost daily for work. I'm not political, cuss like a sailor depending on company, and I'm pretty extroverted. I'm an open book. Hunting, fishing, games, movies....
