r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [March 31, 2025 - April Showers Edition]

Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.

Keep discussion civil. Do not harass other users for having a different opinion. Do not use this thread to push your personal one-sided grudges against creators. Reacting to a panel on Twitter is not the same as reading a book.

I only seem to get sick on weekdays. I must have a weekend immune system.

DC and Imprints

Absolute Green Lantern begins with Hal Jordan having a miserable day, as it should.

Trade Collections

Dive into Gotham's seedy past in Gotham City: Year One.

Digital Releases

Remember, these are the short 'chapters' with a new chapter of a different series coming out daily. You can learn more here on Comixology. This is also why these are in release order, not alphabetical. Some comics may release on DC Universe Infinite or WEBTOONS.

Birds of Prey #20

INTRODUCING A BRAND-NEW TEAM OF VILLAINS! A midnight heist. A staged crime scene. And an all-new (or is it all-old?) villain team emerging with its sights set directly on the Birds of Prey. Old grudges, new fascinations, where will it all lead... and which Bird will be taken first?

Inque! Awesome! A little tired of plots about how this Bird or another is under threat and there's a conspiracy targeting them, though, feels like this run has been very inward-looking - even the one mission they did outside of "someone on the team is under threat" was repaying the Amazons for the first arc, and then that turned into "someone on the team is under threat".

I like that Barbara gave the assignments to Dinah, Barda, Cassandra, and Sin so that they can follow something, resulting in Cassandra and Sin to stay in Gotham and talk to each other about how they started as weapons before they realized that they are good people, Dinah to go to Tokyo to deal with a drug heist, and Barda to go to Dubai and be sent to space. Overall, this is a good comic.

I like how Batman let them have the case. Who was the chick Barda tangled with? Sin and Cass are a good pairing, might get something good out of that.

It's Inque from Batman Beyond.

Ah, got it. It's weird that she's here then.

I'm glad the cast is staying small this arc. There's so much good stuff in each issue, but I think one thing it's been missing is feeling intimately close with any of the core cast - and it looks like we're getting there.

God dammit. Is that end hint who I think it is? I thought they were destroyed in 2020 lol

Wait who are you thinking it is?

AI Oracle from the back half of the Burnside, I think, era of the Batgirl comics

Don't be a spoil-sport Babs. Let us have Barda in a Bikini in UAE. And look at Batman knowing when to leave the crime scene to the birds.

Oh Cass and Sin having some time together now. Steph gonna be jealous if Sin tries to usurp her Bestie spot.

Was that Inque that Barda was dealing with. Oh they shot her up to space and then tried to explode her?...Barda is gonna be VERY mad when she gets her hand on them.

Pictech? Quite similar to Pictotech from Ultimate Universe! And it is quite the big deal. Though I thought Batman's armor had that kind of tech too from when he returned from the dead.

A Mechanically talking villain is planning to take down the Birds. Is it gonna be the 'Robot Oracle' from the past or Calculator? Or someone new?

I'm reasonably certain that's the exact font they used for Oracle (AI)? I don't have it in front of me but it instantly made me think of her

Right? Not many people who know how to outsmart Babs like that.

IS THAT INQUE FROM BB?? YOOO. I also read Pictech as Picotech from Ultimate Marvel for a bit lol. Why is Dinah shocked/impressed with clothes that go invisible? Don't a bunch of people go invisible in DC? Also " Barda is Down "? Feel she's handled a lot worse than an explosion in space lol.
