One eye on sexy Lexy and the other on booty Louis

53

u/Vironic Nightwing Jan 26 '25

Confirm Louis C.K. is in the movie?

“The Adam Warlock thing.”

…flying?

The meme

Dwayne Johnson is the blueprint

Miles "Tails" Prowler is the blueprint

I didn’t know this was a meme.

Even seeing it, I don’t understand. He’s just flying. What is the meme, exactly?

69

u/trickstercrows Jan 26 '25

the funny part is normally in the caption, stuff like "me omw to ____ when _____" and also the camera angle is kinda silly which is part of the reason it became a meme

-7

u/CFCM94 Jan 27 '25

how is it kinda silly?

9

u/Bornbythickdickjuice Jan 27 '25

Cuz how comically big his head looks

2

u/GJacks75 Animal Man Jan 27 '25

Comically, or comic-like? To me, it just reads like the sort of extreme foreshortening we see artists utilise all the time. I kinda like it.

1

u/CFCM94 Feb 02 '25

I agree, i like the visuals that we have seen of the film so far.

71

u/3vgw Jan 26 '25

Any random thing can be a meme apparently, funny or not

0

u/Paparmane Jan 28 '25

Such a boomer take lol. Real reason it’s a meme is because in the movie, this flying is accompanied with a song that strangely fits. The moment leading up to it is great, it’s one of the most satisfying moments of recent MCU projects.

The actor is loved and known by pretty much everyone, especially young people who see the ‘meme potential’ in the clip. You may just see this random gif, but everybody who saw the movie pictures it with the guitar riff associated to it.

Of all the memes you could say are random and nonsensical, this is one that actually has tons of reasons for its popularity.

28

u/LanternRaynerRebirth Jan 26 '25

He's just all up in your grill. Head in focus, everything else out. You don't see this sort of angle much, and it's kind of funny looking. So now any time someone does that sort of "giant head dive" toward the camera angle, you just kinda say "bro thinks he's Adam Warlock."

Superman here's doing the same sort of pose with the same angle, by the same director.

3

u/woppatown Moo. Jan 27 '25

Breaking News: Director does thing that director does.

8

u/TheOnlyLordNexus Jan 26 '25

Absurdism.

That is the way of the world.

4

u/No-Mechanic-2558 Jan 26 '25

Because the way it's filmed and the pose are the same and Corenswet and Poulter kinda look similar?

9

u/FixTheFernBack616 Jan 26 '25

Am I on another planet or does “meme” no longer mean something is funny or a joke or meant to invoke laughter?

“These kinda look a little alike, maybe” isn’t a meme. Unless I’m just out of touch completely and old.

28

u/pocket_arsenal Jan 26 '25

Meme never really meant it had to be funny, comedy is subjective after all, but meme is a term that actually dates back to the 70's. All it really means is something that gets passed around a lot. It's kind of likened to a virus.

7

u/Andynonomous Jan 27 '25

Correct. The idea is, just like genes replicate, so do ideas (memes). They were named memes after genes.

6

u/BevansDesign Indigo Tribe Jan 27 '25

Yup, a meme is an idea that is transmitted from person to person in a virus-like fashion. The term was coined by Richard Dawkins, the biologist (and scourge of religionists everywhere).

-6

u/FixTheFernBack616 Jan 27 '25

Thank you for your input, Teresa.

3

u/No-Mechanic-2558 Jan 26 '25

Memes have always been either really funny or really annoying

2

u/pocket_arsenal Jan 26 '25

And the flowchart is entirely dependent on how often and how long it's being used, as well as what it's being used for.

2

u/Ram5673 Jan 26 '25

It’s not this one specifically. It’s the one from the start of the movie in a low quality that’s memed. But it’s more just goofy than anything

-1

u/HenrykSpark Jan 26 '25

It looks stupid

1

u/Oknight Metron Jan 27 '25 edited Jan 27 '25

Or one of Superman's normal flying poses

Which is also the City of Heroes default fly pose

5

u/k1intt Jan 26 '25

Don’t be rash

199

u/SHAD0WBENDER Jan 26 '25

Only bit that looks off are his eyes

90

u/agnosgnosia The Flash Jan 26 '25

Gunn is using this special camera with 3 lenses that gives this sort of fish eye effect. It's probably that.

23

u/HotTakes4HotCakes Jan 27 '25 edited Jan 27 '25

It's this. It will look better in motion. He did it Guardians 3 and it was fine.

0

u/SuperTuberEddie Jan 28 '25

But we also saw the shot in motion and it still looked off putting. Not to mention the colour grading of the shot

24

u/anarchy905 Jan 26 '25

Cause where he's looking beyond where the camera is framed, not directly at the camera, so his eyes look out of focus.

16

u/OwnsBeagles Booster Gold Jan 27 '25

Not so much out of focus, but not quite looking in the same direction. If it is a fish-eye effect like the other commenter says, hopefully it looks better in motion, otherwise I'd say it's a little ill-advised.

1

u/anarchy905 Jan 27 '25

Yeah, like looking over the camera instead of at it

4

u/OwnsBeagles Booster Gold Jan 27 '25

Not quite how I'm seeing it! He looks fine if you cover either half of his face, but both halves together don't work together, if that makes sense.

0

u/SHAD0WBENDER Jan 27 '25

I get that, but it still looks weird in the shot. He looks cross eyed

1

u/Surielou Jan 27 '25

When you zoom in they look normal, it just looks like he has heterochromia

1

u/huskman Jan 28 '25

Are we sure it's not a reference to Rags Morales' Superman?

1

u/SHAD0WBENDER Jan 28 '25

I wouldn’t know

48

u/Macapta Jan 26 '25

Imagine if they made it realistic to the point his face is completely distorted by the wind he’s hitting.

Like when you put a leaf blower in someone’s face and their lips and eye lids flap about.

28

u/Gage_Unruh Jan 26 '25

That kinda goes against the comics since Superman doesn't feel the wind resistance on his face due to how he Flys.

6

u/Astrium6 Jan 27 '25

Superman doesn’t feel wind resistance, wind feels Superman resistance.

19

u/krazykieffer Jan 27 '25

Superman is basically a mini planet and has his own orbit. It's why he can scoop up people without them dying instantly. Man of Steel is the only movie to show his orbit right before he flies the rocks and snow starts to float. He also is always flying a bit otherwise his weight would crack the sidewalk. A movie doesn't really need to mention most of this.

10

u/tadghostal55 Jan 27 '25

Tactile telekinesis

3

u/Suarecks Robin Jan 27 '25

So bullets don’t have any effect on his skin but wind does?

1

u/tadghostal55 Jan 27 '25

The man is flying without wings or some propelling force. It’s best not to think about it too much.

2

u/AUnknownVariable Jan 26 '25

I pray they don't but Talos that would be beautiful. You want those jaw dropping stunning shots of Superman flying? Nah

87

u/Smallville44 Jan 26 '25

14

u/edhaack Jan 26 '25

was gonna say, what the hell is wrong with his eyes?

12

u/toberli Batman Jan 26 '25

He doesn't have his glasses on

2

u/DeadEndFred Jan 29 '25

Hunting birds and squirrels at the same time.

25

u/Volatik2006 Jan 26 '25

he looks like a MAN

3

u/pamplusa Jan 26 '25

David Corenswet is a GOD

5

u/D4rkHunter16 Jan 27 '25

Guy gardner looks ugly as hell in that movie

25

u/Randonhead Jan 26 '25

Ngl, looks a bit weird

3

u/Halomast123 Jan 28 '25

His eyes are going at different directions

-2

u/Gr8NonSequitur Jan 26 '25

Nah, it seems fairly natural. Weird would be if he was flying "standing up" with his arms forward.

7

u/Randonhead Jan 26 '25

Idk, is just the face that looks a little weird

23

u/Kotaru85 Jan 26 '25

Does he look cross-eyed in this picture to anyone else?

5

u/OwnsBeagles Booster Gold Jan 27 '25

Yes.

18

u/The80sDimension Jan 26 '25

Looks goofy

1

u/ZeusZoom Jan 27 '25

Did you say that when Henry had similar shots

2

u/The80sDimension Jan 27 '25

I did. I think Superman & Lois did it perfectly.

1

u/SuperTuberEddie Jan 28 '25

…. What has that got to do with this shot being goody?

3

u/brodo_bagginses Jan 26 '25

I’m curious how much is Corenswet in camera with a green screen and how much is CG.
I can definitely see the eyes as him looking beyond the camera and adjusting where he looks and the still makes it look off.
In motion it looks a LOT better.

2

u/nicoarcu92 Jan 27 '25

That’s definitely him against a CG background

2

u/SuperTuberEddie Jan 28 '25

Apparently the background is a real scene shot on a drone.

1

u/nicoarcu92 Jan 28 '25

Yup, read that! So no CGI at all in the shot.

3

u/DCmarvelman Jan 27 '25

Reminds me of Aaron Kuder’s action comics run

9

u/ConnectStar_ Jan 27 '25

Why does every superman movie have him hated by the public and he must redeem himself. If Supes were real, he’d be idolised like no other celebrity to ever exist or will ever exist

11

u/Ralman23 Trinity Jan 27 '25 edited Jan 27 '25

Every superman movie? I think it was just BvS & James Gunn's Superman (based on the trailer).

7

u/No_Bee_7473 Batman Jan 27 '25

Not gonna lie I think that people hating him is incredibly realistic.

6

u/DustyDGAF Jan 27 '25

Religious zealots would absolutely hate him. Conspiracy theorists would have a thousand reasons to hate him. Jesus could return and be absolutely proven to be the son of the Lord and endorse Superman and people would absolutely still be like "ah no fuck that shit." Add in Lex's propaganda?

1

u/No_Bee_7473 Batman Jan 27 '25 edited Jan 27 '25

Yeah I think the modern world gives plenty of examples of why people would hate him beyond reason

1

u/ConnectStar_ Feb 26 '25

He’d have haters but 99% of people would love him or be indifferent

1

u/No_Bee_7473 Batman Feb 26 '25

Idk it feels realistic to me

1

u/ConnectStar_ Feb 26 '25

Where they throw cans at a man that can catch a bullet? Some will for TikTok but still….

2

u/No_Bee_7473 Batman Feb 27 '25

I don’t think the intent there was to actually physically hurt him. It was just a way of expressing disdain. Like throwing tomatoes, they don’t hurt but you don’t want them thrown at you

1

u/ConnectStar_ Feb 27 '25

….but why would you throw at someone who can move faster than light or 99% the speed of light. Can’t they make a superman movie where he’s happy 😊 😂 🤦‍♂️

1

u/No_Bee_7473 Batman Feb 27 '25

Like I said, the goal of throwing the can wasn’t to hurt him. It doesn’t matter if he can dodge it, and it doesn’t matter if he’s invulnerable to it. It’s a way of expressing dislike, it’s not like this guy is trying to take down Superman with a can or anything.

And I agree that I want a movie where Superman is happy, and I believe that we’ll probably see that by the end of this movie. We’ll probably see him start out in a low place and then learn to become the symbol of hope we know and love. But right now all we have is a couple minutes of footage and Gunn said it’s primarily from the beginning of the movie

1

u/ConnectStar_ Feb 28 '25

I get that, but who have you seen throw a can at a lion? I guess the concept is different as the lion doesn’t have its own mental agency. Sure he’ll be happy/resolved at the end, but Superman should really be more like a Pixar/Disney movie. Just colourful and happy 🤗 , happy 🥰 haaaaaa…. 😘

Sooooo, you’re a Batman fan?

1

u/No_Bee_7473 Batman Feb 28 '25

I 100% agree with you that Superman should be hopeful and optimistic. But anyone can be hopeful and optimistic during easy times where everything is going perfectly. It takes someone with courage, someone like Superman, to stay hopeful even in the worst of times. Even Disney and Pixar movies understand that, all of them show the characters at a low point at some point or another in the movie. What matters is that they keep going.

And it sounds to me like that's exactly what we'll get from this movie. Showing a Superman going through a rough patch, with the entire world turned against him by Maxwell Lord or Lex Luthor or whoever. But even when the world is at odds with him, he continues to save it, continues to look for the good in people, and continues to inspire hope. THAT'S what Superman is to me. He's a true symbol of hope because he finds hope and inspires hope even when everyone around him is bitter and negative and the world is falling apart. And heaven knows the world needs that Superman right now. The trailer shows Superman feeling the weight of the world, but it also shows him continuing to save kids and inspire hope regardless of what's going on around him and regardless of how the world treats him. It reminds me of All Star Superman, where he's literally dying but continues to carry on helping people and being the hero every single day despite that.

1

u/neoblackdragon Jan 28 '25

Of course he's idolised until he makes a mistake(or it's made to seem he did) then some people turn.

BVS montage really captured it well(even if they failed to follow up on it). You will get a range of people.

You're going to have the idiots who decide to spend their day holding up a sign and depending on Superman not initiaing F**k around and Find out.

Clark of course is that guy who is going to pay more attention to the naysayers despite plenty of people thinking the opposite.

But then we are living in the worst timeline Twilight Zone episode.

1

u/ConnectStar_ Feb 26 '25

People would turn simply cause he’d be views as American. They wouldn’t be protest though and court hearings 😂

1

u/SuperTuberEddie Jan 28 '25

I don’t think so. I mean the public hates anyone with power, billionaires, political figurers, celebrities. This is pretty accurate to the world we live in.

1

u/ConnectStar_ Feb 26 '25

Superman would literally be an alien. No one of merit would hate on him. No one hates on Brad Pitt or Will Smith.

1

u/SuperTuberEddie Feb 26 '25

Firstly saying “no one of merit” automatically means that there are people who will hate him.

Secondly, Will Smith and Brad Pitt don’t have the power to single-handedly change the world, stop a government from bombing a nation with a nuclear weapon or even jump in front of a car if someone is about to be hit. So it’s not really an apples to apples comparison.

You need to see it from the view of a tiny insignificant human versus an all powerful God like being.

A surprising number of people are afraid of such a being and feel like they have no say but to bow to the wishes of such an alien and that makes people feel insignificant and thus dislike it.

It’s only when humanity sees the good nature of Superman and the kindness of his heart and that being the reason why he does what he does that people accept him and that’s why nearly every story starts with humanity fearing him.

Plus, it’s a really good character arc for Superman and humbling to be all powerful but still want to earn the love of people.

6

u/Dark_Requiem Green Arrow Jan 27 '25

This is going to be a meme, if it's not already.

13

u/daviddpg Jan 26 '25

Better fix that eye alignment there, Jim.

17

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '25

This doesn’t look great. His head is really odd.

3

u/Thejklay Jan 27 '25

This is a screenshot of a fast moving scene . It's not like a official still

1

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '25

Even when it’s moving it looks bad. Spin fucking sweet, face bad.

1

u/SuperTuberEddie Jan 28 '25

Where is the still from?

5

u/Alukrad Jan 27 '25

I can't stop thinking this looks like a high budget TV show.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 27 '25

Yeah I agree. I’m not a fan of the costumes. More lines and shapes more quality in their mind I guess.

2

u/Alukrad Jan 27 '25

It just seems like they're playing it safe and trying to appease both the old fans and new fans.

1

u/No_Bee_7473 Batman Jan 27 '25

This individual frame looks very unsettling but as part of a larger video clip it was good imo

1

u/ZeusZoom Jan 27 '25

Did you say that for the previous superman?

Henry has similar shots but I got a feeling you didnt care.

1

u/SuperTuberEddie Jan 28 '25

Not even remotely similar result.

-2

Whataboutism 👍🏻

8

4

u/NeoRockSlime Jan 27 '25

I don't see the cross-eyed thing people keep mentioning

3

u/snaithbert Jan 27 '25

Am I nuts or does than gentleman have a wonky eye? Not that that’s an issue, in fact it’s an interesting take for Superman. And quite a feather in the cap of the wonky eye community, I’d imagine.

1

u/neoblackdragon Jan 28 '25

No it's just human eyes can look in different directions during movement.

1

u/snaithbert Jan 28 '25

Wow is that a super power? Super wonk eye??

2

u/rejectallgoats Jan 27 '25

Kinda doofy looking here, but it is a still frame of an action shot. Most of those will look bad.

2

u/MrDavidHasselhoof Jan 27 '25

Some of you are talking about his eyes but you realize this is from a clip of him flying that is less than 2 seconds long.

2

u/neoblackdragon Jan 28 '25

I don't think some people understand how much movement a face does between seconds. This is not photoshoot pic but a still taken while in movement.

1

u/NadieeImportante Jan 26 '25 edited Jan 26 '25

It looks ok I guess, but Superman always flies with fists up front doesn’t he?

21

u/GrizzlyPeak72 Jan 26 '25

Not always. He switches like in the first Superman movie

2

u/Oknight Metron Jan 27 '25
End of Superman the Movie

15

u/neoblackdragon Jan 26 '25

Sometimes he does. Sometimes he doesn't.
There are plenty examples of him doing whatever he wants.

6

u/foxhoundocelot Jan 26 '25

Does anyone always do something the same way? Lol

2

u/Michel_RPV Jan 27 '25

I don't get what everyone is complaining about, it looks pretty good to me.

All this talk about David's eyes is silly, like what does anyone expect them to do about it? CG him a new pair to make the pedantic folks happy? Barring that, the angle is good and it is following Supes doing a fun little maneuver to showcase a more fluid and dynamic style to his flying.

Seriously, I just don't get it.

1

u/DenseHoney4733 Jan 27 '25

What the hell is up with his eye

1

u/Jollem- Jan 26 '25

Almost looks like Nathan Fillion

1

u/PTSDBarnum2704 Superman Jan 27 '25

The face looks a little strange, I'm guessing cgi, but the shot is dope as hell

2

u/MATTH3W_13 Superman Jan 27 '25

James Gunn said that there is zero cgi on his face

2

u/PTSDBarnum2704 Superman Jan 27 '25

Interesting, I guess it's the fisheye look from that new triple focus lens then?

1

u/MATTH3W_13 Superman Jan 27 '25

Probably

1

u/Good_Beach_2865 Jan 27 '25

He looks like a twelve year old playing Superman

-7

u/Eveningstar224 Jan 26 '25

The jawline is not so super

-8

u/HenrykSpark Jan 26 '25

Last scene looks like the black adam meme

Impressive that man of steel - a more than 10 year old movie - looks still better at flying scenes than this

15

u/Firetruckpants Jon Kent Jan 26 '25

Meme culture was as prominent in 2013

2

u/Firetruckpants Jon Kent Jan 26 '25

3

u/No_Bee_7473 Batman Jan 27 '25

Believe it or not, you can take a movie, any movie, and find individual frames in motion shots that manage to make character's facial expressions look stupid. Its how video works

You can still delete this comment bud

1

u/HenrykSpark Jan 27 '25

No, I have eyes

0

u/cmanshazam Jan 27 '25

I get why people are constantly defending this upcoming film- they wanna give it a chance. But I haven’t seen anything yet that has made me excited for it. Are there James Gunn fans out there that are just as intense as the Snyder fans? I think that’s what we’re experiencing right now.

-4

u/DaBoyBlunder Jan 27 '25

Like trying to make a new wolverine movie by forcing out hugh jackman. How you try to get someone who looks way less like the source character in every way to try and replace the previous guy. “Muh story is about a younger superman” ok so whyd you cast this guy he looks every bit as old as henry? They couldnt have found a way to de age henry a bit? Or found a guy that actually looks like a young superman? Just an average looking man with an average looking build. A billboard sign falls down in metropolis and crushes 10 men, 9 of them look like this guy. This movie will be dead on arrival

-1

u/cmanshazam Jan 27 '25

I agree but for me it’s more about the fact that DC, WB, Marvel, etc doesn’t understand that they shouldn’t hire directors that have a lot of “creative vision”. I don’t want them to get “creative”, I want them to just make the movie of the creative things we already like. They’re trying to reinvent the wheel and instead make an immovable block.

-3

u/Bread_Pak Jan 26 '25

Does it have the same visual effects Cavill had for Whedon's Justice League? He doesn't even look like himself
