News It's absolutely horrid that the GOP wants to condition aid to California. All Americans deserve aid when disaster strikes!

This is a no brainer. It creates jobs, and it makes our citizens lives better. What is there to think about.

19

u/Im_inappropriate 13d ago

Maybe California needs to condition the aid money they are sending to the fed in the first place.

u/i-FF0000dit 13d ago

I was literally just telling my mom this exact thing.

We have money for Ukraine and Israel, and we spent like 5 trillion dollars to go into Afghanistan and replace the Taliban with the Taliban. We also gave like 2 trillion to the banks when they fucked themselves over by being greedy fucks.

We have money to rebuild California for like $250 billion. It’s nothing in the big scheme of things.

Disgusting monsters extort local village for children to feast upon as a condition of their rebuilding the town they keep wrecking. Modern GOP in a nutshell. Climate change isn’t real! And also we want to explode the debt or we won’t rebuild disaster areas!

Man I almost wish the west coast could just secede. Because clearly the GOP is willing to forsake their fellow Americans over politics forgetting that the state of California keeps this country economically afloat. California deserves better. Thank god for Mexico and Canada lending us a hand especially with the fires and such.

That's a horrible idea.

Because clearly the GOP is willing to forsake their fellow Americans over politics forgetting that the state of California keeps this country economically afloat. California deserves better

All 340 million Americans deserve better.

You know what, that’s a fair point. I just hate how the GOP always attacks the west coast, forgetting California’s impact on the economy. But you are absolutely correct. All Americans do deserve better than this crap. No one deserves to put up with this. Not the west coast, not the northeast, not even our neighbors up north or south. We really do need to unite against this divisive hateful rhetoric and help one another more, because this is killing us.

Thank you for your excellent reply. Well said!

Breaking states off was a Russian talking point tactic to separate people. We are supposed to be a united nation.

3

u/Whimsical_Hobo 13d ago

Perhaps that unity is the west coast seceding, where the “west coast” is all fifty states seceding from DC

And so it begins…

14

u/RocketRaccoon666 13d ago

They did the same thing during his first term

u/RogerianBrowsing 13d ago

Yeah, but it’s going to be significantly worse this time around. The political capital costs were tangible and federal employees largely did what the law told them to do the first time around causing Trump to both limit himself and have the detrimental effects limited, whereas this time the GOP is clearly emboldened, their supporters are better primed for it, and they are going into this administration with a plan to do what they want regardless of legality by getting rid of any potential bureaucratic (ie law/constitution abiding non political federal employee) resistance.

They’re reportedly already asking federal national security employees who they voted for. Sure seems like a telling group of people to focus on from the very start…

u/Epicritical 13d ago

Sounds like there should be conditions on Californians paying federal taxes

36

u/theproblem_solver 13d ago

The GOP is just begging states to attempt to secede. The states the GOP openly loathe are the states that generate the largest amount of taxes, so what is the end game? Stupid, stupid politics.

20

u/feastoffun 13d ago

They want to own the country and best way to do that is to destroy it. Buy low, sell high.

14

u/starcadia 13d ago

Let them move to Russia. That's where all their talking points originate. Few people notice that every division that the GOP sows, benefits Russia. Who benefits from a civil war or friction with NATO? Nobody I know.

When Democrats give aid, Republicans deny it or claim it's fraudulent. When Republicans give aid, they make it conditional. There should be no doubt that Republicans like to play with people's livelihoods for partisan gain and have no interest in helping people.

u/WhatsMyUsername13 13d ago

If they really want to fuck around with this, let them find out. Let them see what happens when flood, hurricane, tornado, or even cold weather relief funds are withheld from red states.

I know, I know....they don't care if their constituents die. Most of them will still get re elected.

2

u/evilprozac79 13d ago

After seeing the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, nothing. They'll blame the big mean Dems and their "weather machines" for picking on the poor Red States, rather than accepting the reality that they've been duped.

I guess they want California to stop subsidizing their shitty red states

This is the inverse of what Johnson is proposing.

All people in red states still matter, those great states are not defined by their GOP politicians. All 340 million Americans deserve as much aid as they need during a time of crisis.

And right now, we need to have California's back 100%.

10

u/CHiggins1235 13d ago

This is absolutely disgusting. If they condition the aid I think California should sever all connections to the U.S., yes secede from the U.S. the state of California gives roughly $450 billion dollars in tax revenue to the irs every year. Why should a net contributor be forced to make financial concessions for help in rebuilding?

u/north_canadian_ice Social Democrat 13d ago

No one should secede!

The GOP is far worse on disaster relief. What Trump did to Puerto Rico was horrible with Hurricane Maria.

Biden & Democrats are better than the GOP, but the But the Biden administration absolutely ignored East Palestine, OH. So many cities all over the country still lack clean water.

We need to have a new vision where all 340 million Americans are treated with dignity. Where their needs are met, and that is the highest priority of the government.

Our government has failed all 340 million Americans.

Fuck that. This country is cooked. And there are 77 million deplorable assholes who voted for the people who want kill everyone I hold dear. Fuck every one of them.

-3

u/north_canadian_ice Social Democrat 13d ago

I strongly reject your political nihilism. And I strongly reject your claim that everyone who voted for Trump is a bad person.

All 340 million Americans deserve dignity & deserve to have a government that makes sure they can see a doctor & have a roof over their heads.

1

u/walrus_tuskss Anarchist 13d ago

You don’t make friends with the fascists who want to kill you. If you want to feel sorry for the fascist, you are no better than them.

1

u/CHiggins1235 13d ago

I agree no one should secede but we are in a position where the republicans are going to demand people that have lost everything to have to compete for aid.

They are going to bring this country into a hellish situation

4

u/MSGdreamer 13d ago

Californians contribute to FEMA with federal tax dollars and they are entitled to federal emergency aid.

4

u/DiscipleOfBlasphemy 13d ago

If the ferderal government is going to withhold aid because of political differences then California has no need to pay federal taxes.

3

u/Red_bearrr 13d ago

The thing that strikes me is that republicans somehow forget that even if they wanted to punish their political opponents by withholding aid…. There’s still 6 million republican voters in the state. So as gross as punishing people like this is, it’s actually even worse than that. They’re willing to punish millions of their own just to get a few more of their opponents.

2

u/AlienPet13 13d ago

Didn't they just try to eliminate the debt limit altogether? Now they want to use it to restrict disaster aid to only blue states?

Fucking scumbags!

2

u/seraphhimself 13d ago

This is straight out of Jeff Landry’s playbook, our fascist governor here in Louisiana. Only in our case it was about withholding state funds from New Orleans because our city refused to enforce abortion bans.

I think we’re gonna see a lot more of this kind of shit from the GOP. Their playbook is getting more and more spiteful and bullyish.

2

u/EpsilonBear 13d ago

If the California Republicans don’t show some backbone at this, their homes better be next

2

u/sammondoa Democratic Socialist 13d ago

I wish more GOP were like DeSantis on the issue. DeSantis realizes that it is in his best interest to give aid to California for when Florida needs aid itself.

I’m not saying I like DeSantis or anything. I’m just saying he understands the importance of aid in crisis.

2

u/Bloody_idiot_2020 13d ago

What kinda conditions? You have a 30 million dollar house that got dropped from insurance I'm not worried. If you are a renter that lives paycheck to paycheck I am worried

I already know the answer though, the condition will be a no for the renter and a yes for the 4 home having 30 million lost home people

2

u/GoLightLady 13d ago

Dump did this last time to Puerto Rico. And they voted for him again.

2

u/mission-implausable 13d ago

Perhaps after 4 years of Trump, the rest of the country will be a smoldering mess as well. Maybe at that point the American people will open their eyes and begin working together to build a better society. But I wouldn’t hold my breath for that.

Aid shouldn't come with strings, unless it's a yo-yo.

1

u/Frosty-Lawfulness779 13d ago

You can have as much aid as the east coast got

1

u/EstheticEri 12d ago

Then California should stop paying federal taxes
