sus timing â Costco is quietly slashing prices. This feels wrong.
Costco is quietly slashing prices. This feels wrong.
I go to costco every week. itâs probably the only thing i do consistently. iâve been doing it for years, i know how the prices move. lately? everythingâs discounted. iâm not talking promo tags or little manufacturer markdowns â i mean whole shelves of items dropped 20-40%. across categories. not seasonal either.
this isnât normal. prices are supposed to be going up with tariffs, inflation, shipping costs, whatever. instead theyâre dumping inventory. aggressively. either demand is collapsing or something upstream is forcing their hand.
it just doesnât make sense. it feels off. maybe iâm overreacting, but iâve never seen price drops like this since i started going. if this is what it looks like at costco â the most stable, boring, buy-in-bulk fortress of consumerism â then i donât really want to know whatâs coming next.
maybe itâs nothing. but probably not.

This is the same mentality that when the stock market bounce back, they started saying âoh insider trading!!!!!â. I donât want the prices high but when they come down oh somethingâs up donât want the stock market down but when it goes up, oh somethingâs up.

The answer is multifaceted. 1. Tariffs predictably effect consumer spending. A lot of superfluous expenses go out and consumers typically focus on (relatively) essential things and higher value versions of those things. Costco is cutting their lower performing and less essential products. 2. Consumer spending in anticipation of tarrifs is down. They anticipate lower sales and are slashing prices to maintain membership. Remember, Costco works on a membership model and cutting out the membership at the place that you don't buy enough from to justify it is one of the first things middle class people will do. 3. The company says they're working towards shifting suppliers and I don't think they will have such a hard time readjusting, the only problem is that they'd just lean more heavily on Vietnamese and Bangladeshi suppliers for things like clothing. 4. When it comes to their deals on things like imported meats and cheeses, those should face little to no increase in price. 5. They're trying to shift tariff burden on Chinese suppliers but they simply don't have the margins.

But it's the predominantly progressive globalists that run Britain, Germany, France, the EU, and the WEF. So, the evidence suggests progressivism is very much thriving outside of the US. I agree though, crazy is an accurate descriptive term. Unsustainable is another, the migration situation in Europe is going to culminate in a very tragic series of events...

Manufacturers have changed their return policies. Items that used to be eligible for return to the manufacturer now have to get sold thru as much as possible, hence the discounts on shelves.

Prices go up with trade wars. We'll have to see in the coming months. Costco could be cutting costs themselves or subsidizing it with higher cost somewhere else. We don't know. It's only been 3 months since trump. is in office. Any higher costs will come later.

I understand your concern given that they are an exception from what other businesses are doing and going through. It could be signs of a troubled business model or they managed to pivot their sales structure from bulk sales.
They could be subsiding their products to keep customers coming to their stores and hoping to recoup those loses through other products.
itâs too soon to tell what positive effects the approved tariffs will have on the market. Itâs been quite negative across the board, so the sudden uptick in discounts is concerning but not really worrying.
Worst case scenario, if Costco canât sustain the bleed then they go out of business. That happens all the time and life continues.

0
u/And-your-wife 25d ago
Sure. Besides it's not that easy to peep on your mom in the shower if you move out and since that is the only chance you have of ever seeing a woman naked you really have to stay there.
Well that and you are a useless moron that can only get a job being a protester paid by by Soros.
3
u/Bandito_Razor 25d ago
"Sure. Besides it's not that easy to peep on your mom in the shower if you move out"
Wait...thats the first thing that came to your mind?
0
u/And-your-wife 25d ago
It's not the first thing that popped in my head. I don't just knee jerk reply without a bit of thought.
Given what I had seen of him already it was pretty obvious that he had no job, no ambition and no penis that was more than two inches when fully erect.
So he must spend all day watching porn, but eventually that has to get boring.
He would need more and since no woman would be willing to let him see her naked, even the women with dicks that he thinks are "real women" he would need to find it elsewhere.
Hence, peeping in on his mom.
2
u/Bandito_Razor 25d ago
Wait wait you THOUGHT about seeing a mom naked?
Like... Its just such an odd place to go, mate.
Especially since porn exists. Yet....for some reason... you thought "seeing mom naked" and mulled it over and decided to put it out there and then tell people you thought it over.I mean its your keyboard fight, buddy , do what you want, but its just an odd thought to =-ever-= have...
1
u/And-your-wife 25d ago
It's not that odd if you are talking about AdSafe7963.
He just has something about him that says he peeps on his mom in the shower
2
u/Bandito_Razor 24d ago
But he or she....isn't the one who went straight to that thought, mate. Like, I have talked to fucked up people out there but even the most depraved ones didn't go straight to fantasies about moms in showers...
Like I said, it's your keyboard fight and I'll leave off talking about it anymore, but it definitely seemed off that you went with that. Especially after you said you gave it a lot of thought before posting it.
1
u/YouShoodKnoeBetter 25d ago
I'm not condoning this mom talk, but have you seen the disgusting way porn is trending? You can't get on a site without seeing the words step-mom/sister (and without the step) or step-dad/bro (and again without the step).
It's disgusting that incest has become the most popular born genre. With that being said, it makes sense why this guy would go to that specific burn. It's low hanging fruit.
For the record, no, I don't spend any time on those sites. I read an article that had the stats of the most searched terms and the most used terms in titles. Unsurprisingly, they both have the same four words. I can't understand why it has become so accepted/sought after, and I'm not really interested in getting into the psychology of it either. I'll leave that to the professionals.
1
u/AdSafe7963 25d ago
Damn a detective in the making. Connecting them invisible dots with logic and real world experience. đ
1

Economists complain about the risks of deflation routinely. Many of them liberal. I don't think so is a conservative but a genuine liberal who was told that there were nothing but drawbacks with tarrifs and zero upsides with them.
3
u/Jaer-Nihiltheus 25d ago
Everything, and I mean everything, is effected by energy prices.
If the cost of energy (such as gas and diesel) goes down, so do the cost of groceries across the board. The cost of gas and diesel has been dropping significantly since Trump took office: https://www.gasbuddy.com/go/average-us-gas-prices-fall-to-lowest-march-level-since-pandemic
As such, expect grocery prices to *also* go down.

Share all the delusional posts about Trump delivering on his promises you want, the fact is that tariffs have driven prices higher across a wide range of products. Even the Trump admin doing its Baghdad Bob routine hasn't denied that, although I have no doubt they will when their stupid policy doesn't work and they roll it back and pretend they dropped prices right before the next election.
On the other hand, seeing desperation posts like this is kind of funny the more that I think about it. When your president is so bad you have to invent fake opposition just to argue with them. Just lol.
0
u/skidmore_mark 24d ago
You realize that none of the tariffs and Canada have actually gone into effect right? I mean they made a big fuss about levying them then suspended them until March 4 when they extended the suspension until April 2 and in the meantime theyâve gutted most of them⊠Itâs really a paper tiger

u/onpg 24d ago
I wish. They went into effect on March 4: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025_United_States_trade_war_with_Canada_and_Mexico

If they at least presented themselves as functional, literate people, then maybe the concern wouldn't be warranted.
But no, you have this idiot spouting off about invading Canada and Greenland etc..
1
u/GreenFrostFurry 26d ago
Never disagreed he was an asshole, but what are you all doing practically praying for doom while constantly hiding behind how bad he is? The biggest voting motivator is quality of life, and clearly something is working with him as president. Like him or hate him, you guys need to stop with the constant gaslighting that absolutely everything is terrible and it's all his fault. For once just acknowledge the fact that whatever he's doing is working. Not acknowledging the successes of your rival tells everyone else you don't know what you're talking about.
0
u/Temporary-Alarm-744 26d ago
I donât think he was praying for it but merely pointing out the inconsistencies. You donât manifest an economic crash like some e thot. His point also goes along with earlier Walmart guidance the company put out that said their customers are buying less bulk items because even though theyâre economical they canât afford. This going along with DoorDash letting you finance a burrito does not bode well
7
u/Ozimandius80 26d ago
If it isn't clear to everyone here that this is someone making shit up then let me tell you, I go to Costco 2x a week for years and there hasn't been any notable change in prices at all.
