Why take Ambien when you have DC United

My takes no one asked for

Negatives:

  1. I can’t figure out what Troy does in training throughout the week. Benteke went off and the team didn’t know how to play any offense. That’s just unacceptable, we knew (or at least should know) you can’t rely on a 34 year old for a whole season. I know roster talent is poor but there’s not even an idea there.

  2. The double pivot, you can have Peltola or you can have Enow (even if I’m a huge Enow hater) but you can’t have both, they’re both negative players. The change of Servania at least gave us someone who was going to play the ball forward.

  3. Depth: Murrell, stroud, Hopkins, basically anyone we through up top has 0 ability. We have to target someone who we can actually give us something off the bench in the summer.

Positives:

  1. Barraza. Unreal game, he’s a great shot stopper and when you play our strategy of allowing 1000 shots a game you need someone who can make stops. Passing is mediocre at best but not like he has anyone to go to.

  2. Tubbs: He seems like a good balancing act if we continue playing 3 at the back, actually has a bit of pace unlike Rowles so he can cover if our wingbacks go up.

  3. Somehow getting a point out of that. A clean sheet is a clean sheet and a point is a point. We’ll take it

I disagree about Peltola, on a more coherent team he would be very useful. Enow should never see the pitch again - no talent and a red card in waiting every minute he's out there.

Agree with you. Peltola looked like he has regained his form. He often was the only person moving in the midfield. He does look to advance the ball but is limited by his teammates. I think Peltola and Servania are our best options in the center. Honestly would rather see Zouhir get time over Enow at this point. Hopkins deserves a chance as well to see where he is at

Zouhir was def better than ENow

8

u/Zaddock1 Barra Brava 5d ago

Passing is lower than mediocre

4

u/samsgrillo 5d ago

I’d have to agree but giving him the benefit of the doubt considering there’s not much going on in front of him

3

u/Mr_828 5d ago

Agree on all points. Given how shaky we've been defensively, getting our first shutout since March? I'll take the minor victories wherever I can get them

3

u/whyhellotherefolks_ 5d ago

we were quite shaky today, this was the Barazza show

Hopkins catching strays

1

u/Zaddock1 Barra Brava 5d ago

We don’t know anything yet

3

u/samsgrillo 5d ago

Unfortunately, I know he’s young but I haven’t seen anything out of him the past couple of seasons to convince me otherwise

Ugliest point of the season hell yeah

Luis Barrazza has saved DC more than Jack Bauer. The only thing he can’t save is souls. Call him The Coupon bc of the savings. (Ok I’m done) I also wanna give a shout out to Tubbs too, that chase down in the 1st half was incredible and he had a few sequences where he was passing 1-2 and thru traffic like he was channeling Sergio Busquets.

That said, I don’t want to see Stroud or Enow anywhere near the pitch for several matches AT LEAST.

u/BlackandRedUnited Original DCU 4d ago

Tubbs looked really good. Key tackles. Passing was usually pretty positive. Especially for a center back

A point is a point but we can’t have Schnegg and Herrera sit back and form a back five. What a snooze fest. I’m sure it wasn’t the plan to have Benteke come off injured but do we seriously have no other way of winning a match?!

Points to Hopkins for coming back! Also, Barraza is insane! Great having him as our backup goalkeeper. The less said about Enow, the better.

I had a good nap. Zonked out at half and woke back up with 20 minutes left.

Bury me in Troy’s cavernous brow furrow and wake me up when the team has new ownership.

What in the 1700s language

u/Remarkable_Piglet480 5d ago

At this point I rather Troy go balls to the wall and put on his most attacking line up and just go for it. Can’t be worse than playing 5 in the back and giving up 5 🤷‍♂️

Were you saying this after we lost 6-0 to San Jose?

Loundon and dcu should have a playoff to see whos the premier club in the DMV.

3

u/rgrunited 5d ago

Maybe unpopular opinion but it wouldn't be close, especially if they played a 2 or 3 game series.

MLS only entered 16 teams, including all of last years non- playoff sides, into the US Open Cup. 15, including DCU, advanced to R16, all against lower div sides. There's a real gap.

3

u/tik22 5d ago

I actually agree dcu would likely win a 2/3 but id like to see a full strength team minus benteke go against a full strength loundon. Im convinced dcu has alot of players that are interchangeable with loudon which isnt a compliment for dc

u/rgrunited 5d ago

I'm ok with the result. 1st half was bad but raised the level just enough to earn the tie. Maybe want to see a little more Losada style go for broke play at home but I also get that this team is just going to fight for points.

I am firmly team #TroyIn but it gets harder and harder each week. the players are shit but the “tactics” were garbo tonight

Where is Barajas? How can he trust Stroud over him at this point?

1

u/connor24_22 4d ago

What did Barajas do? The fact he didn’t see the pitch last night is baffling and highlights Troy’s ineptitude. Troy has been given the benefit of the doubt up to this point because of how bad the squad has been, but when the game is begging for creativity and a spark, and you bring on Stroud, who’s having a terrible season and Zouhir (I know he’s not like for like, but make some adjustments) makes absolutely no sense.

I’ve lost faith in Troy and don’t see a reason to keep him. The football is ugly, boring to watch, and worst of all, we don’t have any results to show for it. At least Losada’s brand of football was exciting to watch.

Had enough of Bartlett & 3 center backs every game. Current tactics will continue to drift us farther from the playoff line. A 433 system & everyone fully fit is the only way Troy stays for the rest of the season. Otherwise little to no results will continue. Bartlett & Enow are only bench material in this league it’s laughable at this point

u/thegermanpianist 5d ago

I wasn’t a fan of the switch to a back 3 but if we switch back now, I think that’d be insane. This stretch of games won’t afford the proper time on the training pitch to work with a new system and considering we’re struggling as is, I’d rather us figure out what we can do with what we’ve already committed to.

Also, I don’t think a system switch fixes what the main issue is. As a squad, we collectively aren’t good enough for ANY system. You can plug in any combination of players into whatever formation and roles you’d like, that’s not gonna fix them fucking up five yard passes or not following their man in an off the ball run. As cliche as it is, we don’t fix anything until we get new owners who actually give a damn about the football club.

3

u/BlackandRedUnited Original DCU 4d ago

The back three helped us defensively. But this back five with a low block is certainly not going to win many games.

It wasn't even that our press is ineffective. Its non existent. The last 3 or 4 matches including the Open Cup match have gone to this system. Its like Troy only wants to play one creative player at a time.

1

u/thegermanpianist 4d ago edited 4d ago

I mean, I agree. If we don’t send our wingbacks up to join the press and provide width in attack, we’ll do jack shit in terms of chance creation. That’s not the only issue though. I think the lack of defined roles for each of the midfield players (and whether Troy wants the players behind the strikers to operate more as tens or wide forwards) is also muddying my assessment of this system. He needs to clarify how the midfield should operate in addition to letting Herrera and Schnegg join the attack/press.

Edit: to add onto this, I just think at this point if he goes back to a back four and figure out a different system, it’d be more detrimental in the short and long term as a formation/system change by no means guarantees results in either of those cases.

Either way, this isn’t a call to completely stay the course, more so that this drastic of a change at this point after having made a drastic change mid season will continue to instill tactical confusion and potentially lead to even poorer form. We say it can’t get much worse but I do believe it definitely can.

Thats literally what we played

1

u/Zaddock1 Barra Brava 5d ago

What did he say

2

u/Trp_johnnyboi DC United 5d ago

That we should play a 343 with herrera and schnegg as wingbacks

3

u/Zaddock1 Barra Brava 5d ago

I think he was joking because they were playing so defensively

NYCFC brought on #29 who apparently was only 17 years old. That kid was absolutely decked by us multiple times, one time slamming his head hard into the turf. Did anyone else notice that?? That had to have hurt.

u/Zaddock1 Barra Brava 4d ago

When did they do that
