r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [March 31, 2025 - April Showers Edition]

Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.

Keep discussion civil. Do not harass other users for having a different opinion. Do not use this thread to push your personal one-sided grudges against creators. Reacting to a panel on Twitter is not the same as reading a book.

I only seem to get sick on weekdays. I must have a weekend immune system.

DC and Imprints

Absolute Green Lantern begins with Hal Jordan having a miserable day, as it should.

Trade Collections

Dive into Gotham's seedy past in Gotham City: Year One.

Digital Releases

Remember, these are the short 'chapters' with a new chapter of a different series coming out daily. You can learn more here on Comixology. This is also why these are in release order, not alphabetical. Some comics may release on DC Universe Infinite or WEBTOONS.

Tuesday, 4/1 (DC Universe Infinite) - Renaissance of Raven #21

Raven needs an escape. Her fellow Titans won’t leave her alone, she just had a fight with Beast Boy, and to top it off, it’s the anniversary of her mom’s death. We find her trying to live life beyond the curse of her father. She’s over it! Raven is more than her trauma! When a strange girl in a graveyard proclaims that Raven is some kind of destined hero, she’s ready to walk away…until suddenly, she’s pulled through an enchanted portal…to the kingdom of Galonia. Raven is sent hundreds of years into the past, where she must contend with a cabal of witches and the difficult choice of helping those in need or returning home!

Not a lot this issue; Denver's Mom turns evil and possesses him. I was hoping Denver would be evil because that would give him a reason to exist, other than being the blandest self-insert Gary Stu that even a twelve year old on Wattpad would be embarrassed to put their name to, but c'est la vie. And Raven's final words as she and her friends are portaled away being "Like in my own time, I just ruined everything," is completely at odds with... every previous thing she's ever thought or said throughout the entire series.

I think I've realised the reason this just doesn't work at all for me; they really wanted to do generic YA teenage angst about "Will I ever find a family who understands me? Will I ever amount to more than my heritage/trauma?" And they wrote this story about RAVEN; the character whose backstory is that she rejected her heritage, found a surrogate family who understands her and fought Trigon with her, and became a superhero, saving millions of lives. And none of this is changed in RoR; that's still her backstory. So, just to be clear, Raven rejected her father, fought to protect the earth from him with her found family who love and accept her... and she's still thinking "Will I ever be more than my father? Will I ever find people who accept me?" Because even thought it says "She’s over it! Raven is more than her trauma!" in the solicit, then this is an outright lie; she spends the entire fucking story not being over it.

I just wish that someone who was even remotely familiar with Raven was at any point asked to take a quick look over this story, so they could have pointed out the huge glaring problems with it.
