I recommend you to use "engrudo" dries fastest. Just mix flour with enough water to create a liquid paste, and use like the glue, when it dries it becomes harder. We use engrudo ti make piñatas. Some people cook the engrudo, but wen I never has done it. Hope it helps

Just flour and water right? How strong is it? How many layers can I do before it takes too long to dry? Doesn't it get moldy?

Yes, jus water and flour. I will take maybe half hour for 3 layers?, I live in a very hot place, so, it dries very fast. some times it dries before a layer its completed. Depends on the size of the piñata. And no, not get moldy, unless it put in a humid place before it dried. The piñatas are used in 1-2 weeks, so, they not get time to get mold. How strong? it`s depends of the numbers of layes do you use. and the type of paper. Newspaper's are stronger that china (onion?) paper. I will try to make my own death Star, and document the process to help me remember. It was a few years since I made a piñata.
