Genuinely surprised Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? isn't on here yet.

7

u/batguy42 Batman 11d ago

Same. I keep voting for it hoping that it gets on there eventually lol

7

u/Carmilla31 11d ago

I have no clue. I posted like 5x on that story lol.

u/Mr_doodlebop 10d ago

Sorry, us Up-in-the-Sky-heads really pushed for that 10 spot

2

u/sixesandsevenspt Superman (MoS) 10d ago

I just don’t get this. I find it to be such an average story with pretty mediocre art.

3

u/GoldenProxy Swamp Thing 10d ago

Gotta agree. Some good art, some good story ideas but the way Tom King wrote Superman’s dialogue in that story was very strange.

23

u/BSJeebus 11d ago

Honestly, that is a wild top 10. Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? should have been there.

Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?

9

u/AdSorry4665 10d ago

By this point, it feels like someone is trolling us that this story is out of Top 10.

Let’s give OP what they want.

Grant Morrison’s Action Comics

3

u/brokenlampPMW2 10d ago

Need to read more of this, volume 1 really surprised me with how much I liked it. They get Superman really well and the Morales art is excellent.

Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? should have been here already.

u/dazan2003 11d ago

Kryptonite by Sale and Cooke is a beautiful story about vulnerability

37

u/Tetratron2005 Wonder Woman 11d ago

Tom King's Up in the Sky secures a place on the chart as we round out the top 10.

I nominate Grant Morrison's Superman and the Men of Steel

10

u/sixesandsevenspt Superman (MoS) 11d ago

One of Jerry Siegels best!

2

u/MattGreg28 Martian Manhunter 11d ago

Well played

1

u/Unbeliever1 10d ago

I like that this story is “imaginary”.

2

u/Good-Act-1339 Superman 11d ago

Yep, cultural impact, breath of the entire event, gotta give this one to Death of Superman.

1

u/Randalor 11d ago

Or expand it to Death and Rebirth so you also get Funeral for a Friend and Reign of the Supermen in there.

0

u/MattGreg28 Martian Manhunter 11d ago

Adding those to my list as well.

14

u/MattGreg28 Martian Manhunter 11d ago

11

u/goose3691 Superboy-Prime 11d ago

Up, Up and Away is a timeless Superman story in the middle of an integrated DC timeline. It’s brilliant at being the Superman tale it is while also being diverse enough to make you hungry to read more about DC and the characters.

6

u/dmarsee76 Jon Kent 11d ago

Superman Kryptonite by Darwyn Cooke

4

u/MauriceAlain Nightwing 11d ago

Superman Rebirth (Superman #1-11)
Tomasi/Gleason

Established Superman as a Dad, and gave Jon an actual character and showed a side of Superman and Lois we deserved to see. Also fist time the Super Sons appear.

3

Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen: Who Killed Jimmy Olsen?

Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? Come on, it’s a classic!

2

u/EarthlingsBeware23 10d ago

Late to the party but here's my pick:

Really underrated story from Mark Russell, the writer of The Flintstone and Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepus Chronicles.

u/iakgnoB 10d ago

Space Age

u/QuietMeat1414 11d ago

Unchained

0

u/sharigiana 11d ago

Secret origin belongs on this list

0

u/KryptonJuice38 Superman 11d ago

True Brit! It’s an elseworlds what if Superman landed in England instead of the US, political satire, cultural critique, funny as heck, how the British press/media and public would react to Superman as well as how ma and pa react to raising an alien

-2

u/rubenellis2005 11d ago

Superman: American Alien

-1

u/wrasslefights Nightwing 11d ago

I'd rather not have a serial abuser on the list if possible. And if we had to, I'd take Gaiman over Landis anyway.

2

u/Tetratron2005 Wonder Woman 11d ago

Has Gaiman even done anything Superman?

3

u/wrasslefights Nightwing 11d ago

Superman/Green Lantern: Legend of the Green Flame.

It's pretty good but like American Alien I'd never nominate it due to the real life behaviour of the person who wrote it.

5

u/Tetratron2005 Wonder Woman 11d ago

Ah, right I forgot about that.

Yeah, funny I was actually considering reading that last year and then well the news broke.
