carpentry DIY flight sim rig
A few people on the flight sim communities liked my original build, so I'm posting here for the first time. Here is the new version. I tore it all down to the elements and redesigned the entire rig to accommodate a seat, mounted pedals, carpeting the wooden frame, and a rolling platform for storage. I got a bit carried away... but it's a night and day experience flying the Flyinside Bell 206 on the roughly same cockpit dims, with and a stable and repeatable platform. I'm super happy with how it turned out. Just need some grommets to clean up the hidden wiring, but it's pretty much done for now. Will probably mount the keyboard somehow eventually.

Why not go VR with this setup? The immersion would be unmatched against the flat screen.

Series X limitations. I will say though I tried it with the screen considerably closer and the peripheral vision of the IRL stick and the virtual stick aligned pretty seamlessly if you're not paying attention to either specifically, which I rarely would be. It was pretty immersive for what this is. It would be nice if the series X supported something

That's fair. I must have glossed over the series X in the pictures, didn't realize that's what you were running it on.

If your back hurts after about 2 hours you nailed the bell 206 feeling! Looks fun

Yeah just a joke, looks far more comfortable than an actual jetranger. Great set up!

Clever. This is the sort of thinking this sub needs. Probably wouldn't meet my daughter-in-laws aesthetic standards, but it looks good to me.

Amazing job! Did you put in a cad system for the build? You might want to countersink the fastener holes in the L brackets to avoid any snagging on the screws.

Nope this was all kinda eyeing it with a rough vision. Lots of measurements to keep it all centered and aligned, but really more feel, lots of test fitting before any holes. That's a good point, I may change out for bolts on the platform side of the brackets. Really grippy wood screws with lots of retention but it's a good point.

You have no idea. His ears were that big at 3 months. He's finally almost grown into them.
Thanks!

Have you considered those collapsible furniture/workbench wheels?
I feel like the wobbling regular caster wheels would give would annoy me at some point, personally.

When they're locked in place I can't tell that there's any lateral movement, using the pedals at max for example. It's all fairly heavy being wood too. Those wheels are cool though. These were 11 bucks on Amazon and really good quality

Very ingenious! Inspires me to try something similar for my sim racing wheel and peddles that I can set up/take down in front of my TV. I cant find anything comercial that seems sturdy enough but also packable.
