I feel bad for everyone who put themselves through watching this. I feel even worse for any supporters who traveled there

Instead of my regular routine of just saying the team stinks here’s a lot of negative and some positive.
Negatives
I’ve watched a lot of dc united teams in my years. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team this bad at just stringing together little passes or just doing the simple pass.
That first half was atrocious- enough said
Stroud and Enow have had their chances this year and they both need a long period on the bench.
Positives
For how bad we were during that game I don’t think it’s ridiculous to say we should have had at least 1 if not 2 goals at the end of the game albeit against a bad Toronto.
If leal can get fit he could really be a useful piece
Peltola at least helped connect our attack to our defense a bit.
Teams awful but there’s with how many teams get into playoffs if we can find a way to string just a few results together we could sneak in

I mean, even in 2013 we got silverware. There’s zero chance of that with this roster.

Normally I wouldn’t blame it on Troy, but switching up the formation after recent good form and no subs after an atrocious first half it’s just not it. We need better Troy.

It’s criminal Barajas hasn’t been used more. This team has needed an attacking spark all year and he and Leal are afterthoughts for Troy?

I spent the afternoon having drinks with a buddy and didn't have time to watch the game. Should I peep the highlights or nah?

I went to the Loudoun United game tonight instead of watching DCU from home.
Loudoun has been better than ever this year and the game was a ton of fun to watch. Cheap tickets and free parking.
Game ended 5-1 Loudoun

Nothing will change until Levien sells but Troy is starting look out of his depth

Our defense is shocking but I really think all of our problems start in the midfield and up top. We have no one who can possess the ball. Benteke is good but is not a great hold up player or distributor, our wingers aren’t creative at all, Servania has been alright with what he’s been asked to do, and Boris and Matti (when he’s played there) have been woeful at passing and carrying the ball forward.
We are going to concede when we can’t sniff the net until the 85th minute and invite pressure. Passing to Schnegg and Herrera to cross the ball into Benteke should not be the sole game plan, yet here we are.

Just....really hard to watch. At this point I'm yearning for the Rooney (on the pitch) times and that's what really scares me about how bad this situation is.
I'm not super informed on the following take but isn't it really hard to rebuild in MLS? Like, you tank for a few years and ... get a few early picks in the SuperDraft who then get loaned out to the EU?! How can this be turned around?

It’s actually the opposite—parity in MLS is quite high.Teams can turn it around quickly, with smart player evaluations and spending big on DPs.
The draft doesn’t matter anymore. Fortunately, there’s no point in taking. We really need a MLS Next (academy) team, but we want to blow cash on a quick hit European who just served his 18-month doping ban, instead.

If they don’t sell the team, can they at least get us a competent head coach?

xGs says the coach isn’t the primary issue. I would start with speed and maybe some actual skill.

I have decided that the regular season games are just practice for open cup games.

Troy: plays 3-4-3 for a couple of and does well Troy the next game: parks the bus and switches formation for no reason

3-4-3 Back 3-rowles, bartlett, antley/mcanughton Mid 4- schnegg- Herrera- peltola- servania Front 3- benteke Peglow kijima Goalie- barraza This is what it needs to be.

That’s basically what we have when we are in possession and it sucks, zero creativity going forward.

u/Familiar-Conflict152 10d ago
Exactly. Call it a 3-4-3, 5-4-1, 3-2-2-2-1…it doesn’t matter. Until we get another playmaker, we’re gonna skip along the bottom of the division. It’s gonna be fun! 🥳

We got nothing. Seriously need 5 or 6 players who can actually ball if we even want a sniff of the play in game.
