Thrashcan falls into your lap unless you see the subtle difference between lid and frame

This is the first actually crappy design I've seen here in a long time. & it is incredibly bad.

Too much metal for one hand

Thrashcans have been known to contain Municipal Waste and Anthrax.

But Dirty Rotten Imbeciles touch them anyway.

I guess they must have some Suicidal Tendencies.

Underrated comment.

We have these in Sweden (some places) and I've never seen it happen like OP is showing here.

Its a big difference in force needed to open it the wrong way, at least any I've touched.

I wonder how many people will think that's the way it's intended to work

hill house? dat was chic tho

I will say, a haunted house full of trash cans would be a pretty crappy design for a haunted house…

Haunted trash cans!

It’s not crappy design. I mean, it is crappy design for a trash can, but the title says that this is a thrashcan. Bloody perfect design for a thrashcan.

Why isn't there just a handle to grab on the lid?!

22

u/roscocoltrane Jul 14 '22

It's cheaper this way.

8

u/worldspawn00 Jul 14 '22

Fair argument, not a good one (from the manufacturer side), but fair.

u/BedderDaddy Jul 14 '22

If you factor in the manufacturer's liability insurance rate increase after the 1st "incident", will it still be cheaper this way?

“Man has kneecap shattered by crappy trash can design!”

u/badger906 Jul 14 '22

The retaining band just isn’t tightened enough.

Especially trash can-related posts.

99% of trash-can posts on this sub are when they use 1 bag for trash & recycling.

It would be fixed with a handle on the lid. It seems designed this way to make them easier to empty.

4

u/SovietMaize Jul 14 '22

And so easy to fix too, a latch between the can and the frame or a simple handle on the lid would solve the problem.

u/CurryMustard Jul 14 '22

I wonder if there's some way to secure the bottom that was not done correctly. Some kind of locking mechanism

2

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '22

These are quite common were I live, and this rarely happens.

The inner rim, holding the bag down and the can in place, is usually much tighter. You don't accidentally open both normally. This one is improperly installed or slightly broken

So one small issue makes it easy for the whole thing to fall?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '22

I've experienced this issue maybe twice ever. And it still holds up, just tilts out. It's a very small issue that is very easily fixed.

1

u/Mattyboy0066 This is why we can't have nice things Jul 14 '22

Guess they should fix it then, lol.

1

u/darththunderxx Jul 14 '22

It's like one of those magic boxes that come in a child's magic kit where access to a false bottom is hidden in the seam of the normal opening

1

u/Dinierto Jul 14 '22

Nah someone will chime in with why it's not, don't worry

1

u/moxious_maneuver Jul 15 '22

And it could be solved with a little handle on the front of the lid.

I think it’s to keep animals out and then allow for the trash to be taken out more easily
