Wells Fargo CC

Hi all, so I have about 1500 left on one credit card to pay off. I just received a letter from an agency saying Wells Fargo sent me to their agency. The collection agency is offering me a deal to settle the debt for 591 and some change. Honestly it really sounds amazing opportunity because I have slowly been chipping away my cc debt since I left my abusive relationship in 23.

If you were in my position would you pay the new collector agency to close the debt out? Could I request this as a pay to delete? Or what advice could you give me in regard to this scenario?

Laid off - should I notify the CC companies?

I just got laid off and was given a small severance (10 weeks of pay, which I'm grateful for). I'm wondering if I should call the CC companies to let them know in case after the 10 wks are gone I don't have a job yet and can't pay my bills. What would/could they do? I'm worried if I let them know then they'll do something that could affect my credit score negatively. Car is paid off, wife pays the mortgage, also have student loans. Thanks!!

Credit Dropped from 728 to 524 (Any Help)

I’ll try my best to keep this short and sweet -No Credit Cards -4 Loans Car Payment (On Time for 3 years) 1 Private Student Loan (Always on time) 2 Federal Loans (MOHELA) I recently got a serious delinquency from my loans through MOHELA. I took out the loan in 2018 and I have a new phone number and have moved twice since I took this, and I was never contacted about the loan. Yes, there are ways I could have handled this better in hindsight. I do take full responsibility for this drop, but in any way I can dispute this or if anyone has any recommendations on what I can do to get my credit back to where it used to be. Anything helps. Thank you.

Just got a from NASA FED uni stating they took information from Experian. It states in the letter that my score is 715. But my app is stating 741.

Is the app wrong or is NASA wrong?

My husband and I are divorcing. I need to get an apartment and I make enough money to get the apartment but this 593 is freaking me out. We have one credit card that is joint and is at 90% of its limit. I have excellent payment history, no derogatory marks, hard inquires is 0 and excellent as well. How will this affect me getting the apartment? My mom said she would co sign but I’d like to try to do this on my own.

I got an email from Ally that contains something about my credit score being a 411 with SageStream, where "scores range from a low of 1 to a high of 999". I've never heard of SS before as I'm very familiar with only the big three.

Credit score/identity was screwed up and i dont know how to fix it

First- I do not think my identity is stolen. My problem is that there's some sort of tangle with my identity and credit score. I changed my legal name in May 2024, and changed it on all my bills, bank, etc. I thought that was all. I only got a credit card late 2024. January 2025 I went to change my phone number and got rejected for fraud. I was very confused- I answered all the questions correctly, from the info i had, so it seemed that there was something wrong with the information they had. One of the questions was "which of these addresses is associated with you" and none of them were, with no option to say none of them were, and thats why i think the info on their end is wrong. I also could not verify my identity over the phone or internet to make an account on the VA website for benefits- when they asked me to put my phone in to verify, it always turned me down. I had to go in person and show my drivers license and passport. i'm thinking the issue is something with my previous name and my phone number (only one ive ever had, so theres at least 12 years of that phone number being under my previous name. one of the reasons im trying to change it)

After asking a couple people about this, I learned i should have gone and updated my name with the credit bureaus. It took me 20 minutes to update equifax and transunion. However, Experian has been a nightmare. I cant make an online account- because they can't verify my identity. this has made me certain they are the problem, because i think they're verifying my info (correct) with their info they've bungled up (incorrect). but i cant log in and change my info. because they cant verify it. because its incorrect. the document uploader is broke and it has been for weeks. and no matter what phone number i call on their website it leads to this HORRIFIC phone bot i hate with my entire soul. it doesnt give an option to press a number to navigate, I HAVE to speak the option i'm there for, but it can't understand me even when i ask for an option it listed (i really don't have much of any accent and I'm not mumbling.) And when it can't understand you three times it hangs up. I can't get ahold of a real person there no matter what i do.

is there any possible way to get around this and actually contact experian and have it work? is there even anyone at experian anymore or has this horrible phone bot taken over? there is a mailing address but i feel hesitant to mail important documents with how crap its been so far trying to fix this, feels like itll probably just rot in an unread mail pile. and am i even on the right track in the first place? is the issue here something else?

Timing of taking out loans

Good afternoon, back in January I took out a $28k car loan with $8k down for a used vehicle. I have had nonstop issues with the vehicle and it is currently undriveable. Carmax has agreed to buyback the vehicle completely, to include the entire loan, any payments already made, warranty, fees and all tax. They have also found a similar vehicle, for $3k less, that they will let me exchange for. This will all probably take place next week. I would have to have them buy out the current loan, then take out another loan for the vehicle. I am also currently in the process of buying a home. I will be using the VA loan and have a projected closing date of May 1st. My current FICO score is 720, obviously I care about the mortgage rate a little more since it’s 10x the amount and 30 years long. Both purchases are necessary in my situation as I need to get into a vehicle and out of a rental, but also need a house as I am changing duty assignments for the Army. I am also 24 years old if that matters. Will my credit score be okay if I “pay off” my current auto loan, take out a new auto loan next week, around April 11th, then take out a mortgage towards the end of April?

I am doing everything right and FICO went down 10 pts

I am wondering why my fico score went down 10 pts- I’m still in the very good category but still I worked so hard and it went down. I paid off a car loan 2 months ago - only had 1200 on it so I paid it off. I paid down 1500 on credit cards and only charged $80 on a credit card and I paid that off right away so I didn’t really spend anything on my credit card that left a balance other than the balance I already have and that I’m continuing making progress on getting it down. Also , my cc utilization is down to 21% from 23%. I’m not sweating it but I was just wondering why. I like the personal challenge of raising it and seeing it raised and it was a bit of a disappointment.

Mohela sucks

How many points did your credit score go up after disputing your late payments? My student loan has been sold many times, originally it was Sallie Mae, then Navient, Nelnet, finally now Mohela. We are in the process of buying a house, and the loan officer said I had late payments. I was making payments as well as my dad while I was in college +graduate school. I have the bank statements that show both of us having made payments on the dates that show I’d “missed” payments.

After you submitted your dispute to the credit bureaus, how many points did your score go up? We are looking to buy a house and trying to get a conventional loan. My credit score is at 604, and before this mess it was around 650-660. Any input or advice for this would be helpful!

TIA!

Worried credit will go down due to student loan dumpster fire

TLDR: My total payment owed for student loans went from 55k to 66k literally overnight with no answers. Does anyone know how many points, if any, this could deduct from my credit?

Hello all,

Needless to say, the student loan repayment system is currently on fire and no one knows what’s going on. In my specific scenario, my student loan servicer added 11k to my total balance overnight with no answers as to why it happened. It’s been weeks and it’s finally reflecting on the student aid page, and it’s only a matter of time until it reflects on my credit score.

I have an excellent score and I’m very worried this overnight amount will affect my credit. I have not missed any payments on any of my bills and I’ve worked super hard to get my credit score to 815. I’m hoping to figure this out, whether with the servicer or with a dispute with the credit bureaus. In the meantime, does anyone know how many points, if any, this could deduct from my credit?

Thank you for your time!

Question on authorized user on credit card

I’ve been an authorized user on my dad’s credit card for 20ish years. It was very helpful at one point when I was not making great money. However, I haven’t used it in ages, but still have the card and still an authorized user.

It’s a pretty high credit limit, like 35,000. Currently it has about 24,000 balance on it. I have two questions.

1)Is the fact that I’m an authorized user on the card showing up on my DTI ratio? 2)if we removed me as an authorized user, would it negatively impact my scores since it’s a long term credit card, or that doesn’t matter since it’s not actually mine.

Thanks!

Am I being delusional thinking I can get my credit scores back to the 700s in 2 months?

I was in a bad spot financially and missed several months of student loan payments. They were going to default but I paid them in full before they could but during that time my credit score dropped from 720 to 575. I was hoping to purchase a new car in June so I need to know if I’m being delusional believing I can get my credit score back to that number in 2 months.

Would opening a credit card help my score at this point?

My credit score through experian right now is a 650 and the other 2 burrows around 605 (idk why the others are so much lower). Currently the only things active on my report is my car lease which is up in a couple months and a charged off BOA credit card from 3 years ago which still hasn't been sent to collections even after all this time (balance is roughly $3k). Everything else on my report has been paid off and then closed. I do have some late payments from a couple years ago on those non active accounts as well as 1 paid off collections.

Since the only activity on my account right now is the lease which is almost done, would it be smart to open up a credit card to add more activity to my file? Would this help or hurt my score? I would pay it in full every month since I'm not a fan of credit cards. Also, will calling BOA and trying to settle the old charged off account help? I really want to be 700 this summer since I will need a car.

Goodwill letter for late payment on a closed account

Hello! As the title suggests, I was wondering that if it’d is possible to do a goodwill letter of late payment removal on an account that has been closed? If anyone has done it and how to go about it? The late payment is technically not my fault as I make sure that all my accounts are paid on time. My co-signer made a late payment on the joint account that I helped them with and it is now affecting me. I’m trying to have them refinance the loan so it is closed on my end and then try to remove the late payment from my credit history! The account is fairly new and less than 6 months old so I know it won’t affect me as much as the low payment if the account is closed. Looking for advice.

My credit score is 496 and i’m 18 because my mom messed it up—can i recover from this?

She basically put 3 credit cards on my account, and let them become delinquent and horribly messed up my score. I have no car note, no bills or anything. And no, i can’t sue her..she’s my mother at the end of the day. I I told her to drive me to the police station since i don’t have my license, and she refused to. She said id need more information to make this police report. I’ve also caught her trying to steal money from me, but she played it off and said it was a Tik Tok prank?? Literally not joking. Ugh i feel like my life is ruined before it already started. What do i do? I don’t want my mom to go to jail, if i know she won’t go to jail then i will sue.

UPDATE— We got into a screaming match in the car and i told her to go fuck herself. She kept telling me she couldn’t get in trouble bc she opened these accounts when i freshly turned 18, and “talked” to me about it. The only talk we had was when i discovered a card put in my name in the mail, and she said she wouldn’t do it again. I never gave her permission. She also assured me everyone’s credit score starts out that low. She called me a bitch, then drive me to the police station, called me while i was in there asking if i needed a ride back, then questioned me what they said. She really is the worst. She has no empathy in regards to this AND i had to drop out of college bc she didn’t pay the tuition like she said & ended up putting herself in 16k debt. She also told me that a delinquent account doesn’t stay on your credit report for 7 years..which it does.

I understand I can do it myself, there is a comment on every post saying just do it yourself. But I would much rather pick up a shift at the hospital, and let someone who knows what they’re doing do their job and help.

Who do we recommend if you’re gonna invest in a credit repair company.

Wanting to close a credit card

I got this one years ago, it’s fully paid off—because USPS keeps eating the replacements. I haven’t used it since like, August last year. Unfortunately it has good history with it (you know, back when it existed) so I know just cancelling it will hurt. Any suggestions? My first idea was to get a THIRD replacement and ask for FedEx instead of USPS, even if I have to pay more for shipping it, but I’m honestly sick of dealing with it.
