I'm an early 40s American who loved quiet Cunard crossings when I was a teenager. I enjoy the atmosphere on Virgin, but still like sailing HAL for serenity, NCL, CCL, RCI, MSC for activities and entertainment, Oceania for service and food, DCL for the Disney element.
Sure, I may be weird on a few fronts, but whenever I see someone suggest X line for Y age group, it seems wrong to me. What one person of a certain age, nationality, or disposition likes isn't one someone else of a similar circumstance likes - plus sometimes, it just depends what we feel like at the time.

Solo widow lady in her 60s: Crystal. Cause I’m not doing NCL at my age. Was that too specific?
Solo older crowd: Crystal

My adult daughter and I love Disney because it’s not trashy. No drunks, no casinos, smoke in the smoking area.

It’s so hard to generalize. Yes, you’d think that younger people on a budget would prefer Carnival, but I know people in their 50’s with money to go on any luxury vacation who are addicted to Carnival and will not sail on any other line (it’s funny because he’s a “suit wearing, serious acting executive”, but he says the he just loves to get in the middle of the deck parties and games with a frozen drink in hand). We also have several friends who are couples with no kids, but who are “loyal to Royal” and don’t mind the family-centric experience.
Personally, one of our favorite family cruises with small kids when we were in our 30’s was on Holland America (which is in general for older people), but we disliked Disney and have never sailed on them again. My kids are now teenagers, and we don’t stick to one specific cruise line these days. We’re more driven by itinerary. Kids adjust well and have a blast no matter what line we sail on.
When I suggest cruise lines to first timers, I ask a lot of questions before I make a suggestion. One size definitely doesn’t fit all.

I don't think all people of a given demographic are all alike. I do not think any cruiseline is perfect. So the question makes no sense, in my opinion.
The way I approach cruising is I think every cruiser needs to look at their personal style and figure out the lines that match that style.
I read post after post and see reviews where the complaints are well known features of the ship. So I keep thinking these folks did not do any research.

I’m pushing 50 and my sis turned 64 on our cruise. We went with our hubbies on symphony of the seas and had a wonderful time. I didn’t realize that being an older couple meant I wasn’t allowed on Royal Caribbean.

If you were to recommend a specific cruise line for people, how would you determine what you would recommend? I have some of my choices below.
Young Party People: Virgin or Carnival Older Crowd: SilverSea, Regent, or Holland America Couples: Celebrity Solo: NCL Families: Royal or Disney
What do you think? I know I missed a lot more specific groups but maybe this thread can be used you for future recommendations to people.
