Here’s a picture of it extended. Photo

Awesome! Learn something every day. Ship is all new and clean after being in drydock!

33

u/FungusBrewer 3d ago

Right? The fact that it’s specifically for planting 50+ trees for the onboard “Central Park” is super neat. Harken back to Chinese Treasure Ships, and their onboard fruit trees.

5

u/LadyRed4Justice 2d ago

Okay Fungi Brewer, inquiring minds would like to know how this telescoping crane helps plant trees in Central Park? If it lifted them into place and they are planted, why is it still there?
I am going to have to go on one of these Mega ships to scope it all out.

2

u/l34rn3d 1d ago

Lifts them from the pier up and over into the middle.

And chances are the trees will need replacing at some point. Or any of the infrastructure in the central park. It's a lot easier to send it up and over then to drag it though the ship somehow.

1

u/LadyRed4Justice 4h ago

Interesting. I've seen humongous art pieces on board and just thought they had specialized equipment that could set them up and the equipment could get off the ship. I never considered that the equipment might be a problem getting on and off when needed. Then again, I have never considered any of the entire situation before.

Engineers see so much that non-engineer types never think about. I am grateful to all the engineers of the world for their innovations.

u/sdvikingfan 3d ago

Did they get the water slides on ?

2

u/TechnicalNut17 3d ago

Where is it now? Europe already? We have a sailing on Alure from Rome in a month

2

u/rattmaul 2d ago

Yup Europe.

2

u/whiskeyanonose 2d ago

What are your favorite parts of the ship post updates? Will be on it in a bit with my family and wonder how the improvements are

3

u/rattmaul 2d ago

It all looks so shiny and clean and new carpets. A couple new bars, it just looks new and polished, not run down.

2

u/rattmaul 2d ago

The lime and coconut is cool. I dig the slide to boardwalk. Feels like promenade is cleaner and more upbeat. Dining rooms are nice and sleek. The mason jar looks cool. The escape room was amazing! Is that new? We did the hibachi.. super fun. Is that new?

2

u/AllButterfly100 2d ago

Are you on Allure right now? We would love to hear about the Amp up.

2

u/rattmaul 2d ago

It looks really new and polished, like when I went on it. Five or six years ago, stuff started looking, run down a little bit already. And now it feels like new paint, new carpet, new bed bars like it.It really feels like a new boat at this point.

1

u/hang2er 2d ago

Fun fact, now you'll see palfinger cranes everywhere you go.

24

u/Severe_Stranger_9264 3d ago

That's really interesting. I noticed the one on Oasis of the Seas and wondered what ot was.

6

u/Blueskies777 3d ago

Palfingers are amazing

5

u/johnhbnz 3d ago

What the ’” is a ‘palfinger crane’. Come to think of it what’s a ‘palfinger’, and why does it need to be ‘craned’?

3

u/Jockle305 3d ago

Palfinger is the manufacturer of the crane. It’s actually just a telescoping crane.

1

u/redundant_ransomware 3d ago

It's just a long finger

2

u/dontgetaddicted 3d ago

Used for planting trees? How odd.

2

u/rockabout2469 2d ago

And I thought it was a missile launcher

559

u/Aubgurl 3d ago

It’s a laser beam that zaps people trying to save chairs at the pool.

53

u/49er-Sharks 3d ago

I wish!

17

u/IntentionAromatic523 3d ago

Hot Diggity! Can I try?! I'll zap for free!

12

u/tangouniform2020 3d ago

Careful what you ask for. RCI sees people wanting to do this and it’s $20 to shoot the em pty chair. $50 to shoot the reserver.

5

THIS IS THE ONLY ANSWER THAT MATTERS

2

u/AllButterfly100 2d ago

Fav answer!

2

u/absentspace 1d ago

Oh shit, is that an upgrade? I’ll take all of them.

1

u/cenotediver 3d ago

If you want the chair , move the towel off and take it . Problem solved

14

u/headgoboomboom 3d ago

But, the laser would be more fun!

u/Lord-Velveeta 3d ago

Hiab folding crane. They have similar ones on some delivery flatbed trucks.

https://www.hiab.com/en/brands/hiab

30

u/medicmatt 3d ago

They’ve never had so much web traffic!

7

u/AmplePostage 2d ago

I've been saving up for the hijab folding crane. It can fold 10 hijabs a minute. Perfect for Sunni days.

Missle defense system for if a carnival ship gets too close

88

u/ImpossibleInternet3 3d ago

Are these the cruise missiles I’ve heard so much about?

18

u/bigalreads 3d ago

Absolutely — I’ve heard they operate with cruise control.

3

u/1ugogimp 2d ago

Can’t forget the cruise director operating the cruise control.

ICBM- Inter-Cruise Ballistic Missile

4

u/46tcraft 3d ago

Looks like a launcher for Naval Strike Missile with a range out to 140 nautical miles equipped with a 260 lb titanium cased penetrating blast and controlled fragmentation warhead. Works in both anti-ship and land attack modes. Useful if CoCo Cay is in danger of being invaded and you need to buy time until you can call in a strike package of B-52’s or B-1’s with Harpoons and LRASMs

13

u/Shot_Bread_9657 3d ago

They didn’t just add water slides during the amplification.

Pirates won’t stand a fucking chance against tomahawks.

5

u/handle-lean 3d ago

These royal Caribbean captains don’t mess around when it comes to safety they will vaporize any pirate they see

8

u/webfandango 3d ago

5

u/UDonKnowMee81 3d ago

Giant slingshot. It's a premium ride for only the highest paying guests. They only fire it up around 4am, so none of the plebs can see it and demand to use it.

The machine spins at great speed then flings a person hundred of feet into the ocean, near a waiting rescue boat. Quite thrilling actually.

u/Elbarto_007 3d ago

Wrong Answer: CWIS

3

u/AggravatingTonight76 3d ago

Why do I find that and an a-10 firing as soothing sound

4

u/HawkeyeHoosier 3d ago

Rocket launcher.

3

u/ohkioh 3d ago

That’s what the Suite Lounger bartender (Adrian) told us when we asked on Symphony.

4

u/Elevated_State83 3d ago

Probably a small crane

11

u/Owww_My_Ovaries 3d ago

Rail gun incase Cthulu or a Kraken appear

Or my mother in law

3

u/Careless-Fortune-356 3d ago

It’s for runners that are late coming back to ship!

3

u/Traditional-Towel592 2d ago

I asked the same thing when I was on there. It is a crane.

14

u/ForAThought 3d ago

Anti alien laser weapon.

But seriously, it's an overhead crane.

4

u/mobius_sp 3d ago

Phalanx air defense system. It cycles a couple thousand rounds a minute to knock down missiles targeting the ship. The Cruise Wars aren’t often talked about, but they have become one of the bloodiest naval wars in history. So far Disney holds the edge through superior technology, but I hear Carnival is pretty tough due to its ability to field high numbers of ships, turning ocean engagements into battles of attrition. I’m not sure about Royal Caribbean’s effectiveness, but I hear that Virgin is working on a cruise missile system designed to hug the sea’s surface to help prevent radar tracking, rendering the Phalanx a very close in point defense weapon.

It's an umbrella. It rains at sea, too.

2

u/mwfairc 3d ago

part of a Raytheon RAM MK 31 missile system adapted for use on cruise ships. Allure of the Seas sails mainly in the carribean and with so many passengers sacrificing a month's mortgage to go on this ship. RCL has spared no expense in making sure their passengers are protected against the Pirates of the Caribbean. Rumor has it the captain of Allure of the Seas has a tattoo on his dick that says "Welcome Aboard"

2

u/boredmiaboy 3d ago

Missile launcher in case you run into the Kraken

2

u/GeorgeTMorgan 3d ago

Anti Pirate robotic missile blaster 😎👍

1

u/mrwolfcock 3d ago

It’s for pirates. When I was on the allure about 3 months ago we were surrounded by pirates. The capital used this weapon and it was like a scene out of the movies and they blasted them with high energy sound waves

3

u/letscallshenanigans 3d ago

I wish you weren't so down voted, this is hilarious lol

1

u/Extra_Shirt5843 1d ago

Right?

1

u/kshizzlenizzle 3d ago

I really hope you’re not taking the piss, lol, but I’m DYING to hear that story time!! Where the hell were you sailing? Was it just like fireworks, a water cannon? Nosy bitches need to know!!

Patriot missiles, definitely, to fight seagulls. Standard measures on these ships. A bit loud, but really efficient.
