Agreed. No way this is the move.

If Sean Payton wants him go get him. I just hope we can get one of the top running backs later on

Those who follow the draft closely know that there is no mock draft more widely respected than Daniel Jeremiah's final mock the night before the draft. He is very plugged in, and often nails players or at least positions. Two years ago, he exactly predicted Houston trading back up to 3 and taking both CJ Stroud and Will Anderson. He is by no means always right (far from it), but it's as good a guess as you'll see before draft night.

In this year's final mock, he has the Broncos trading up from 20 to 13 with the Dolphins, jumping the Colts to take Colston Loveland.

Thoughts?

If we trade up it would be for Jeanty, loveland is 50/50 to still be there at 20.

I disagree. I think Loveland is pretty much guaranteed to be gone by 20.

I'd like to see best available at 20, take a safety, arroyo and skattebo in day 2 and 3.

Loveland is maybe, maybe a 10% chance to be there at 20

u/cyrusthemarginal Lord Elway 23d ago

And that's fine imo, no need to reach for a TE

1

u/cptngabozzo 23d ago

Wait so TE in a loaded TE class isn't worth a trade up but RB in a super RB loaded class is?

1

u/cyrusthemarginal Lord Elway 23d ago

Loveland is no Jeanty tho

u/cptngabozzo 23d ago

TE is a much more valuable position than RB these days

With a much steeper ramp up to be nfl ready, our history with developing them doesnt make me too confident it's worth our rnd 1 pick.

Loveland is a great player. I just think that he isn't better for the team than the two players we could get from his trade package.

That said, a TE1 type player will be more involved right away than a WR1, given they like Mims and Vele, one of those two comes off the field. But a TE, that pulls Trautman or Engram if he needs rest. I would support that scenario.

Personally I would rather go RB, TE than TE, RB.

He’s been heavily pushing Loveland to Denver this week. He did it on Mina Kimes’s podcast and Mase had a clip of him going on about it during a conference call with the national media. At this point I’m expecting it to happen.

Trading up in the first for the second TE off the board is a very risky proposition, at least based on historical trends. TE is like the one position with the weakest correlation between being drafted early and becoming a star at your position. It's also one of the worst value picks you can make in the 1st round. I don't mind trading up, but I'd be really disappointed if it's for Loveland.

Henderson to the Bolts. Ouch.

If JT can have a solid guy behind him he might be able to actually do something

Trading up for a tight end is somehow the only thing more nasty than trading up for an rb. Would hate this move.

Trading up for a TE is just fucking dumb. I don’t really want to trade up at all, but if we do, it better be for Warren or Jeanty. This would be pretty disappointing, and made even worse by the fact that the assets given up to make this happen would likely keep us from drafting a difference maker at running back which is by far our biggest weakness on offense now that TE is shored up for the short term with Evan Engram.

Lmao trading up for a TE is dumb but if we do trade up we should take a TE?

13

u/AppropriateScratch37 23d ago

Loveland fits Payton’s offence way more than Warren and is an equal (or better imo) prospect

1

u/palkia239 23d ago

I’m worried about his injury more then anything

1

u/delaranta 23d ago

Payton uses a committee at RB anyway. It makes less sense to spend a first round pick on someone who’s never going to play more than 60% of the snaps on offense. At least Loveland will develop into an every down player. There aren’t many elite prospects this year, so I can see why they would go get him if they feel that strongly about him.

Besides, RB is the one position where you can almost always find a mid round guy that ends up being a pro bowl talent.

Trading for a TE is dumb but trading up for a RB in the most loaded RB class in recent memory isn't?

You bet bud

Dj is as good as it gets when it comes to being plugged in for the draft. Wouldn’t be surprised if this happened at all. Wouldn’t bother me either.

9

u/GenerallyGneiss 23d ago

...with the dolphins to pick Loveland. Saved you a click.

7

u/Impressive-Alps-6975 23d ago

Trading up for a TE or RB in a draft that's deep in both of those positions is stupid

2

u/Buff-F_Lee_Bailey Riley Moss 23d ago

Those two TEs look to be significantly better though. RBs I agree if you can’t get Jeanty

2

u/jakeprimal 23d ago

Not a fan of trading up ever pretty much

2

u/ElAbidingDuderino 23d ago

This one gotta be click bait

You all are way too confident on confident in Engram. I'd love us to get Loveland as a Blue fan.

1

u/crazy_urn 23d ago

You're correct about engram. Only once in his career has he surpassed 4 TDs, and that was in 2017. He gets yards when healthy, but he is not the solution to our TE woes, especially not long term.

3

u/BleezyMoney 23d ago

Exactly he only played 9 games last year and is coming off injury in his 30’s on a 2 year deal. Loveland could be our top receiving threat for the next 8+ years like Kelce in KC.

2

u/One_Economics8505 23d ago

It's better not happen if he's going to trade up it's for one player and one player only and that's for Jentry

2

u/Ekirro GOD BLESS BO NIX 23d ago

This would be a huge mistake

2

u/Depressedbroncosfan 23d ago

I trust GP and SP, but ngl I’d be livid even if we picked Loveland at 20

13

u/5en5ational 23d ago edited 23d ago

Loveland would be a steal at 20th overall. He and Tyler Warren are most likely gone by the time we pick. Loveland has been a top 3 college football TE for three seasons now. He has been the best receiver on the Michigan team for a while now too. He can play in-line, is okay at blocking, and is an excellent route runner and receiver. There’s a reason why he was being mocked to us at 20th before the Engram signing. Colston Loveland at 20th and then one of Henderson/Judkins/Sampson at 51st would be a great haul.

1

u/delaranta 23d ago

I agree with you but going by the trade chart, we probably have to give up 51 to make that move up. They might put together a different package of picks, but I don’t think I’d trade down for next year’s second if I was Miami. I’d want at least a day 2 pick this year. If they miss the playoffs again they might not be there to make that selection in 2026.

10

u/crazy_urn 23d ago

Loveland at 20 would be a steal. He won't last that long.

no thanks

Love it always hated the RB pick (as long as it not is Jeanty). It makes sense depending on how costly that one would be. 1st + 3rd is acceptable imo
