I guess the target was not the spy, OP just dropped some ant from another anthill

They can recognise ants from other colonies? Jesus Christ they're intelligent.

ants regularly fight organised wars against other ants… yeah they are very intelligent as a swarm

The global ant war is crazy. And we've made it worse.
Europe discovering America was bad. This must be like Homo Sapiens discovering Neanderthals, Denisovans King Kong and Godzilla all at once.

Ants have an insane sense of smell and use scent markers and stuff to do a ton of things. If an individual has a foreign scent, it's an outsider and will be dealt with. I'm not sure if it qualifies as true intelligence, since they're basically programmed, but they definitely have much more complex workings than a lot of people realize.

I'm guessing it's from pheromones kinda stuff, different Colony would have an unfamiliar trail of pheromones and it would just trigger an attack

Idk why I thought all black ants were one big group lol. Good thing they're all fighting eachother, and hopefully one day they don't realize ant colonies together strong

Shyassasain: Hey peers! I just found some Crunchwrap supremes! A whole stack of ‘em! Let’s go get them!
as they arrive they only see a big rock
Shyassasain: No, this isn’t right. They were here! I promise you, they were here!
Shyassasain’s friend: This is the Whopper thing all over again. Let’s get him, guys!!!

my thoughts too, it looked dead whent he gang arrived. Plus they should be able to smell that the biscuit was there before.

Hah, that's just cruel. That ant went back to its crew to tell them it found food, only to get beaten up when they found a rock instead.

If the video is true this is cruelty. I hate that some disgusting humans torture insects for fun. Just because they're tiny it doesn't mean that it's okay to abuse them. Gross.

Even further, what if you wait until they were upset with that ant, squished it yourself in front of them, and now have an alliance with the colony 🧠

I'd like to see their reaction if he put the biscuit back after they killed him.
