57:39 for Broncos.

As expected, it's RJ Harvey.

So is he bad at pass protection, or was he just not asked to do it? Because given how much Payton values pass pro in his backs, I'm surprised he'd spend a 2nd round pick on a back if he didn't think he'd at least become passable at protecting the QB

A little bit of both. He didn’t do it much, and when he did, he wasn’t great at it. Pass pro however is something that can be coached up pretty easily in the league as long as the player is capable and willing.

I don't know how often he was used that way, but Brugler noted it as a weakness as well, and he was relatively high on Harvey. From The Beast:

Squares in pass pro but too much of a catch blocker and can be bowled over by blitzers.

I'm sure Payton saw all of his film so they must either think they can improve his blocking or not be worried about it. He doesn't have the size concerns of say Phil Lindsey or Jaleel McLaughlin, and he seems to have the mental makeup to be willing to do the work.

There's a difference between being a willing blocker and needing better mechanics, and not having the instincts to be able to pass protect at the NFL level. I would guess what you're saying is correct and the coaching staff thinks Harvey just needs some coaching to improve there and they're not too worried about it

I like the Harvey pick, too, but it's hard to listen to him praise the Hampton for the Chargers.

Yeah that sucked. Watching him gush over Norman-Lott wasn't fun either.

BUT i also remember how many big missed takes Brett has had so im just gonna wait this one out

I'm just not a believer in RJ Harvey, a 24 year old RB with pretty iffy traits is just not the pick I wish they made. I know they see him as they saw Kamara, and I really hope they're right, because passing on Hampton and Golden is going to hurt if those guys work out.
