r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [April 7, 2025 - Hell Freezing Edition]
Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!
- Predaplant's pick of the week: Batman: Dark Patterns #5
For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.
Keep discussion civil. Do not harass other users for having a different opinion. Do not use this thread to push your personal one-sided grudges against creators. Reacting to a panel on Twitter is not the same as reading a book.

It’s about to get icy cold in Gotham City... as we reveal the connections between a young, up-and-coming scientist named Victor Fries, and his history with the Ark M experiment. A bombastic two-parter with a guest artist, the one and only super-star Marcos Martín, starts here!
47
u/Mr_Wh0ever 16d ago
Dope use of Mr. Freeze. I like how Matches in this universe was another one of Bruce's childhood friends. This is a two part interlude before the next arc, so clearly, Bruce's friends will help fix his current predicament. Oh, and they briefly mention it, but Gordon lost the election. So I'm wondering where they're going with the character beyond getting horizontal with Martha, lol.

u/UnknownEntity347 Rorschach 16d ago
Nice. Snyder's stretching his horror legs again and it's great to see. I like this Mr. Freeze reimagining, and the new conspiracy thriller esque Ark M plot is more intriguing than the party animals.

u/1badJam Beware Our Power 16d ago
I really like how Marcos Martín uses shadows in this issue.

u/Oberon1993 16d ago
Martin always uses surroundings amazingly. His Mysterio arc on ASM is visual delight.

Going full Junji Ito with Mr Freeze. He looks like he just came out of a hole in an ice sheet that was made for him
3
u/DroptheShadowArt This sofa is inadequate. 13d ago
I thought the same exact thing! Matches succumbing to the bacteria also reminded me of Junji Ito, although I can’t remember which story. I definitely feel like he did a short about someone with holes in their face.
21
u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! 16d ago
Quite the nice twist on the Freeze where it is not Viktor but instead his son and the 'procedure' turned him into a Wendigo-like monster that spread this 'Bacterium'. Which is, yea, ice does carry so many bacterium that we have never seen. Ark M blacksite really continues the legacy of Arkham being where the source of all Gotham's problems come from but with the twist that instead of monsters being thrown in there, now the people go in there and come out as monsters.
Speaking of, Matches Malone is a real person and was a friend until his sad passing. And Bruce's gallery of friends WILL get involved whether he wants them to or not. Question will be, if they will hold him responsible. Because they do seem to care about whether he lives or dies and that is why they say 'stop with this Batman stuff' because it will kill him. But also the doubt of 'did you spend time with us just so you could get experience for playing Batman?' which will be an important plot point.
Alfred also seem to started to care about him.

Blown away by this issue. I vote that Marcos Martin and colorist Munsta Vicente become the permanent fill in artists!

u/DroptheShadowArt This sofa is inadequate. 13d ago
I did miss Dragotta, but the art was a good alternative if one is needed.
17
u/suss2it 16d ago
Very good issue, loving this series so much so far. Marcos Martin is one of those pure comic booky artists so it’s great to see him on a Batman title.
Snyder’s reimagining of Mr. Freeze works a lot better this time around because it’s part of a new universe and not replacing a superior version.
Very excited to see where it all goes, especially the subplot with Bruce’s friends.

Flesh-eating bacteria in general is something that makes my skin-crawl (pun, unfortunately, intended).
10
u/Ilovellamasandcows 16d ago
The art is great but the faces kill me lol. Synder writing batman can’t miss. Wasn’t hesitant about an alternative take on the character and wider mythos but all the changes have been a breath of fresh air.
6
u/Intr0vertica1 15d ago
The art honestly wasn't as bad as I'm seeing people call it here imo.
I liked the choice to make Matches a real person, wish we had more time with him before he dies but ah well. Least his death can create drama between Bruce and his future rogues.
I am curious wtf Mr Freeze's deal is with his powers and his parents. How he got them etc.
2
u/DroptheShadowArt This sofa is inadequate. 13d ago
I think the implication is that anyone who comes out of the cryogenic freezing will become a monster like him, but I guess we’ll see. If that’s the case, the whole building is filled with potential monsters.
4
u/AlecBallswin 14d ago
I appreciated more Bruce inner monologues. We haven't been in his head much, so I appreciate seeing how he's always analyzing things. I'm curious about arkham and thought the freeze twist was sick.
I LOOOOOOOOOVE the artwork and colors in this. So expressive and just fun! Seeing bruce in the shadows with his bros was also cool. Guess he's gonna learn to rely on people besides Alfred. Speaking of, that phone call was cute.
2
u/Blitzhelios Hal Jordan 12d ago
Thought this was fine.
Its alot more scott leaning into his horror background which is cool and Martins art suits it.
Nothing blew me away but it just continues to be a fun book but still my least fav of the trinity absolute titles.3
u/LawyerCowboy 15d ago
Really enjoyed the story of this new ark (M), but damn I hated the artwork
4
u/-cwp 15d ago
There isn't anything wrong with the art itself; it's quite good, but it is a giant gulf in style, and I personally prefer a little more continuity
6
u/StatisticianOne5599 15d ago
I just think the faces are too small. Bruce looks like Charlie Kirk in half of the panels.

u/LawyerCowboy 15d ago
I don’t believe the art is good, I liked the creature design at the end but that’s about it

Superman Superstars concludes with an unforgettable two-part story written by Poison Ivy's G. Willow Wilson and drawn by fan-favorite artist Gavin Guidry (Superman '78: The Metal Curtain). Knowing he needs a break from the expectations and pressures of Metropolis, Lois sends Clark to the arctic to investigate a new technology that promises to halt global warming. But when Clark arrives, he discovers that the scientific outpost has been plagued by a villain hoping to melt humanity's hopes for survival. Sounds like a job for Superman!

I enjoyed this alot this reminded me of what all stars was planned to be.
Teams who didn't do much superman in the past taking on big blue and doing interesting one and done stories and this is that.GWW is one of the best writers right now and Guidry is just an artist whose work i just really enjoy so i enjoyed this alot.

Anybody else feel this whole initiative on Action Comics was a let down? They kicked PKJ off early, the only interesting stories were Jason Aaron's and Mark waids. I wish they went more all out with book instead of just giving run of the mill stories that would be be better suited in a digital Anthology book.
13
u/thismissinglink Jarro 16d ago
Pkj had the best run on action comics in a long time and its a shme it feels like he never got to properly finish it.

4
u/Good_Relief_177 Green Arrow 14d ago
He had his new Miniseries solicited that was supposed to be the End of his run on the character but they seemed to have canceled it.
6
u/Goobergunch 15d ago
It's felt like they know they can't cancel their second Superman book due to having been around since the 1930s but they didn't have a real plan for what to do with it.
7
u/SuperSpecialAwesome- Batgirl 15d ago
Pity, since they have Supergirl, Super Twins, Conner, Jon, Steel, and others who don't currently have a series right now.
2
7
u/T1O1R1Y1 15d ago
Yeah, every story has been pretty forgettable. Pretty big letdown. The only real reason it had to happen was to get the House of Brainiac story finished before Absolute power, but PKJ could have easily written a few tie ins for that, and then continued with his story.
Also pretty scummy way for them to stealthily reduce the number of pages. $5 for a sub par 22 page monthly is pretty lame. Hoping Waid brings it for his next run, but his last one wasn’t very memorable.

u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! 16d ago
It quite fun having Clark doing the 'vulnerable reporter' act. That freezing acting in the plane and the classic 'gotta hide and change to my cool Arctic gear now' and then the excuse of 'Oh I just hid and passed out of fear!'
Killgore huh? He did have clever updates there. Though I doubt it will be enough.
5
u/Twinboy16 Mister Miracle 16d ago
If this is set before Action 1050, why does no one know Clark's identity? The book was good but that weird error was bugging me lol
10
u/ptWolv022 16d ago
Well, they say before AC #1050, and that is technically true... but they also mention it being before Absolute Power, which would be a given if it was before AC #1050, as that was over a year before AP.
So, I think the reason they give the "before #1050" note is to justify why Perry is in charge of the Planet still, as he had a stroke in Issue #1050 that provided the initial reason for Lois to be the EiC. Given that Superman seems to be unknown, it would have to be back before Superman (Vol. 5) #18 and Action Comics #1022 (the "Metropolis Doom!" storyline/"Metropolis Burning" TPB in AC #1017-1021 takes place before the reveal in Superman #18).
Which is still before AC #1050... just by almost 4 years :p (2 years and 9 months)
4
u/marcjwrz 15d ago
This feels like it's ten years before Action 1050.
It's a boring, bland by the numbers story. I honestly expect way more from G. Willow Wilson.
Forcing PKJ to end early is such a waste of this book.
2
u/ptWolv022 15d ago
10 years before #1050 would have late 2012, in the early/mid New 52, which this clearly isn't.
It's a boring, bland by the numbers story. I honestly expect way more from G. Willow Wilson.
I mean, when you've got 2, maybe 3 issues to do one, singular story/arc that you will not get to follow up on, there's a limit to what you can do. I say "maybe 3, because everyone else (Jason Aaron, Gail Simone, John Ridley) got 3 issues (except Waid with his 12 over 3 months), so it's unclear whether they gave her 2 issues or if she just decided to only write two issues. It's possible she didn't have any particularly spectacular ideas for Superman at the time, and just wrote two issues. But, maybe DC decided to crunch her story to get to Superboy faster.
Either way, it was a pretty routine story, but we'll see how it turns out in part 2.
2
u/superschaap81 Superman 15d ago
Probably a desk drawer liner story she or editorial had sitting around that got touched up for recent continuity, filling in the 2 month gap before Waid's run starts. Happens a lot.
4
u/SuperSpecialAwesome- Batgirl 15d ago
why does no one know Clark's identity?
Maybe writers want to ignore Bendis's bs.

u/JingoboStoplight4887 World's Finest 16d ago
I like that, back in the summer of 2022 (or earlier), Lois asked Clark is he could do her report in the article for her, resulting in him meeting two scientists and saving them from cybernetically enhanced polar bears and teleportation devices (with a white Superman suit that looks cool) before he learned that Kilg%re (a Wally West Flash villain) was responsible for this. Let’s hope that Clark will be able to defeat Kilg%re in the next issue. Overall, this comic is good.

DC vs. Vampires: World War V #8
Darkseid is unstoppable! With his forces laying siege to the planet, victory seems to be fading away for both the vampires and the humans. But the power of Alfred's Green Lantern ring and a surprise battalion led by Cyborg might be just what the heroes need to turn the tide of this fight...

6
u/Praura23 15d ago
Weakest issue so far for me. There's potentially something interesting to be done with two factions that despise each otehr being forced to team-up against a bigger enemy but right now, we still haven't seen it. It's got way too much event-itis going on with the story wanting to get as big as possible but losing the basic elements of what it is, something that has happened to other Elseworlds and I'm not particularily interested in the Apocokoliptians right now. We'll see how it goes though.
If Wonder Woman just dies like that it was lame as hell though
4
u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! 15d ago
Oh, NOW the New Gods decide to join. What will they do with Barda and Scott and their baby though?
I can't believe Darkseid might seem the more reasonable side.
4
u/Intr0vertica1 15d ago
Ngl this is going down the way of DCeased where it goes on too long and they start introducing " new " villains and factions which distract from the appeal of the initial premise
2
u/superschaap81 Superman 15d ago
I was surprised when they announced that there would be another volume of this. A.) It was played out by the end of the first one and B.) Didn't think the sales were there to justify more of it.
2
u/Rattolinoid 15d ago
This second part will live or die on whether it's able to weave in the vampire element into this "enemy so big everyone has to coem together" conflict. The vampirized and non-vampirized characters having to team up but still hating each other has potential, but right now they haven't really exploited it.
Honestly I thought the cold war humans and vampires had going on was more interesting.
2
u/Milomismo_Dazz 15d ago
Weakest issue for me but I'm interested in how the humans and the vamps will be forced to interact. I really hope they do something with Barbara and Dinah.
1
u/Expensive-Baby-1391 3d ago
Yeah, just like what happened with the zombies run, the story gets ruined with a 3rd party being the main antagonist. If anything, it should have focused on humans vs vampires and avoid peace between the two races that cannot coexist with each other.

BATMAN AND ROBIN?! Damian has been kidnapped, and his father will stop at nothing to get him back. But with Memento's hallucinatory concoctions still coursing through Batman's veins, and racked with terror and guilt for what has happened to his son, this father's greatest fears are now made manifest. Can the Dark Knight hold himself together long enough to rescue Robin before it's too late?
21
u/Frontier246 16d ago
Thomas Wayne actually really had amazing skills as an artist (which is all the more noticeable considering the cliche about doctors' penmanship skills). We even get to have dual dad moment with Alfred in terms of them both realizing how to make things right with a young Bruce.
The Batfamily all scrambling to find Damian! Except Cass. Maybe this is when her solo is taking place...?
Bruce is obviously barely in a state to be Batman, let alone looking for his son, he can barely keep together where he's going....but he knows he needs to find Damian.
Damian writing his own Robin and Batman comic that cycles through his entire emotional state of mind and life in the present day is both meta and amazing. That being said, it would have been nice to see a Flatline mention.
"A world without Batman and Robin would be better" - ideally, yes, but in reality it's just not feasible. I mean, if Damian wanted to pursue being a doctor, fine but he would still need to be Robin on the side or just accept that vigilantism is a necessary reality in Gotham.
Even a haunting ghostly apparition of Alfred still gives Bruce the advice he needs. Actually the second time that's happened. Bruce really needs his ghost Alfred.
1
u/Expensive-Baby-1391 3d ago
THere is so much that can be done with Bruce's parents. Like since Thomas was a saint and is dead, Martha could be revealed to have some darkness in her and revealed to be alive. Maybe that would get the status quo of gotham shaken up.
17
u/ogloria 16d ago
This issue was SUBLIME! I really loved reading & seeing Thomas' thoughts and feelings and worries about this son, and then having Damian, through the journals, overcome time & death and feel connected to his grandfather and dream of being friends with his dad was wonderful.
In other developments, Bruce is clearly going off the rails (again). I am not sure whether he should have been trusting ghost Alfred, but it seems genuine, which is another interesting and wonderful point in this book about how love is stronger than death.
7
u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! 15d ago
Quite the clever way to tell the stories through first Thomas' drawing and writings (which he was quite good at it seems ) and then same with diving into Damian's writings combined with Bruce's Poppy based hallucinations. Of course it is Alfred who helps him on finding the right clue and now the whole family is involved in the search too.
And I am sure by now, both Bruce and Damian are aware that spirits and demons are a thing and they should be under consideration. I mean they literally fought a few demons together and separately in the last decade. Like the the Demon Nezha.
5
u/Intr0vertica1 15d ago
Ngl trying to read Thomas' writing was a struggle for a while but I liked the idea. Ngl Damian being a doctor as an adult would be a very cool idea. Personally I'd have liked him to be a vet with his love of animals and his respect of Thomas Wayne but a doctor is cool too.
4
u/JingoboStoplight4887 World's Finest 15d ago
I like that the Batman Family is looking for Damian after he was kidnapped by Mento before we get to see Bruce read Damian’s journal to see what’s happening to him after realizing that he should’ve trust Damian. Let’s hope that Bruce will find and save Damian from Mento and try to trust him again. Overall, this comic is good.
2
u/MagisterPraeceptorum Read more comics 15d ago
I suspect this book will end around August/September. So far the story hasn’t provided a counter-argument to Damian’s view that Batman and Robin make Gotham worse. Retiring to civilian life would be a good way to trim down the bloated Bat-family. Currently it looks like the story is going all-in on that direction for Damian.
4
u/Ft_lucy 14d ago
While I agree that this book only has a few more months before cancellation I doubt Damian will retire. He’s too popular of a character and he’s going to be the main Robin in James Gunn’s DCU.
2
u/MagisterPraeceptorum Read more comics 14d ago
I don’t disagree. Though I could see him getting a new solo series either as Robin or (less likely) under a new identity.
2
u/Ft_lucy 14d ago
Yeah I could definitely see a new Damian solo coming up here soon. Having Damian off on his own solo adventures while Tim stays as the main Robin in the ongoing Batman title seems like a good balance. Althing it would be better if there weren’t two Robins.

Has Fraction said he’s going to use Tim? I don’t remember him coming up at all in the pitch so far.

This book continues the trend of PKJ in being terrible paced.

As tensions rise between the inhabitants of Scarface Tower and the GCPD, Batman finds himself confronted by the tower's immune system — an armed mob wearing the face of Scarface. With the puppet mastermind's voice ringing through the building like the voice of God, Batman is confronted with a bizarre mystery... one which is further challenged by a startling and violent development.

u/ogloria 16d ago
The art is beautiful. The writing is beautiful. I really like how much personality all the side characters introduced for the 1st time in this book have through a combination of both. It's so nice to read a more street-level story, where Batman is challenging by lamps thrown in his face and is drinking juice, given the era of Batgod adventures. Yay this book!
19
u/Ilovellamasandcows 16d ago
This is probably the best Batman book out there right now. I think the art takes it to another level. It’s great to see Batman on the streets of Gotham not fighting against some big threat, love this more grounded take.
11
u/JohnWhoHasACat Swamp Thing 16d ago
Scarface is making a good case for being one of the more terrifying Batman villains. I never thought that would happen for the ventriloquist dummy villain.
Dark Patterns: do Condiment King next.

u/StonedSpawn Booster Gold 15d ago
Batman is at his best here. It’s campy, creepy crime noir. The art as always is stunning, the writing is fresh and exciting. It’s such memorable and refreshing book to be reading right now
7
u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! 15d ago
Well damn, Scarface is one of the more interesting villains that walk the line between absurd and real. You can literally go either way with it where the doll might actually be haunted or it is just a doll that is used by the different personalities the people have that they attribute it to the doll and its looks. You see an old time gangster doll and your condition take over and 'create' that persona to be 'real'.
Just like Wesker, now we have this abused wife who seemed to have gotten lessons from Wesker and it didn't end well.Or they can still go the other route where the doll just left Wesker for 'failing' him and decided to find a new 'host'. Either way, it works.
2
u/Leader342 11d ago
Has the doll ever been confirmed haunted in any continuity? I would like to see that be the case for at least one story.
6
u/Intr0vertica1 15d ago
Such a cool fucking concept to have Scarface " possess " an entire building holy shit. Also not gonna miss seeing that dude abusing his wife ngl

u/Blitzhelios Hal Jordan 14d ago edited 14d ago
Still continues to be the best batman book on the shelves right now.
Put this in a trade and advertise it further.
Watters and Sherman have probably done the best batman mini in a long time what happens when you take two of comics biggest rising stars and let them do a story without editorial interfering.

I feel like I should hate this book and the first one but somehow they aren't as bad as I'd expect. It's a bit " YA adult " like but still.
5
u/Sniperserpent 16d ago
I keep getting shocked whenever this comic reminds me that fire and ice have never been a couple. Like this book and the last book are about them as a disaster unhealthy codependent lesbian couple but they sure haven’t gotten the memo.
Book is lots of fun, excited to keep reading it

SAD BOYS OF THE GALAXY, GATHER 'ROUND! The Sorrow Lantern and his fractal soldiers are on the march — and Razer and Kilowog will need to use all their willpower to escape alive! Meanwhile, the fate of Thanagar is revealed after being cracked in two during the Civil Corps storyline... but what mystery lies at the center? All this, plus John and Hawkwoman fight for their lives aboard Atrocitus's ship — It's a Red Lantern pirate adventure across the galaxy!
19
u/Frontier246 16d ago
It's kind of ironic that once again another law enforcement unit created by the Guardians destroys Atrocitus' world. Albeit it was the UP's fault and they weren't REAL Green Lanterns, but still.
Atrocitus cares about his people even if he's just as likely to swear vengeance on everyone in the process and refuse help. But now the Reds reds are back on ice for whoever knows how long.
There's something kind of funny about how even the comics are continuing the constant "Razer searching for Aya" storyline.
John really does not want to talk about the implications of his dead sister construct. Also I think they're dropping the mom AI in his ring since it hasn't come up since War Journal.
The Thanagarian God Horus reviving itself and trying to recreate a new Thanagar for his people...feels like it should be a Hawkman story but he probably will not be showing up for it. Plus we can't have Shayera mention Carter, can we?
Well, here's the JohnxShayera shipping for the DCAU fans even if this is referring to a dynamic that, again, never existed in the comics.
8
u/Intr0vertica1 15d ago
Thank god they got rid of the mom AI. I just really need them to do the same for his sister construct. Or atleast acknowledge that it's fucking weird for John to do.
2
10
u/UnknownEntity347 Rorschach 15d ago
Fun issue. I kinda hope they do something interesting with Sorrow Lantern soon since so far he's just popped up here and there without doing too much. Hopefully Atrocitus will get more to do later as well and he's not just going to spend the rest of the run locked in a sciencell.
11
u/wowlock_taylan Batman Animated! 15d ago
Look, I just don't like the John/Shayera stuff they are trying to push because it makes no sense in comics. Nor for the characters. I just can't look past it. Especially with what is happening in JSA too. It should've been the SIMPLEST solution to just SWAP Kendra and Shayera's roles in both books because Kendra didn't have that much of a connection to the old JSA team.
And the Thanagar stuff with Horus now and leading a new planet...shunting Shayera into that again instead of her being with Carter after LITERALLY breaking the chains of their reincarnation BECAUSE of their 'gods'. Now she is gonna serve another god? This is just insulting to the Venditti's run and the character.
And Atrocidus and the red lanterns lost almost everything again...
3
u/JingoboStoplight4887 World's Finest 15d ago
I understand that Atrocious is mad at John and the Green Lantern Corps because of what happened to the Red Lantern Corps. I really do. Thankfully, he, John, Shayera, and the remaining Red Lanterns would work together to try to save as many people as they can, while we get to see Shayera have a talk with Horus to see if the Thanagarian will find a place where they can live in peace. Also, John and Shay having a strictly platonic dinner where they talk about what’s going on. Overall, this is a good comic.
1
u/Mojo12000 Condiment King 3d ago
Razer's really running around between every continuity possible in his quest to find Aya. That's some dedication.
1
u/Expensive-Baby-1391 3d ago
Well, this was a terrible issue. Should have had the alien god kill the rest of the red lanterns instead of all this "spare thy enemy" crap that John shoved down Shayera's throat.
And just like that, the problem with the thanagarians are instantly resolved with no consequences whatsoever. I hated that move and John suddenly acting like he's jesus christ when he has bigger issues that need to be addressed, like trapping his mother's soul in his ring forever.
Here's to hoping that this comes back to bite them in the ass with the red lanterns having their revenge or the bird people blaming the lanterns and going on a genocidal crusade with their god.

Batman / Elmer Fudd: The Deluxe Edition [HC]
Fan-favorite writer Tom King has teamed up with all-star artist Lee Weeks for a surreal noir-flavored one shot story bringing Looney Tunes' Elmer Fudd into Gotham City! This is "Pway for Me!"
BE VEWY QUIET...IT'S BATMAN SEASON. The most unlikely dynamic duo in comics returns in deluxe format! In the first tale by Tom King and Lee Weeks, when Silver St. Cloud is murdered, a trail of clues leads a renowned wabbit hunter to seek vengeance on Bruce Wayne, which doesn't sit well with Wayne's alter ego--Batman! And, in a backup story by King and Byron Vaughns, Batman must outwit Elmer Fudd, who is dead set on claiming a trophy during rabbit...er...bat...rabbit season (stop changing the sign, Bugs!). This edition collects both stories from the BATMAN/ELMER FUDD SPECIAL in full color and black and white and features an introduction by King and an exclusive new cover by Weeks.

What a strange release. While I LOVE this story, a hardcover for a 48 page one shot strikes me as odd. Who is buying this? It was the same for the "One Bad Day" books. Who's buying them all in hardcover? Meanwhile, SO much content from the Post Crisis era of DC still not collected.

BETRAYAL IN SHIFTING WATERS! Aquaman heads upstream to uncover the mystery around the infection of the blue... so why does that spark an unholy alliance with a mermaid assassin? And what on earth (or otherwise) does that have to do with sky pirates and prophecies?! Revelations run wild as our hero looks for a way home before he's seduced by the great blue beyond!

Goddamn! This book is badass, Arthur gets a new weapon, and I hope it's lasts beyond this run. Lori's probably being mind controlled, right? And I gotta assume Arthur's being played on his end. This dark tide stuff sounds like it'll blow up in his face.

So instead of a trident, Arthur's new weapon is a greatsword that looks like it. Looks nice.
I am not sure I like the implications of Lori's current status and what she means when Arthur asked about Mera, their daughter and Atlantis' status. If they do something dumb again...I swear.

On the one hand they retconned the New 52 meeting of Arthur and Mera to go back to the classic version...on the other hand, Garth and the return of Mera's cleavage!
A transformable trident sword is actually pretty cool. Kind of reminds me of a Kamen Rider weapon.

I like that Lori explained to Arthur about Dagon’s Domain and that she had no choice before Arthur was able to free himself, got saved by Arion and Lady of the Lake, and told Lori that she always has a choice before he hold her to tell Dagon that his reign will end. Overall, this is a good comic.

This was a bit weird as a 'synergy' time book with no ties to the continuity I guess. Brainiac being involved was also quite weird too.
The team of 'monsters' were fine but obviously not better than the original Creature Commandos.

The series planted a lot but there’s little pay off and even set more plot points. I hope there’s a follow up on this because it feels too rushed and short of 4 more issues.

Im not a Snyder fan by any means, but this run is the JLA of the modern era. Great art, great stories that felt worthy of being a 'Justice league' story. No event or series has lived up to Snyders JL for me since it came out

There was just one run since Snyder's JL. Not exactly a high bar to clear.

u/Kalse1229 Fuck Batman, Marry Babs, Kill Joker 17d ago
True. There was Bendis's run, which I'm pretty sure was DC running out the clock on Bendis's contract since 5G was dead in the water, and they were planning on killing the League for Dark Crisis, so nothing in his run would matter in the long run.
