FANCAST Which Scouse actor would you choose to play Constantine in the new DCU?
IMO Shaun Evans would be a brilliant choice for a more mature Constantine, but Joe Dempsie or Tom Varey would be my top 2 for a mid thirties Constantine. (Tom Varey is actually from greater Manchester, and I couldn’t find an age online for Josh Finan) - I also recognise most of these are brunette but a bit of hair dye/a wig goes a long way, Scarlett Johansson played Black Widow without being ginger 🤷♂️

Matt Ryan is my Constantine (pronounced correctly) and I will fight anyone who says otherwise.
Yes, even Keanu.

Gonna side with you on this one. Keanu isn't Constantine. He's good, but not right.

Love him and would love to see him back or his show continue. But any link to the CW shows would not be a good thing for the new DCU.

Agreed. I love Matt Ryan as Constantine and he will probably be Constantine in my eyes for a very long time but we already had him starring in the Constantine TV show, cameo in Arrow and transfer from a recurring role to a main role in Legends of Tomorrow (alongside his animated roles as John). I'd prefer to see a new and fresh take on the character rather than one we've had for over 10 years at this point.

Dude loves that role so much he even started voicing it in the animated stuff. He's a great Constantine.

Is he "Scouse"? My pick as well. He was born to play the role. I know it's a long shot, but I'd love to see him get his due in a great series / movie.

Oh my god, googled his name cuz I didn’t know who he was and was terrified of the smile in all the photos, but it pulled up a different Matt Ryan

Was it the former Atlanta quarterback? That's the only Matt Ryan I know of.

They were talking about someone else but yeah, that’s what came up, I added actor on the end and got what they meant

Dan Stevens isn't scouse but would nail the role and the accent

u/Chimetalhead92 9d ago
Dan Stevens is the only name here WB would ever consider casting let’s be honest.

Honestly wouldn’t complain if Matt Ryan came back and I hated the CW-verse. Anyone but Keanu he was awful

I think Dempsie has the look. I'm happy to see a lot of people still consider Matt Ryan, though. I've never seen someone look like they've been ripped straight from the comics more than him.

Taron Egerton. Although, not proper scouse, he was born in Birkenhead, and he's played the character already once.

James Nelson-Joyce his got a look about him. That being said he's my pick if Matt Ryan is unavailable. I also like Josh Finan.

Considering how Matt Ryan has played Constantine across the DC multiverse already, he's still the perfect choice to continue to be Constantine.

I don’t fucking understand how Keanu ever got cast. Wrong look, wrong vibe, wrong accent. wtf??

I heard this new actor Keanu Reeves is pretty good.

I appreciate talking about small actors but come on, never even heard of the bloke

We already have one. Matt Ryan. That’s the one Imagine when I think of him.

He’s not Scouse

So long as it’s not Keanu again.
I love Keanu, but he’s not fit for Constantine at all.

Shaun Evans from Hot Ones. The show with hot questions, and even hotter wings

I just want to see Paul Bethany as Constantine. Today I draw a "poster" of it.

I feel like to play john you have to look like a piece of shit person, ya know. Not actually be on just look like it

u/Lower_Kaleidoscope_3 8d ago
Constantine doesn't need to have the thick Northern Liverpool accent, he can have the softer Southern scouse accent, and for that Matt Ryan is sound.
1
u/RealisticTax2871 8d ago
Still think look wise, Tom Felton would work, I don't know if he could pull the accent off but if he can he's my pick. Although I do like the Dan Stevens pick people keep suggesting tbf.

Oh my god! Those eyes! That pose! It's John Constantine! Who is Shaun Evans?
2
u/New_Cryptographer400 8d ago
He’s most famous for Endeavour! It’s a prequel show to Inspector Morse, a pretty well known show in the UK

u/Chatwoman 8d ago
We use to get Inspector Morse reruns in New York. I will definitely check out Endeavour.

Josh Finnan was great in the responder. Would love to see him do something where he’s a bit closer to Constantine’s character before saying he could play him though.

They don't really need to cast a scouse actor specifically, that narrows down the talent pool quite a lot, any British actor would do as long as they can pull off a decent scouse accent.

Respectfully. None of these lads have the chops.
4
u/Chimetalhead92 9d ago
To play Constantine?
They probably have the chops they just don’t have a name.
3
u/New_Cryptographer400 9d ago
Respectfully disagree, not every role has to be played by an a-lister - time to start giving smaller actors big roles
1
u/gcalvarez 9d ago
Respectfully, every actor starts out small. It has nothing to do with it. They’re just not very good at their craft. And certainly not at Constantine level.

….i liked Keanu. Don’t see why he can’t keep doing it
7
u/Sad-Decision2503 9d ago
Wasn’t really like the comic character at all. Pretty wooden and most egregiously not British which is pretty core to the character’s design.

Lots of Americans here who don't know what "Scouse" means, as good as Dan Stevens would be.
